It does depend on hand. I don't feel this is a clearcut reopener.
-
This has happened to me many times. (1♦) - 1♥ - (3♦) - BIT pass pass - ? Now I feel obligated to pass.
-
Easy to reopen when we see both hands. At the table I would probably pass. Did your teammates present your opponents the same problems?
-
Who knows the relative probabilities? If pard opens 1♣ and RHO preempts 2 of a major, I just bid as if pard started with 5+ clubs.
-
That's what I never understood with those who signal on every card. How do they know everything about every hand on trick 1? Don't those signals often help declarer more than partner?
-
That's what I would have done. C. Heart loses when West is 2=2=2=7. West has time to set up ♠Q for diamond pitch. Spade loses when West is 1=2=3=7. West can play diamonds on spades. Loses only 4 tricks instead of 5.

Best uses for jumpshifts after a 1C/1D opening

I forgot about 4333. So it is possible that there is only a 5-3 fit. The fit jump is only forcing to game. So unless opener makes moves toward slam responder should make no aggressive moves pass game. -

I play Hardy style 2/1. With Kxxx, Kxxx, xxx, AK I open ♦. Do you ever open 1♣ with a doubleton and not have both four-card majors? Think there must be a major suit fit or club fit when you are 5-4. -

I prefer lowering the standards for the fit jump. Originally it was about points only. Then Cohen told the masses trump fit matters. Later Lawrence/Wirgren told us about shortness in the side suits. Combine all the variables into the bidding. Many pairs play fit jumps in contested auctions. Start playing fit jumps in all auctions. Remember 5431 is much better than 5422. With 5422 one still needs about 16 HCP for a fit jump. With 5431 the right 11 HCP may work. 1♠ - ? ♠ Axxx ♥ x ♦ xxx ♣ AKxxx Bid 3♣. When you catch pard with the magic minimum, 12 tricks is a heavy favorite. ♠ KQxxx ♥ Axx ♦ x ♣ QJxx 6♠ will usually make. -

http://www.bridgebum.com/soloway_jump_shifts.php Soloway changed his jump shift style years ago to this three way jump shifts. The third type is the fit jump. Lower the point count to minimum with a perfect opening hand. 5-4-3-1 fit. Must have a singleton or void. 1♣ - ? ♠ AKQxx ♥ x ♦ xxx ♣ Axxx Bid 2♠. With a double fit, two minimum opening hands often produce 12 tricks. -
Don't think there is any scientific way to bid this. 1♥ - 2♦ 2♥ - 6♦ ? Opener knows diamond bidder has no interest in hearts. If opener has the ace in spades or clubs, he should 'know' it is the 13th trick and bid 7♦. That is trusting partner.

I can't find where Robson/Segal made comments on NFB. Love NFB for 2♥ and 2♠. For all other freebids use the standard forcing treatment. The point range for the call depends on the length and quality of the suit. Roughly 7-12 with a five card suit and roughly 5-10 with a six card suit. 1♦-2♣-? 1. ♠ AQx ♥ K9xxx ♦ xx ♣ QJx 2♥. 12 points. Don't like the quality of this suit. Don't like only doubleton in partner's suit. QJ of clubs is probably wasted for offense. This looks like two opening hands will not worth game. 2. ♠ xx ♥ KQT9xx ♦ xxx ♣ xx 2♥. Only 5 points. Still love bidding with this hand.
-
This hand is easy. Just bid 3♠. Play jump fits with NFB. A jump fit by a non passed hand is forcing back to opener's suit. Can be passed if made by a passed hand, through this should be rare.

North holds ♣ AJ92. This makes it likely that West holds 6+ clubs. Therefore while 4=4=3=2 is possible for South, it is hardly likely. After the 2♦ raise, South would know to compete to 3♦. South would not pass 3♣X.
-
Don't need to play Acol. The 2♦ is best playing 2/1. North has 4 clubs. His RHO overcalled 2♣. How many clubs can South have? South surely has four diamonds and is a favorite to hold five diamonds.

Minor mistake on their tables. 5-4-3-2 should be 5-4-3-1 -
Risk Taking and Gender: The Case of Bridge

Any study of less than 10,000 boards is pretty much useless. Also the 5% significance level is two std dev(or more precisely 1.96 std dev) not just one. -
The main drawback with puppet is you need a partnership with both partner's capable of remembering all the sequences. I found it not worth all those headaches.
-
That's why I bid 5♣. Not sure what is the best lead against 5♥X.
-
This is why you don't ever bid 7 unless you can count the tricks during the auction. Even in world championship matches there are instances of one team in 7 while the other is in game. You must include the opening lead. A diamond lead restricts your options for playing this board.
-
This board makes 11 tricks in hearts. Pretty sure a 6-1 fit with 100 honors usually plays better than the 4-4 fit.
-
Post the entire board. If hearts don't split 5-1, doesn't hearts make 11 tricks?
-
More fear of missing slam. Isn't 4♥ easier than 4♠? East overbid his hand. Hearts probably makes 11 tricks more often than spades makes 11 tricks.
-
Think you got it. The entire bridge community is too point count oriented. There also seems to be a unnatural fear of missing slam. 4333 is the worst pattern. 4432 is the second worst pattern. Doubleton in pard's 4-card heart suit is not best. Need diamond ten. Even ♠A and ♦J changed to ♠J and ♦A would help.

None of your examples follow the standard support double structure. It is usually 1 apple, pass by LHO, 1 orange(usually a major), 2 lemons. Now 2 oranges show four card support and double shows 3-card orange support. A and G are similar to the support double structure. What percentage of players are playing support doubles on the three level? If they bid my suit and I double, that is for penalties.
