Worst Mis-communications

Interesting hand. I would probably bid stayman and treat this hand as a 5-4 if my partner doesn't show a major, or transfer to spades and bid 4♥ (showing 5-5 in our system).

West has 5 of them and South is nearly garunteed to have a void based on his bidding. And please keep in mind that these aren't my bids. I could make it 1♠ if I adjust the suits :D [hv=pc=n&s=sqt62hkj843dkq83c&n=skj85h52d7ckqjt96&d=w&v=b&b=4&a=1cppdpprp1dpp1hppdpp1sppp]266|200[/hv] :P

West leads a trump and you win with the queen while east follows with the 4. You lead the king of spades to West's ace and he returns a spade, which you ruff in dummy. You lead a low trump from dummy and east shows out. What do you do now? And yes, east redoubled with a singleton diamond. This is a club game. -_-

5-level decision, from your partner..
Lord Molyb replied to Ant590's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
Would prefer 4NT from partner to show the minors. Also I'd rather opps not pre-empt. Otherwise the bidding is fine. -
Is there a bidding system out there that uses opening passes to show an opening hand, and any non-pass opening shows less than an opening bid? Is this sort of system not allowed? Or are there major disadvantages that I'm missing?
-
What if your partner had ♠x ♥KQxx ♦KQxx ♣AQJ10? (or anything similar) You can make 5 of either minor quite easily but they will go down only one in 3♠. Heck, if either minor breaks badly, you might still make 5 of either minor, but they'll make 3♠X!
-
Torn between 4♠, 4NT, and 4♦/4♣. In the end, I pick 4♦.
-
You're going to play at the 4 level in a 5-2 fit with 30+ combined points? :o
-
If you start with 2NT he bids 4♣.

Partner leaps to 3♥ over my 1♠ which I forget is a western cue-bid (asks for stopper). After thinking for some time, I decide it must indicate GF values and spades, so I bid 3♠ to show above minimum. He bids 4♣ as a signoff, which I interpret as a cue-bid, but I have no non-spade controls so I bid 4♠. Then he bids 5♣ which I still thought was a cue-bid, so I cue-bid my second round heart control. Now that partner knows I have a stopper, he signs off in 5NT. Except.. I thought it was Grand Slam Forcing. So I lept to 7♠, showing AK. Instant double from my LHO, down 6 for 1700. Any stories anyone wants to share? :D
-
Whoops, didn't see that. In that case I'd probably sacrifice in clubs if they get to game.
-
Pass might get the opponents into a -1100 scenario, redouble would probably show club support, 2 diamonds seems logical, 2 spades seems logical, 3 diamonds is not necessary, 3 spades is logical, 4 spades shows a weaker hand, 6 diamonds is insane, 6 spades risks missing 7. I would probably start with 2 diamonds, and then rebid my spades. My partner probably has ♠x ♥AKxx ♦xx ♣KQJxxx or something similar. In this case it would seem that 6♣ is the best spot, but I'm not sure how I would get there...
-
I don't want to pre-empt my opponents too much, my partner probably has something like ♠KQxx ♥Axx ♦AQJx ♣xx and we might be able to catch a decent penalty if they bid 3♦ or 3♠, but we'll still make 3♣. Thus, I bid 2NT intending to pass 3♣.

Scrambling 2NT versus Lebensohl
Lord Molyb replied to 32519's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
what, someone didn't pick apples. -_- ANYWAY.. I would use scrambling 2NT whenever when it isn't lebensohl, over a weak 2 takeout double, or opposite of a reverse. -
finally a hand that I might open, preempt or pass
Lord Molyb replied to Fluffy's topic in Interesting Bridge Hands
I would open 1♣ in first/second seat. But my partner hates when I pre-empt on more than 9 points, so I'm probably in the minority here. -
[hv=pc=n&s=sk95hajdkqj74caqt&d=n&v=0&b=1&a=2d(Flannery)p]133|200[/hv] What's your plan? Flannery is 4-5 in majors with 11-15, to clarify

That is good jLogic you are showing. Wouldn't a 1♠ bid over 1♥ show 5?

Inverted Minor Raises Interference
Lord Molyb replied to Lord Molyb's topic in Interesting Bridge Hands
There is an "other" option :D Would 3♠ show a control in spades or just extra values? -
My partner could have anything from ♠Axx ♥ - ♦ AQxxxx ♣AKxx to ♠ Kx ♥ - ♦ AQJxxx ♣ Axxxx. (And that's a stretch, even for a beginner...) Therefore, I will settle for 6 clubs, although I suspect I could make 7.
-
Inverted minor raises give me a headache. -_- [hv=pc=n&n=shk854dakq4ck8642&d=n&v=n&b=5&a=1cp2c(Inverted%20Minor%20Raise)2s]133|200[/hv] 2 clubs promises 10+ points, 5+ clubs, and no four card major.

Competing Auction, the Unusual 2NT
Lord Molyb replied to Lord Molyb's topic in Interesting Bridge Hands
Your partner had ♠QJ ♥AQ10xxxxx ♦ - ♣ Axx and your LHO had both major suit kings in this hand, so not on a club lead :D -
Your partner is probably 1-6-4-2 or 1-6-5-1. Barring the unlikely event that your partner might have longer hearts than that, I would probably pass and run to hearts if they double for penalties.
