  1. I know the bot thinks that with a good hand that have passed it needs to do some bidding, but this looks strange [hv=url=https://www.bridgebase.com/tools/handviewer.html?bbo=y&lin=pn%7CHuman%2CRobot%2CRobot%2CRobot%7Cst%7C%7Cmd%7C1ST3HAJ32DQ7CAK974%2CSAJ2HTDAKT4CJT652%2CSQ975H876D86532C8%2CSK864HKQ954DJ9CQ3%7Csv%7CB%7Cah%7CBoard%207%7Cmb%7C1C%7Can%7CMinor%20suit%20opening%20--%203%2B%20%21C%3B%2011-21%20HCP%3B%2012-22%20total%20points%7Cmb%7CP%7Cmb%7CP%7Cmb%7C1H%7Can%7CBalancing%20overcall%20--%205%2B%20%21H%3B%209%2B%20total%20points%7Cmb%7C2C%7Can%7C6%2B%20%21C%3B%2015-19%20total%20points%7Cmb%7CP%7Cmb%7CP%7Cmb%7C2S%7Can%7C5%2B%20%21H%3B%204%2B%20%21S%3B%2010%2B%20total%20points%7Cmb%7CP%7Cmb%7C3D%7Can%7C4%2B%20%21D%3B%202-%20%21H%3B%203-%20%21S%3B%2011%2B%20HCP%3B%2012%20total%20points%7Cmb%7CP%7Cmb%7CP%7Cmb%7CP%7Cpc%7CD3%7Cpc%7CD9%7Cpc%7CDQ%7Cpc%7CDK%7Cpc%7CHT%7Cpc%7CH6%7Cpc%7CHK%7Cpc%7CHA%7Cpc%7CD7%7Cpc%7CD4%7Cpc%7CD5%7Cpc%7CDJ%7Cpc%7CS4%7Cpc%7CS3%7Cpc%7CSJ%7Cpc%7CSQ%7Cpc%7CC8%7Cpc%7CC3%7Cpc%7CCK%7Cpc%7CC6%7Cpc%7CCA%7Cpc%7CC5%7Cpc%7CS5%7Cpc%7CCQ%7Cpc%7CST%7Cpc%7CSA%7Cpc%7CS7%7Cpc%7CS8%7Cpc%7CDA%7Cpc%7CD8%7Cpc%7CH9%7Cpc%7CC4%7Cpc%7CDT%7Cpc%7CD6%7Cpc%7CH4%7Cpc%7CC7%7Cpc%7CCT%7Cpc%7CS9%7Cpc%7CH5%7Cpc%7CC9%7Cpc%7CS2%7Cpc%7CH8%7Cpc%7CSK%7Cpc%7CH2%7Cpc%7CS6%7Cpc%7CHJ%7Cpc%7CCJ%7Cpc%7CH7%7Cpc%7CHQ%7Cpc%7CH3%7Cpc%7CC2%7Cpc%7CD2%7C|]399|300[/hv] Personally I would prefer a penalty double of 2♣
  2. Thinking about it, I have never seen GIB use Gerber. I have used it a couple of times, so it understands the convention well

  4. [hv=pc=n&n=saqhqt42dkqj42cq6&d=e&v=e&b=6&a=p2np7n]133|200[/hv] Perhaps it it just a point wrong in the database, and a simulation will probably show that 7N will win most of the time. But when it is possible to check aces with Gerber, then it seems pretty stupid even for a bot to bid 7N with an ace missing
  5. It could be interesting to know the hands that got the simulation.to that result. If you look at the explanation of Norths bid you will notice that 2N does not limit the hand to 2♠ as I think it should
  6. I think that both 3♠ and 4♠ are errors. But as 4♠ is a simulation based on 3♠ typical being rebiddable ♠ we are down to 3♠ is an error 3N in this sequence does not promise anything about ♦ as partner did bid 2N If not 3N, then I think 4♣ is a better descriptive bid https://bridgewinner...278770#c1278770
  7. From the first challenge of today You get this hand[hv=pc=n&s=sahak3dkj72ckqj63]133|100[/hv] And you have to find an opening bid. Opening 1♣ looks OK (That is what the bot would have done), but with a singleton Ace it is OK to treat this as a balanced hand, so opening 2N showing 20-21 could also be fine, I decided to treat it as balanced, but with the many controls I upgraded it to 22, so i opened 2♣ and the bidding continued: [hv=pc=n&d=s&v=b&s=sahak3dkj72ckqj63&a=2cp2d4s]133|200[/hv] I assumed that any double from the strong hand would be penalty, and was not sure if pass was forcing, but decided to pass to see what happened, Note that 4N is defined to 28-30 HCP, just as without the 4♠ bid. I think that cheapest NT should show 22+ balanced with a stopper The North bot did not find any bid, so EW played 4♠, 1 down. Now that is not the interesting part of this deal, but more the replay of the board. My opponent decided to show it as a 20-21 NT, so the bidding was [hv=url=https://www.bridgebase.com/tools/handviewer.html?bbo=y&lin=pn%7CHuman%2CRobot%2CRobot%2CRobot%7Cst%7C%7Cmd%7C1SAHAK3DKJ72CKQJ63%2CS7HJ9852DA654CA54%2CST64HQT764DT8C972%2CSKQJ98532HDQ93CT8%7Csv%7CB%7Cah%7CBoard%207%7Cmb%7C2N%7Can%7CTwo%20NT%20opener.%20Could%20have%205M.%20--%202-5%20%21C%3B%202-5%20%21D%3B%202-5%20%21H%3B%202-5%20%21S%3B%2020-21%20HCP%7Cmb%7CP%7Cmb%7C3D%21%7Can%7CJacoby%20transfer%20--%205%2B%20%21H%7Cmb%7C4S%7Can%7CPreempt%20--%208%2B%20%21S%3B%206-9%20HCP%7Cmb%7C4N%7Can%7CBlackwood%20%28D%29%20--%202-5%20%21C%3B%205-%20%21D%3B%202-5%20%21H%3B%202-5%20%21S%3B%2021-%20HCP%3B%20rebiddable%20%21D%3B%2026%2B%20total%20points%3B%20two%20stops%20in%20%21D%7Cmb%7CP%7Cmb%7C5C%7Can%7CZero%20or%20three%20key%20cards%20--%205%2B%20%21H%7Cmb%7CP%7Cmb%7CP%7Cmb%7CP%7Cpc%7CSK%7Cpc%7CSA%7Cpc%7CS7%7Cpc%7CS4%7Cpc%7CCK%7Cpc%7CCA%7Cpc%7CC2%7Cpc%7CC8%7Cpc%7CH2%7Cpc%7CH7%7Cpc%7CCT%7Cpc%7CHA%7Cpc%7CSQ%7Cpc%7CC6%7Cpc%7CD6%7Cpc%7CS6%7Cpc%7CC3%7Cpc%7CC5%7Cpc%7CC9%7Cpc%7CS9%7Cpc%7CD8%7Cpc%7CD3%7Cpc%7CDJ%7Cpc%7CDA%7Cpc%7CC4%7Cpc%7CC7%7Cpc%7CS8%7Cpc%7CCQ%7Cpc%7CHK%7Cpc%7CH9%7Cpc%7CH4%7Cpc%7CS5%7Cpc%7CCJ%7Cpc%7CD5%7Cpc%7CST%7Cpc%7CSJ%7Cpc%7CH3%7Cpc%7CH5%7Cpc%7CH6%7Cpc%7CS2%7Cpc%7CHQ%7Cpc%7CS3%7Cpc%7CD2%7Cpc%7CH8%7Cpc%7CDT%7Cpc%7CDQ%7Cpc%7CDK%7Cpc%7CD4%7Cpc%7CD7%7Cpc%7CHJ%7Cpc%7CHT%7Cpc%7CD9%7C]399|300[/hv] 5♣ went 2 down, but the interesting part is the explanation of 4N: Blackwood (D) -- 2-5 ♣; 5-♦; 2-5♥; 2-5♠; 21- HCP; rebiddable ♦; 26+ total points; two stops in ♦ Now on the actual hand 4N was an error, but it seems that after a transfer and then a bid from oppenents the Bot forgets about the transfer and assume the bid was natural When testing this deal with the Bot as opener I also noticed, that East after a 1♣-opening, no longer would bid 4♠ if North passes (It probably assumes 4♠ is a fine sacrifice after a 2N/2♣-opening)
  8. I have noticed than when GIB has the master trump it will wait to the last trick to use it, in principle unless it can see a possibility to get more tricks, but if GIB has a small trump it tends to use it as soon as possible, and ruffing my high cards that is known to be ruffed ny declarer. This also happens in defence, when I play a card intending to ruff in dummy, and dummys trump is higher than the one GIB has.

