"Precision Today" agrees with you. p. 97 in a section titled "Opener's Rebid [after a 1♦ opening]" says "rebid 2♣ with an unbalanced hand--usually at least 5-4 in the minors but 1-4-4-4, 1-4-3-5, and 1-4-5-3 patterns are possible." Another possibility to avoid this problem is to open 2♦ with any 4441. The Viking Club (in the base version, pp. 185-187) does this. As a result, the 1♦-1M-2♣ shows at least 5-4 in the minors. In the advanced version of Viking, 4441 are included in the 1♦ opening (p. 249). After 1♦-1♥ (which is either a natural 1♥ response or a GF relay), opener rebids 2♠ with all 4441 hands that do not include 4 hearts. But after 1♦-1♠ (natural, 6+ HCP, 4+ long) you have the same problems as here. BTW, has anyone experimented with the 1♦-1♥ relay in Viking? What hands do you relay with versus "natural bidding"? Is the relay used only for directionless hands? How does Viking club deal with hands with 6 bad clubs ? Open 2 ♣ even if the 3♣ rebid will be awful or open 1♦ and then the 2♣ rebid would show 9 cards in the minors ?

I have read something on similar hands in a book on Psyches (have it at home, I may quote the deals). The principle is that bidding 7♣ immediately will likely have the opponents (if they are good) bid 7 of another suit, so much better bid slowly and not be greedy: 5 or 6♣ doubled will bring more than the opponents bidding 7 of a suit. I would start this hand by bidding 3 clubs. The plan is to bid 4, then 5, then 6 and then 7 in steps, if the bidding does not take off. There are several hands bid like that by old time champs. It makes the opponents less suspicious. Alternatively, a point can be made of 4NT (if it is intended as Ace asking). It is of course useless, but intended to deceive the opponents about my kind of hand.

First issue 1) 20+ 4441 hands I like the idea of getting rid of 4441 from strong 1C sequences. It is rare, but at IMPS rare strong hands have anyway impact on the score, the same cannot be said for pairs tourns, where swings frequency matters much more than magnitude. Inserting a strong hand in MULTI is not a novelty, actually it was part of the original multi which included: - weak 2 - 21-22 balanced (customize HCP range if u like) - 17-24 4441 Eliminating from this the strong balanced 17-19 hcp 4441 helps the clarity. The way to show the 20+ 4441 is fairly simple: 2♦:2NT -3♣ = good weak 2 in ♥ OR 4441 20-24, black sngl; after responder's 3♦ relay, opener describes (♥= weak 2, 1st/2nd step = ♣/♠ shortness); -3♦ = good weak 2 in ♠ OR 4441 20-24, red sngl; after responder's 3♥ relay, opener describes(♠= weak 2, 1st/2nd step = ♦/♥ shortness); -3♥♠= bad weak 2, natural -3NT/4♣♦♥= 4441 25+, singleton right above the suit bid (responder bids the sngltn to ask keycards, other bids are signoff) 2♦:2♥ (pass or correct or semipositive denying ♥ tolerance) -2♠ = weak 2 in spades -2NT/3♣♦♥= strong 4441, unspecified range, sngltn right above suit bid, next step relay by responder asks range, other bids are signoff 2♦:2♠ (semipositive, denies ♠tolerance) -3♥ = weak 2 in ♥ -2NT/3♣♦♠= strong 4441, unspecified range,sngltn right above suit bid (except 3♠, singleton exactly in ♠, when 3NT by responder cannot be to play since 2♠ denied ♠ tolerance, therefore 3NT will be relay), next step relay by responder asks range, other bids are signoff ------------------------------------------- 2nd issue 2♠ and higher for clubs and 2-under preempts The idea is not mine, but of Bergn's. The idea is that in 1st seat and 2nd seat you can preempt much more often with trash, just if your pard was passed. If you bid 2-under rather than 1-under, responder will be able to use the in-between step to check whether we can be missing game-slam (the prempt was "good" = constructive), or whether opener has rubbish. This you cannot do with 1-under preempts. In 3rd seat, since pard is a passed hand and I do not worry of preempt quality, I revert to natural preempts, and I can use 2♠ and 2NT as a weak 2-suiters, similar to what you suggested.

