;) Frosty... as usual your grasp of our problems is complete and your solutions are wonderful - if it is possible to program them. Mink, while i agree in theory i am here to tell you you cannot willingly drag me into unclocked events - why? because some people feel need to ponder every card - including singletons, like fate of free world hangs in balance. In theory I like your proposal - but in reality where do you draw line between thinking time and connection time, and how do you (or server) tell difference? I am starting new thread on similar topic but different line of play

:P EEEEEEEEEEEEKKKKKKKKKKKK RUN AWAY RUN AWAY!!!! giggle... I am with Sceptic and Hrothgar (dont faint H) This is one of those "looks good on paper" things

Hi Friends :-) Thanks to FROSTY minutes of July 10 meeting are now available on site. July 10 BBO TDs Meeting :-)

To both Mirjam and McBruce. Rude people stink. Lessons, overanal-ysis (yes hyphen is intentional tee hee) gloating, all harmarks of poor sportsmanship. But I ask you... in our hurry rush to serve our players do you take time to celebrate our decent sportmans? I do when someone call me. In fact I announce it to entire tournament !H!H Good Sportmanship Award for today goes to XXX and his/her partner XXY. Mcbruce you show far more tolerance than I do for yapping after adjustment. As one poster points out it IS "just" a game and will most of us will not remember 3-4 days from now. So why do some insist on arguing for 20-30 min afterwards. I wish i know. Your yellows are here to serve/help you. and you also are servants/volunteers of bbo community. Please feel free to call me if someone is harassing you about some ruling. Often little bit of vacation time from either bbo tournaments or bbo do wonders to improve attitudes.

:P Lets review... Entire purpose of BBO TDs is to give us some where to make some long term weekly schedule, build cooperation amoung tds of BBO and to learn about directing. So schedule starts to build. Many thanks to everyone who send in tournaments. It is testement to BBO Community that goodwill carry over into tournaments. It is great to know I can say "HELP" and some nice fellow BBO TDs will say "sure what do you need?" It is also great to see TDs cooperating with each other, mentoring new tds and doing what they can to improve our TD community. Keep up your good works... and in case people forget to tell you... Thanks for all you do for us all!

:( Well let me clarify further. We are VERY lucky in our ACBL TDs... It is deeeeeeeeeeeeep strong stable of tds - our senior tds (08,09,10,and 11) all direct for many many years now. We keep chat open during tournaments for in effect we get consensus opinions for interesting rulings by drawing on this wealth of experience. On tournament description.... I drives me little bit crazy to see wild combinations of letters with no way to know what they mean. So to me "description" means describe this tournament. I DO ask for more room so I can include things like "Sorry no multi 2d or Wilcosz 2D and I just do not think Sorry no M2d/W2D is going to get our message across. Our little corner of BBO is full of people from around world - many who no idea what is GCC. If we need to pick betwween listing who is directing and what is or is not allow in some contest then "what" will alway "win" over "who." This is in no way any attempt to "hide" id of td from anyone. It is usually relatively easy to tell who is directing by lobby ads prior to start of tournament. Yes this is not ideal but each acbl td DO give you they BBO id when not wearing ACBL_xx id.
-
<_< Hi Friends, Just 1 comment on TDs... ALL and I do mean ALL ACBL TD is certified and VERIFIED with ACBL they are certified Main reason what TD is not post is due to size restrainst in Description
-
:) Sorry if i make people confuse by this new website... several of us brainstorm ideas for website name who cover all websites who in past live on bbototalpoints.bravepages.com site. We conclude BBO Friends is nice name for it do not single out any one group but at same time acknowledge all of these groups as Friends of BBO... So on site you can find BBO TDs, TD101, Total Points Club, and various info pages about other clubs and tournaments and anything else who is helpful to bbo players. BBO Tds is intend, as you mention, to foster cooperation among tds to help us build nice robust schedule of events, improve our skills, and offer schedule to help organize what we all doing. It is not mandatory at all. Membership is open to all BBO-approve tds. Deciding to submit events for schedule is also not mandatory. Participating TDs is only showing they willingness to cooperate with balance of td community so we can serve our community better.

What about special invitational events ?

Booting a client from your Tournement
Gweny replied to inquiry's topic in BBO Tournament Directors Forum
 I for one do not like removing players from tournaments. But I will do so without hesitation for several reasons. like... curse abusing partner, sub, or opps refusing to play harassing td after ruling. On this last one it is true sometimes you may not agree with td ruling but bottom line here is you may not always agree with td but prolong arguement with td is not going to help in 99% of cases and we do need to tend to other players in tournament. You also need remember bringing new info to attention of td is not same thing as argue. No. 1 thing is patience... in reality if we need pick between subbing red player and reviewing your board i think you guess which one we do first tee hee If you refuse to play due to some problem where you disagree then you is fighting very losing battle. we is going to replace you and move on. you will then sit in lobby and cry "why do you remove me" Same thing if you refuse to play with sub. Subs is lifes blood of tournaments. We are completely unable to run tournaments if no subs. To refuse to play with one is not very nice and frankly maybe you need vacation time from tournaments to consider why it is not very nice. Trust me, tds do not live to replace partners. We want you happy. But if it is necessary to give you sub then we do expect you to accept this gracefully and keep playing. No TD willingly do things to make our players mad or unhappy. But sometimes players do not agree with what we do... and if it do then please remember we are doing this to provide tournament for your enjoyment and we need your cooperation not your arguement or anger. -
 Let us assume bidding is end and 6nt contract is no brain, no finesse necessary to make...
-
Stratify... to split into specific games base on number of ACBL masterpoints you hold. :-)
-
:D Pairs game... and 1 partner of N/S boots.. Through no fault of remaining partner who is on way to laydown slam.... Subs can not stay in chair and after maybe 4-5 subs time is up on round... E/W who is holding total of 6 hcps now wants A+ adjustment... What say ye? Is it ok to "reward" E/W for opp booting?
-
:D So what do you prefer? How do stratified games sound? Can we interest you in 19ers, 299er, exhibition matches? What do you want to see?