It loooks like the bot can't bid 3♣ as it would promise extra, so it had to rebid 2♠ Now 2N seems a fine bid and 3♣ is fine North now would like to check for 6-2 in ♥, so rebids 3♥ Now south has a problem, where most probably would bid 3N hoping Jxx is a stopper, but the bot rebids 3♠ For some strange reason North thinks 3♠ is a rebiddable suit and prefers 4♠ to 3N Of couse all have to declare the same contract, and some might even realise they are not playing 3N :-)
  10. Observation no 1: If undisterbed bidding, the BOT will just bid 3♣ and not show the ♠-suit Observation no 2: Over pass, the bot will bid 5♣, and describe the hand as 4=5=0=4. Observation no 3: Over double the bot will not show the ♣-support. Observation no 4: If the opponents just bid 2♦ the bot will not bid 2♠, but 3♣
  11. Yes, you have a point, but thinking about it, Double might be the right bid - I will check the continuation and return. I am not a 2/1 player normally, so I also make mistakes. I am so used to a system, where showing fit is the highest priority
  12. [hv=pc=n&s=sa53h54da93ckqjt3&d=w&v=0&b=8&a=p1hp2c3d3s4d]133|200[/hv] What should i bid now? This is a challenge, and you will have the best hand in regards to HCP, but you still need to find a bid. We know partner is short (single or void in ♦) Question is if partner could be 5-6 in the majors, what about 4-6 would GIB then bid 3♥? When you have decided you can take a look at the hand

  15. It seems adding a rule with the following constraints: Bidding NT with a passed hand opposite a passed partner is minors - any level - according to losers, and less restrictive in pass-out situation would be a fine improvement

Now after the transfer Double is T/O, but what is 2N ? I don't think we can find any bridge player, that will agree with the GIB-definition: Invitational to 3NT game -- 20+ HCP, 20- total points and a ♠-stopper

I just hit an old error I have seen reported on BridgeWinners, and it might be reported here [hv=url=https://www.bridgebase.com/tools/handviewer.html?bbo=y&lin=pn%7CThorvald%2CRobot%2CRobot%2CRobot%7Cst%7C%7Cmd%7C4SAJT84HA73DA7CT95%2CS9765HJ5DKQ6CAJ32%2CS3HKT642DJ9852CQ4%2CSKQ2HQ98DT43CK876%7Csv%7CN%7Cah%7CBoard%202%7Cmb%7CP%7Cmb%7C1S%7Can%7CMajor%20suit%20opening%20--%205%2B%20%21S%3B%2011-21%20HCP%3B%2012-22%20total%20points%7Cmb%7CP%7Cmb%7C1N%7Can%7CForcing%20one%20notrump%20--%203-%20%21S%3B%206%2B%20HCP%3B%2012-%20total%20points%7Cmb%7CP%7Cmb%7C2C%7Can%7CNew%20suit%20--%203%2B%20%21C%3B%203-%20%21H%3B%205%2B%20%21S%3B%2011%2B%20HCP%3B%2012-18%20total%20points%7Cmb%7CP%7Cmb%7C2D%7Can%7C5%2B%20%21D%3B%202-%20%21S%3B%206-9%20HCP%7Cmb%7CP%7Cmb%7CP%7Cmb%7CP%7Cpc%7CD3%7Cpc%7CD7%7Cpc%7CDQ%7Cpc%7CD2%7Cpc%7CHJ%7Cpc%7CHK%7Cpc%7CH8%7Cpc%7CH3%7Cpc%7CD5%7Cpc%7CD4%7Cpc%7CDA%7Cpc%7CD6%7Cpc%7CCT%7Cpc%7CCA%7Cpc%7CC4%7Cpc%7CC8%7Cpc%7CH5%7Cpc%7CH2%7Cpc%7CH9%7Cpc%7CHA%7Cpc%7CH7%7Cpc%7CS7%7Cpc%7CH4%7Cpc%7CHQ%7Cpc%7CCK%7Cpc%7CC5%7Cpc%7CC2%7Cpc%7CCQ%7Cpc%7CC7%7Cpc%7CC9%7Cpc%7CCJ%7Cpc%7CD8%7Cpc%7CHT%7Cpc%7CC6%7Cpc%7CS4%7Cpc%7CDK%7Cpc%7CC3%7Cpc%7CD9%7Cpc%7CDT%7Cpc%7CS8%7Cpc%7CSK%7Cpc%7CSA%7Cpc%7CS9%7Cpc%7CS3%7Cmc%7C7%7C]399|300[/hv] Now