I plan to use: 2♦= multi, weak 2 in a major OR 4441 20+ (17-19 4441 are included in 1♣/1NT opening) 2♥= 4441, 5440, 5431 short in diamonds. Bergen's "Two-under" preempts in 1st - 2nd seat (3rd seat natural preempts) 2♠= good/bad preempt in ♣ 2NT= good/bad preempt in ♦ ........... 3♥=good/bad 4-level ♣preempt 3♠= gambling 3NT = good/bad 4-level ♦preempt 4♣♦= Namyats ------------------------------- Not sure of bad 6 clubs hands. I'd like to open 2♣ with at least 2 of the top 5 honors, minimum quality being JT98xx or QT9xxx not vuln. So I guess I'd open 1♦ with a J86432 club suit.

Sorry if I ask for further clarifications, but I need to get rid of the many doubts :) Assume you hold x-KQxx-Axxx-AQxx 1) you open 1NT with 14-16 balanced 2) you DO NOT have an opening for minimum 4441 openers (except if short in diamonds). Therefore, if you do open this hand 1♦, what will be your rebid if pard responds 1♠ ? - if you rebid 2♣ are you showing 54 either way in the minors ? in that case, this bid would be inappropriate; - if you rebid 1NT, you give a 11-13 range balanced, which distorts both shape and HCP; in that case, it would be better to incoude 4441 into the 14-16 NT opening (although I have bad feelings towards treating ANY 4441 as balanced). Comments ?

I AM italian :) But I would not double with either hand. In italian textbooks for novices, takeout double is said to promise at least 4-3 in the unbid majors and nothing in the unbid minors. I would not double hand 1 because of Aceless hands, many quacks and wasted values in opponent's suit. I'd be happy to defend with that hand unless pard shows some values. I would not double hand 2 because pard could jump to 3♥ invitational counting me for 3(rarely) or 4(more likely) cards in♥, and we would be in big trouble. Unless we are at Matchpoints tourney, and we feel committed to a wild partscore battle here, I would not force with double, since if pard cannot come up with a bid in direct or balancing seat, we will not have game for sure, at at most we'll have a partscore.

Hi all, it's me again with my dumb questions ! :) Playing Precision, 14-16 NT range and 2♣ opening requiring an excellent suit or a 6 bagger, you may open 1♦ with as little as 2 ♦. Therefore the followwing q: 1) 1♦:1M:2♣ What shape does it guarantee ? I light of nebulous shape, I do not know whether it shows 5-4/4-5 in the minors or if it just guarantees clubs. What should responder assume ? 2)1♦:2♣:2M Does opener guarantee 5♦ and 4M, ♣+M or balanced +M ? What should responder assume ? 3) Is there a sequence by which responder can understand better opener's "nebulous" hand ? Please note that I do not mention overcalled sequences, opponents are silent. I have that book :( And I have "Counting at bridge", a very nice CD (I recommend it :) ) And I have "Dormer on deduction", "All 52 cards" (Miles), "How to read your opponent cards" (Lawrence), and many similar others. The problem is that all these books describe to the reader *how to make use* of counting, but not *how to count and remember*. Actually the book that came closer to what I need what exactly Karpin's "The art of card reading". I love the above books, they are great, I read and reread them often (I commute to work every day by train so I have the time to do it :) ). But my problem right now *how to count and remember cards*, not *what inferences and decisions make of the result of counting*. Thanks anyway !! :angry:

