  1. Hi Greg, great job, many thanks. This will be of great help. Looking forwrd to try the coming releases. Al
  2. What is the meaning of bids after 1♦ 1♠ 2NT is a matter of pdship agreement. This depends on the style of answers to 1♦ too. This what I suggest play: 3♣ =CBS asking for 3♠ or 4♥ 3♦ = forcing showing ♦ support. THis bid must be forcing there is no hand thinkable, which answers 1♠ and now wants to play 3♦ 3♥ =5♠4♥ invitation 3♠=6♠ invitation 3NT = to play 4♦ = minorwood
  3. Great argument. Exactly my point. Many thanks for this post. I can't say it so precise because my English is too bad :( Many thanks Al
  4. agree 100% to every argument. Slam is sooooo far with these bad trumps and partner's honors under the gun. East must have values outside ♥ (♠k or ♦A or ♣KQfor his vulnerable double. You may miss a slam in 1% of situations you make this bid, but you'll gain in many situations were opponents get in trouble after this preempt. Cheers Al
  5. Hi Fred and all, The handviewer seems ideal for blogging and any web-oriented communication. I experimented a bit and found it very suitable for some purposes: Link to my blog "Al's bridgesite" I found it a problem to show the play of cards in an incomplete hand. I solved to make East declarer to give South the lead. But that is not really satisfying. Is there another way to set "who is on play" in an incomplete deal? I like the handviewer very much for posting in a blog or on my website, but I won't miss lin-files for offline teaching lessons. I like to comment bidding and play using the nt|| at||and sb|| tags. I hope BBO will provide the users with the NetBridgeVu.exe furthermore. Many thanks to Fred for providing us with all these great toys and tools. Al
  6. We missed a nice slam in this hand and I have no idea how to bid it. Maybe it is a matter of the system (Roman 2♦, big ♣, answers to strong jump-shift) EDIT 11/18: Sorry this last sentence was bad verbalized. We play 2/1. I wanted to say: "Maybe some other system (Roman 2♦, big ♣, artificial answers to strong jump-shift) had done better. " [hv=d=s&v=n&s=skj63h4dakt6caq87]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] You open 1♦ and after partners expected 1♥ your jump to 2♠ shows 17+HCP and not a balanced hand. Partner's second bid is 3♣ 4th suit forcing (game forcing and asking for ♣-stopper) you bid the normal 3NT, LHO leads ♣6 and dummy goes down and you realize that you missed a nice 6♣ slam, which only depends on a trump 3-2 distribution: [hv=d=s&v=n&n=sq85hakq9d85ck942&s=skj63h4dakt6caq87]133|200|Scoring: IMP The bidding went: SOUTH NORTH 1♦ 1♥ 2♠ 3♣ 3NT pass [/hv] Now my question are: 1) Is South's bidding ok? 2) Would you prefer 1♠ instead of 2♠? 3) Would you prefer 4♣ instead of 3NT? 4) Is North's bidding ok? 5) Facing a partner who showed ♦, ♠ and a♣-stopper and therefore very probably shortness in ♥. So looking at wasted values in ♥ should he bid 4♣ instead of the final pass? 6) If South decides to bid 4♣ instead of 3NT, what is the logical continuation now? 7) How do you think you and your favourite partner would bid this hand? 8) Is there need for artificial answers to a the strong jump shift? Is 3♣ in the above sequence 4sf?? I'm looking forward to your answers. Thanks Al
  7. Hi all we play against strong 1♣ or 2♣ opening a convention which is aclled in Germany TIMBUKTU. bid of a suit after 1!C (strong) shows either a 1-suiter above the suit bid or a 2-suiter with the 2 reamining suits: 1♣ 1♦ shows either ♥-onsesuiter or a black 2-suiter 1♣ 1♥ shows a ♠-onesuiter or a minor 2-suiter etc. Does anyone know this convention? What is it called in US or other countries? Can anyone me provide with a link for detailed description Many thanks in advance Al
  8. Hi Fred, two questions: 1) I wanted to create a "teaching table", but didn't found the option. Is this one of the omitted features? 2) In future, when all people use the "browser version" is there a possibility to to view linfile movies offline on my PC? In other words do you plan to distribute the NetBridgeView.exe furthermore? Regards Al
  9. Agree 100%, but how to tell a pickup in Indy??? :D Al