my opponent passed 1N that just made. The rules for bidding 2♦ and 2♥ are exactly the same 5+ in the suit and 0-1♠, the 2 rules have same priority, and is independent of length, so even with 7♥ and 5♦ it will bid 2♦ - probably becuase the rules are evaluated ♣♦♥♠ Finally I had it figured out, but then I was hit by this deal [hv=pc=n&&a=1n3cppdp&n=sa6432hkt632dtct2]199|300[/hv] Now I think that most of us would Double or bid 4♣ at our first turn, and after the T/O double from partner we would bid 4♣ to ask partner for the better major, but now the Bot decides to bid 4♠, so here it seems ♠ is better than ♥ - I fon't get it
  19. [hv=pc=n&n=sq9543hk987dcaj42&d=n&v=n&b=5&a=p3dd4d]133|200[/hv] Now the Robot has a responsive double available, and that is really fine. But now the trouble begin If partner responds 4♥ after the Double, the bot think it should bid 4♠, now that could be right, but probably not. But what if partner bids 6♥, well the bot now insist and bids 6♠ If partner bids 5♥ the bot will Pass. If partner bids 4♥ and over 4♠ bids 6♥ then bot will still bid 6♠ To play in ♥ partner must jump to 5♥ or rebid 5♥ over 4♠ now the bot will pass, but playing in 6♥ seems impossible Partners hand [hv=pc=n&s=sak2haqjt5da7ct86]133|100[/hv] and ♠ 5-0 My opponent in the challenge just jumped to 4♥ over 3♦ - He knows his partner
  20. :-) perhaps I should have added unless it is an exposed card
  21. We all know that sometimes GIB makes an unexpected play due to the simulations, but this is the first time I have seen this kind of play at trick 1 [hv=url=https://www.bridgebase.com/tools/handviewer.html?bbo=y&lin=pn%7CThorvald%2CRobot%2CRobot%2CRobot%7Cst%7C%7Cmd%7C1SAJ972HTDKQJT9CJ6%2CSK53HKJ9873DA43C9%2CSQ64HAQD652CKT732%2CST8H6542D87CAQ854%7Csv%7CB%7Cah%7CBoard%207%7Cmb%7C1S%7Can%7CMajor%20suit%20opening%20--%205%2B%20%21S%3B%2011-21%20HCP%3B%2012-22%20total%20points%7Cmb%7C2H%7Can%7CTwo-level%20overcall%20--%205%2B%20%21H%3B%2010%2B%20HCP%3B%2011-18%20total%20points%7Cmb%7C3H%7Can%7CCue%3A%20limit%20raise%20or%20better%20--%203%2B%20%21S%3B%2011%2B%20total%20points%7Cmb%7CP%7Cmb%7C4S%7Can%7C5%2B%20%21S%3B%2015-17%20total%20points%7Cmb%7CP%7Cmb%7CP%7Cmb%7CP%7Cpc%7CC9%7Cpc%7CC2%7Cpc%7CCA%7Cpc%7CC6%7Cpc%7CD8%7Cpc%7CDQ%7Cpc%7CDA%7Cpc%7CD2%7Cpc%7CH3%7Cpc%7CHA%7Cpc%7CH6%7Cpc%7CHT%7Cpc%7CS4%7Cpc%7CS8%7Cpc%7CSA%7Cpc%7CS5%7Cpc%7CS2%7Cpc%7CSK%7Cpc%7CS6%7Cpc%7CST%7Cpc%7CHK%7Cpc%7CHQ%7Cpc%7CH5%7Cpc%7CS7%7Cmc%7C10%7C]399|300[/hv] As declarer after the lead of a ♣ to easts A I was preparred to take a ♣-finesse if needed, but this time the robot play just gave away the contract. Also note that on the return of a ♦ i used the Queen causing West to switch to ♥, but in the replay declarer used the ♦K, and here West continued ♦

But here it did not matter because of declarers error in the ♣-suit Bridge is a funny game