Hi all, I would like to hear about techniques for improving skills in counting the hand, remebering cards, etc. I have started playing bridge 2.5 years ago, and I had never played seriously card games before. However, I took advantage of my chess player's experience (I am a Master) in studying the "right books". I studied a lot of books, and this certainly helped me improving my bidding knowledge and hand evaluation faster than other players who played only 2 years. Improving bidding skill is - in general - something very conceptual, and I found it very natural after years of studying chess strategy. Yet, card play is another story. I identified my greatest "black hole" in card play even since the beginning, and therefore tried to cope with it the same way I did with bidding: reading tons of books (almost everything by Lawrence, Kelsey, Roth, Reese and more authors), and playing a lot, at the table and online. Thgis certainly helped developing a sense for the *strategy* in playing cards (dangerous opponent, endplay strategies, percentage plays, safety plays, etc). But what is still missing is the basic *technique* = REMEMBERING the cards, which is different from tactics and strategy, simply vbecause it lays at their foundation. Yes, I have trouble remembering the cards. At trick 5 I have already forgotten some key cards that went out. Or, after an opp fails to follow suit the first time, at his second or 3rd discard, the distribution becomes already very "foggy". When I play live at the club, most of the time, such skill is not crucial, yet I know that if I want to really improve, I must develop this. After the hand, other players discuss how the hand wd have gone with another switch or discard; I cannot, because I do not have a mental picture of the hand. ------------------------------------------------------------------ This brings my questions: 1) how long did you take before remembering the hand well ? 1 year ? 2 years ? 5 years ? I guess this is also dependent on the age when you start, so I will add that I am 36 years old. 2) Did you use (or do you suggest) techniques for developing this skill - except the obvious "play, play, play" ? I read the following advice in Karpin's "The art of cart reading". He presents a hand where declarare should make 7NT. The hand has a mirrored distribution (4333 by 4333), with a 2-way finesse position on a Queen. The contract can be made only by guessing the queen, so the key is play off the oter suits to get distributional infos useful to count the hand and finally make the percentage finesse. He suggests that the same deal (or similar) is replayed dozens of time shuffling opps cards and keeping declarer and dummy's hands the same. I am doing this with GIB, and it seems ok as a practicing technique. But any other tip, or experience will be greatly appreciated ! Thanks :angry: Mauro

Hi Claus, at least for my case your point is true. I certainly cannot say to be knowledgeable in Precision sequences. Yet I am reading very much: I have read and re-read 5 books on Precision, plus a few on strong club in general, plus one on Viking club and one on "Nightmare". This means nothing in terms of expertise of mine, and I am well aware of it. But it says another thing: if I am ignorant even after reading and rereading these books, what should I expect from my partners who did not even read them and are expecting me to feed them with system infos? This brings my second point. There are things that are theoretically sound. Other that are practical. For instance, I know my partners and I know that the only way I can get them introduced to Precision (or strong club) is to "fool them", e.g. let them think that "Precision is like natural bidding, with just a few differences". Of course these differences would be strong club, NT ranges, and limited-range suit openings. So the only way to "jump the barrier" is to take the usual SAYC-2/1 structure and try to move it into a strong club system modifying as little as possible at first; then adding in a gradual way minor differences so that the transition is acceptable. Remember that these are pards that play bridge once in a week or twice at most and do not play online. The alternatives would be either to change pard (not so easy if u live in an area with limited potential bridge partners) or to give up hopes to play a strong club (a common sense approach, but trying to play more sophisticated systems is fun, even if not exactly properly, isn't it ?). The last resort is to try to mix a natural SAYC-2/1 system and a strong club system in the most compatible way. I chose the latter not because I think it is best, but because I believe it will scare less people. Yet, my post is oriented towards trying to understand what is wrong with the structure I thought. And I will appreciate any CONCRETE comment/criticism to a *specific* bidding sequence(rather than theoretical discussion on the value of captainship by limited/unlimited or balanced/unbalanced hands). In any case, thx to all the people who responded, I got several good points to discuss/investigate further !!!! :)

My choice was done after reading some comments by Berkowicz ("Precision today": he states that using a "nebulous diamond" that may be 2 cards is less risky than having to rebid 3♣ with a 5 card suit), and trying to copy the nebulous diamond approach used my Meckwell :) I will discuss with pard the NT range suggestions you gave me. I appreciate ur comments, u sure are more experienced than myself ! :)

Mauro - like Mikestar in another thread - you are trying to break basics in strong club systems. The hand to be queried is the one which is limited - mostly the weakest one. Therefore you will see the champions have success playing strong club systems. Thanks Claus. But after reading stuff on the viking club, it seems to me that is not so wrong to use such kinds of sequence. In Viking club, you can use the 1♣/1♥ rebid relay to describe at the next turn your hand. I like the fact that this way, minor-oriented battleships do not have to jump at the 3-level to establish a force over a 1♦ negative. After all, this would not be the only case where the contract is chosen by the weak hand provided the stronger hand has found a way to describe accurately is holding. Or am I missing something ?