We lost 9 IMPs while 8 tables out of 16 played 4♥ sometimes doubled. From 16 Souths bid 2♥ 9 times, 3♥ 2 times and 4h 5 times. My questions are: 1) What do you think is the best first bid for South? 2) Should North bid NT after p p 1♠ 2♥ p ??? 3) How do you share the blame between North and South for not reaching 4♥? Al

  13. After a club lead, you must unblock ♠A, go to table with a ♣, (say) lose the ♠ ruffing finesse to West, who now opens the ♥ suit. To enjoy your discard on ♠J, you need the ♣s to be 3-3 to get there. Al
  14. [hv=d=s&v=n&n=sqj754hj9dt7cakq3&s=saha82dkqj642c762]133|200|Scoring: IMP West North East South - - - 1♦ Pass 1♠ Pass 3♦ Pass 5♦ Pass Pass Pass [/hv] Hi all, this is an example for intermediates, how to plan their declarerplay. The deal came up in a Rays-ladder match. One table was down 1 in 3NT (after very bad declarer play). At the other table declarer finally found the right line in 5♦. I personally dislike the 3♦ bid. 14 HCP is not enough for this jump imho. (Though nice suit and good controls; 3QT) You count your losers (as usual in a suit-contract) and see you have: 1 sure loser in ♦ and 2 possible losers in ♥ losers. At first glance you see 3 possibilities to get rid of at least one of the ♥ 1) ♣s maybe distributed 3-3. 2) ♠s can be established in time 3) Dummy has ruffing potential There is a 4. possibility though. 1) What are the odds to win 3NT after 1♦ 1♠ 2♦ 3♣ 3NT and the automatic heart lead? 2) How do you plan 5♦ after after ♠ ♥ ♦ or ♣ lead. Does it make a difference, if ♦A is led first? 3) What are your odds to win 5♦ with each of the leads? 4) What is the 4th possible line of play? (for more advanced players) Enjoy Al
  15. 3♥ is the "normal" bid, BUT 1) If you show opps, that you have a good fit, they'll know, that the have a fit too and the 3♠ will be automatic. 2) So I consider some other destructive measures: ---- pass to hide our fit ---- psychic 2NT ---- psychic 2♠ 3) The only bid which I don't think about is 2♥ :) Al

The J is ambigous. It maybe from Jx, or J10x, so with J108x the 8 seems the better card. It is the right card showing length AND attitude 2) If Declarer starts playing ♦, iI would discard ♣J and ♣10 after I had signalled with the 8. Thereafter partner cannot go wrong. 3) But what if declarer plays ♠K at trick2 and continues with ♠? Can North imagine, that the ♣cs are there to cash?? Will a "Smith-Peter" in ♠ from South help or is the the 8 on the K just a length-signal? Would be interested if someone had a logical system to solve this problem. Thks Al
  17. 1) leads are 4th normal priority is attitude 2) standard carding high/low 3) Declarer follows with ♣6

He thought the 4♦ bid as splinter. I thought it showed a big red 2-suiter. 1) What do you thinks is 4♦? 2) How do you distribute the blame? 3) Would 4♣ instead of 4♦ have been RKCB? (we play 4!C as RKCB in any forcing situation, where trumps are agreed explicitly or implicitly) Many thanks for your answers Al

  21. Hi all does anyone know a brief summary of aspects of defensive signals in the www? Thanks in advance Al
  22. There is no lead if there is no auction. Is a pure guess and if someone tells you something else, he is result-merchandising. Al
  23. Hi Helene, many thanks for this greeting. Al