Hi all, I am trying to come to a compromise with a pard of mine on using a Precision system. This is what we come to an agreement so far (I skip the contested auctions). We picked ideas from here and there, and not necessarily all pieces fit together, so I would appreciate comments by Precision aficionados which on what may be the "black holes", thanks to all the BBO gurus and the BBO friends ;) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1NT Weak NT, 13-15 (I'd love variable range NT but right now it is banned at my lvel of play in italy). Development with full xfers, stayman, etc. This development could be changed if adopting another staymanic structure devised by italian expert Enzo Riolo (RIOLO937 on BBO), to cope also with 4441 hands, which I will not post here until I have the time to translate it :) Other stronger balanced hands hcp ranges are: 1C/1NT = 16-19 1C/1H (strong artif. relay)/1NT = 20-21 1C/1H (strong artif. relay)/2NT = 22-23 2C Opening I prefer not to open any 5c-4M, unles the club suit quality allows me a 3c rebid. Because of this, the 1D opening becomes more "nebulous" when i have a 1-4-3-5 / 4-1-3-5 shape with lousy clubs. Std Prec development 1D 11-12 balanced or 11+, diamonds oriented but may be a 1-4-3-5 / 4-1-3-5 see above). Natural responses, 2/1 (even 2D) strongly invitational. 1H/1S Std precision opening, use 1NT forcing and Bergen/Jacoby structure. The "Golady" structures seems easy to remember and not so bad (http://www.firesides.net/golady.htm) 1C Opening-16+ any hand On the negative 1D I'd like to use 1H as strong artificial meaning ither 20+ balanced or a 9 playing tricks/ 4 loser hand. Responder would bid 1♠ as double negative, otherwise any other bid would be natural, GF, at least one cover card, giving distribution (1NT = balanced, 2 of a suit = natural, 5 cards, 3♣= unusual positive, 4441 black singleton, 3♦ = unusual positive red sngltn). Instead, after 1♣:1♦, any bid other than 1♥ shows a minimum reverse (say 16-18/bad 19) - 1♠ through 2♥ is natural and may be passed - 2♠,2NT, 3 of a suit show various two suiters, following the Viking club scheme, and may be passed when the suit bid is a real suit. On positive responses to 1♣ I'd just be content with "standard" Prec. approaches, (with basic TAB and CABs structure) skipping more complicated relay structures. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2♦ and higher level openings 2♦ = multi = weak 2 in a major or strong 4441. Elena, io sono d'accordo con te praticamente su quasi tutto quanto hai espresso. Ho difeso il diritto all'anonimato in senso generale, ma ritengo che la registrazione con nick verificabile ai tornei BBO non sia una cosa folle, ma di buon senso : che un'organizzazione (tipo BBO Italia) abbia il diritto di associare i nick almeno a qualche dato personale, lo condivido. Tanto per fare un esempio, nei server online scacchistici, la registrazione di un nick deve essere associata ad un email "vero" (non hotmail, yahoo o quant'altro, ma con un dominio verificabile tramite provider). Questo serve ad evitare abusi del tipo a cui ti riferisci (disconnessioni e riconnsessioni "strategiche" eccetera). Il mio intervento voleva porre l'accento su altre questioni: il post era nato sulla valutazione dell'anonimato *in senso assoluto*, valutato come una forma di maleducazione. Secondo me, e secondo moltissime altre persone nel mondo, l'anonimato online non è una forma di maleducazione, ma un diritto alla privacy e da qui è nato il discorso (che poi si è spostato sulla questione BBOItalia che non intendo riprendere in questa occasione). Chiaro che poi a qualcuno possa dare fastidio, ma è piuttosto semplice rifiutare al tavolo giocatori anonimi, ed è un diritto sacrosanto farlo, rispettando nel contempo la volontà di altri giocatori a far uso del diritto all'anonimato (che non è necessariamente un difetto, fintanto che non sconfina nel cattivo gusto, maleducazione o quant'altro...). Infine, riguardo alla domanda se BBO sia un sito di Bridge o un sito internet dove si gioca anche a bridge, sarebbe interessante fare un sondaggio fra tutti coloro che si collegano. Non sono sicuro di quale sarebbe il risultato, nonostante conosca parecchia gente su BBO. I am interested to the 2C relay to be included in a Precision framework, 5 card major, since I believe it it is more justified that responder becomes captain of the auction when the opener is known to be limited. I will check Ben's scheme, do you suggest it also for a strong club system ? Or do you think the von Arnim - Auken scheme can be efficiently moved to a 5 card major system ? Thanks !!! :rolleyes:

Capp is not very popular in Italy, whereas many players use defenses that make use of: 1) 2♣ Landy for majors and 2♦ either for 2a) a unspecified major single suited OR 2b) as transfer to ♥ (single suited) coupled with 2♥ transfer to ♠. Assolutamente no, non sono certo di nulla, figurarsi di questo. Ma mi premeva sottolineare un punto che mi sembrava - e mi sembra - non venga minimamente considerato. BBO, secondo me, era ed è ancora un'isola felice proprio per l'assenza di competizione. Lo stesso Fred Gitelman la pensava cosi', lo ha ripetuto piu' volte nei primi anni, e lo sai bene: ha dichiarato piu' volte che riteneva che l'introduzione dell'elemento competitivo, in forma di rating o quant'altro, avrebbe aumentato notevolmente il rischio di un avvelenamento dell'atmosfera amichevole di BBO. Ricordo benissimo i primi tempi di BBO, quando tutti coloro che hanno giocato su OKBridge e sono passati a BBO erano felici dell'atmosfera rilassata su BBO, legata proprio all'assenza di rating, al contrario dell'atmosfera avvelenata su OKBridge. E fra questi che si lamentavano di OKBridge c'erano anche giocatori forti, i quali dichiaravano di non passare da OKB a BBO per l'interfaccia, ma proprio per l'ambiente molto piu' amichevole. Poi ognuno fa le sue considerazioni, certo, ma io spero che BBO rimanga per il maggior tempo possibile lontano dalle stesse logiche distorte di circolo che fanno si' che io e tanti altri bridgisti evitiamo accuratamente di frequentare un circolo: ovvero le logiche legate all'introduzione di una gerarchia formalizzata, che gia' esiste su scala nazionale, e non si capisce perchè debba essere replicata. Ripeto, io parlo per me, non per altri e non sono certo di nulla, ma ci tenevo ad esprimere il mio dissenso vero la direzione che sta prendendo BBOItalia.

Aggiungo una cosa sul "problema" dei nick multipli. Ci sono diversi motivi per avere "Nick" multipli. Uno è per divertirsi, per esempio. Tra i miei nick annovero una lista con "Piadina", "ErMonnezza", oppure "FrancyitJR" quando voglio prendere in giro la mia amica Francyit oppure "KSCham" quando voglio prendere in giro il mio amico KSChan, eccetera... E poi ci possono essere altri motivi: da quando sono state introdotte le "categorie" Expert, intermediate eccetera, è sempre piu' difficile giocare con uno forte a meno di non essere almeno "advanced". Io sono intermediate, e ho la fortuna cmq di avere qualche amico/a expert con cui giocare. Quando non ci sono, spesso gioco con altri intermediate senza problemi, ma magari qualche volta avrei voglia di giocare con i forti. Come fare ? Molti hanno scelto la strada diretta: scrivere in profilo "advanced" o "expert" anche se non lo sono. Tanto è vero che si è assistito ad una svalutazione di queste auto-attribuzioni. Io non ne sono capace, ma fanno bene, perche' almeno sabotano alla base il principio della gerarchia delle caste, anche se lo fanno per ragioni molto meno nobili... L'alternativa qual'è ? Semplice: provate a collegarvi con un nick femminile ed appollaiarvi ad angolizzare un giocatore forte, senza fare nulla, basta aspettare che sia lui a rivolgere la parola, e lo fara'... Dopo le prime avances, verrete immediatamenti invitati a giocare con lui, anche se vi ritiene delle "pippe", agli ormoni non si comanda... Se poi avete tempo da perdere, ricollegatevi col nick maschile e notate la differenza di trattamento... --------------------------------------------- Una cosa analoga accadde fra il 1998 e il 2001 nel forum scacchistico italiano, "it.hobby.scacchi" (IHS): comparve una certa "Milla" che postava quesiti scacchistici e in piu' ogni tanto segnalava il suo sito con foto "da sventola". Milla era anche appassioanata di matematica, astronomia e fantascienza. Ogni tanto postava le sue novelle di fantascienza, con grande approvazione del NG (approvazioine di natura prevalentemente... ormonale) Neanche a dirlo, gli utenti di IHS facevano a gara a risponderle (io per fortuna stavo in USA :angry: ), e le inviavano email di tutti i generi. Finchè, dopo un paio d'anni , "Milla" rivelo' la sua identità: si trattava di un ragazzo, con l'hobby dello scrivere e degli scacchi. Prima di assumere l'identità di "Milla", aveva provato a chiedere qualche quesito su IHS, ma ben pochi gli avevano dato retta... Ma quando era arrivata la bella "Milla", tutti quanti ai suoi piedi, come pere cotte.... Alla fine il ragazzo aveva deciso di rivelare la propria identità per non giocare con i sentimenti dei suoi vari spasimanti virtuali accumulati nel frattempo.... Credo ci sia una lezione da imparare da questo aneddoto...

Ovviamente premetto la risposta che si', ovviamente è un diritto escludere dal proprio tavolo chiunque, per qualunque motivo :) Pero', quello che mi preme di piu', e che mi "scalda" è la cosa seguente (e da qui in poi evitero' di ripetere il dovuto "secondo me", che è naturalmente d'obbligo). A TUTTI I COSTI BBO DEVE RIMANERE DIVERSO DA UN CIRCOLO DI BRIDGE NORMALE !! I circoli di bridge dal vivo sono posti in cui il principiante fa fatica a giocare con i giocatori piu' esperti. Si creano "caste" bridgistiche, tavoli di serie A e tavoli di serie B. Io sono su BBO da quando eravamo collegati in 12-13 al giorno. Avevo cominciato da poco, autodidatta. Ho avuto la fortuna di poter giocare con gente relativamente forte che mi dava consigli e correggeva i miei errori. La cosa bella era: 1) LA TOTALE ASSENZA DI RATING 2) la totale asenza di autovalutazione. In altre parole, la cosa bella era che non ci fosse nessun criterio per selezionare, cosi' non venivi scartato dal giocatore forte a priori sollo xche' il tuo profilko non diceva "advanced" o "expert". Il giocatore forte si sedeva, e qualche volte rimaneva pure contento di come giocavi tu anche se eri pollo. Ecco, io quello che auspico è che ci sia il meno possibile la possibilità di filtrare uin base alla forza. Auspico che molti piu' giocatori forti finiscano a giocare "per caso" con le "pippe", nmagari scoprendo che non è cosi' brutto giocarci assieme. Auspico che su BBO continui ad acxcadere quello che ai circoli dal vivo succede pochissimo. Auspico che siano sempre di meno i messaggi alla Lobby che invitano al tavolo "per expert only". Auspico che non venga mai creato un sistema di punteggio interno a BBO, che faccia si' che chi è in alto "abbioa timore di perdere punteggio " giocando talvolta con uno scarso. Auspico che sia possibile non rivelare il proprio nome, cosa a mio avvso non maleducata ma di elementare privacy. D'altra parte su questo punto è sufficiente guardare lo sviluppo che ha avuto questo thread in inglese, in cui la maggioir parte dei postatori tranne uno (CSDenmark), rivendica il diritto all'anonimato. Auspico che il giocatore scarso possa tenere il proprio nome anoninmo per evitare che si possa risalire al suo punteggio ed il solito "expert" coin la puzza al naso non voglia giocarci. In poche parole, auspico che non si riproduca su BBO la stortura che si vede nel bridge dal vivo, ma si aiuti la comunicazione fra giocatori scarsi e quelli forti. ------------------------------------- Per il resto, caro Tiurbin, ci siamo anche conosciuti dal vivo a Rimini una decina d'anni fa, e facemmo pure una partita a scacchi (una Pirc in cui avevi il Bianco finita patta dopo busta) :angry: ciao a tutti

Raffaello Baldini è forse il piu' grande poeta dialettale romagnolo contemporaneo, descrive in maniera toccante tantissime scene del quotidiano popolare, quadretti che diventano sempre piu' rari. Attualmente Ivano Marescotti sta portando in tournèe uno spettacolo teatrale, "Intercity", basato sull'omonima raccolta di poesie di Baldini. Io non gioco spesso su BBO_ITALIA, e se lo faccio lo faccio col mio nick. Ciononostante non mi piace per niente la piega che sta prendendo BBO ITALIA: ho visto tornei i cui non si puo' angolizzare, sto assistendo a un'evoluzioine in cui BBO ITALIA sembra voler emulare la FIGB , che il cielo ce ne scampi!! La mia idea è che sia meglio mantenere le caratteristiche del mezzo internet, senza voler ricostruire una specie di Federazione virtuale, con regole, cavilli e quant'altro... e senza obbligare qualcuno a qualificarsi, il bello di internet è prprio quello, almeno fino a quando viene mantenuto il rispetto. Per quanto riguarda l'autovalutazione, è una barzelletta bell'e buona: mentre world class, expert e novice sono categorie ben definite, dove passa la differenza fra intermediate rispetivamente con beginner ed expert? Apriamo gli occhi e guardiamoci in giro, e si vedrà che non c'è un criterio obiettivo, e allora, come diceva il grande Toto', "Ma mi faccia il piacere..." E lo dico io che mi qualifico come intermediate e non mi sembra di rubare nulla nel contesto BBO (chiedete a chi mi conosce). E devo dire che il tono seccato di Vincenzo non mi è piaciuto *per niente*, ma tant'è... Mi sembrava BBO e BBOITALIA dovesse essere un luogo di incontro, amicizia, e invece vedo nascere e crescere regolamenti pseudoagonistici con le relative storture. Hi all, I have a few questions on the following sequence: None vuln, IMPS scoring 1♠-Dbl-2♠-? I held AQ-xx-Qxxxx-T9xx Having agreed with pard, I chose to double, as responsive double. We play responsive double as showing 8+ hcp, and exactly 4-4 in the majors if the bidding was 1m-x-2m. In case of a major opening raise, double would show the monors, but we did not discuss whether in thsi case it would show exactly 4-4 , or whether, with 5-4 or 5-5, it would be better to bid 3 of a suit. After I doubled, my pard played me for a 4-4 in a minor, and jumped to 4 H (she had doubled with a 5 card major reverse). Also, she pointed out that in order to bid a responsive double, it would be better not to have 6 of my 8 hcp in opps suit... Question 1 (actually 1a thru 1c .... :angry: ) Does responsive double for the minors show exactly 4-4 or would you extend it to 5-4 ? What would u bid with 5-5 and 8/9+ hcp ? And what would you have bid with my hand ? Question 2 After this hand we also discussed the possibility to use 2NT Lebensohl in the given sequence (1y-X-2y-2NT). I objected that the Lebensohl schemes I know of use penalty Double to make for the loss of the 2NT invitational bid. If you give up BOTH the penalty double (and use it as responsive) AND the natural invitational 2NT (using it as Lebensohl relay), there will be balanced hands with hcp in opps suit where you'll be forced to pass and quite often pard will be in an awkward balancing situation. It is true you seldom want to penalize opps but you want to be able to show your hcp when u are balanced and cannot bid at the 3 level, no matter if for competitive or constructive purposes...