New levels of anger.

true but this is funfishy -
Hmmm well this create slight problem.... 1st off... you are aware you may pick you sub if you partner is red? 2nd off... often subs is "tight" and needing to find 2 is just not option due to tightness 3rd... we do not like to sub but it is necessary to keep game flowing. it is also not fair to penalize you opps for you partners bad connection. many of us try and return partner at least 1 time... in fishys 1 time if sub agree (and most do) but if they boot 2nd time then sub stays. it is not our intention to force you to play with stranger. if this is frequent problem for you then i think you need pick partnerr with better connection.

Nice thread. I am "guilty party". What dr. todd fail to tell you is he do NOT call us when this is going on... thereby removing my ability to ask declarer what is line of play. Moreover, Dr. Todd do not take this opportunity to ASK declarer what is line of play thereby establishing how this person plan to play hearts. What he also fail to mention is my co-directors maybe 30-40 years experience directing face to face and many many years of online directing. They concur no ui happen. and Yes Dr. Todd I do find you insulting. I think if you cast off you extreme superiority attitude (like asking if td understand what UI means) you maybe find TDs is more cooperative. This is not case for me for I take any calls very seriously and see it as opportunity to learn new things. I also avail myself of my more experience tds so i may learn from my "elders" (regardless of age), and ensure I am making correct ruling. You need to understand this is NOT face to face and other explainations do exist - like miss counting, for what happen in this case. You is very quick to condeme or claim it is some lack on part of td. Tell me do you ever compliment tds? tee hee -
 Maybe it is nice idea to pose common problems and get input so our new TDs find additional adjustment opinions/suggestion in addition to what is on website on TDs Corner page. (scroll down little bit.) So to get things going let us discuss common problems we see. Please remember this is intend as resource for new tds to find common adjustment problems and SOLUTIONS. 1. 1 partner boots and remaining partner do not want sub. Time runs out and this table do not finish board. Do you need to adjust and if so what do you adjust (in proper format please) Assume it is North who lose connection. 2. North is critical of partners bad bidding and continues to rant at p, finally claiming he/she is stupid idiot. What action do you take if any? 3. Through no fault of EW, NS both leave tournament with 1 board to play. What do you do? :-) Feel free to add other common adjustment problems you see... Please give clear scenario and you solution to this.. :-)

ACBL tournaments, Bridge Bucks, all that...

:) Hi all :-) Keylime take moment to visit www.bridgebase.com/acbl Fred outline this question for you :-) When in doubt alert! -
Had we but world enough, and time...
Gweny replied to hrothgar's topic in BBO Tournament Directors Forum
 tee hee actually it is 108 and yes it nearly kill me. Here is main problem with modeling this environment. Number of calls is not consistent since it is subject to many things. like State of internet on day in question Number of "fussy" players (director he look at me funny) Complexity of boards on day in question State/speed of BBO on day in question for this is directly relate to number of disconnects - if system is "sticky" then many players get stuck causing delays AND increasing time per call since TD must manually type in name vs select from list Whether or not vugraph is running for this DEFINATELY effect connections Number of people who is pushing button multiple time. Frankly I do not think it is linear... (number of tds per table) I do some approximation type thing where 1 td (me) do 50 2nd td do 40 3rd td do 25,... 4th td do 20.... since number of variables increase as number of people playing increase and if all go good (like day i do 108 alone) i am ok but in worse case and all things go astray at same time then it is possible for each tds to experience max volume at same time and see 5-10 calls PER TD base on short list given above. For Fishys it is not AS bad as it is for non survivor tournaments for number of calls seem to increase over time AND time per call also increases. ie if you see 5 calls in round 1, they normally subbing issues so it is matter of replace RED player. As tour progresses we see less RED players and more RED DOT players which take more time since we need to type in name and pray first sub in list is at computer to accept/reject in timely fashion. As tour progress we also see increase in number of calls due to bidding issues and also inevidible "they is playing slow" calls. Bidding issues take more time than red dot subbing since we must identify problem, listen to both sides, make ruling and then hope playing resumes - if one person is not happy with ruling it is maybe necessary to replace this person due to refusing to play. At end of rounds, even with consciencious watching you maybe end up with adjustments. This require very slow time comsuming actions click Table Click show boards type in name click execute click new window click through play of cards determine outcome click table type board # type player name type adjustment and pray you do not get call while doing this and pray you do not spell name wrong click adjust Clearly adjustments is as time consuming as bidding issues. and this is hoping you time to do all this things without interuption. Other problem is distribution of calls. At present (i think) each td get some number of TABLES. So it is possible TD1 is doing tables 1-20 and TD2 is doing tables 21-40 and all of problems is in tables in one or other section and since it is hard to keep track of other td without using msn messenger or some other im thing you maybe no idea problem exist for other section. I think it maybe work better if calls cycle through available tds but i do not know if this is possible to code for. I also think our jobs get much better if calls is limit to one per table. It is very annoying and inefficient when all people at table click to alert td to some problem. moreover it is not possible to see (without other click to check) if other td is already in table. <------wish list item) And this is other issue - how cooperative is you players. If they is train to type in name of person who is problem (red dot) this DO greatly speed time at which we can replace non responsive players if it is busy. Going into tables is time consuming and keystroke expensive depending on whether or not board ends when you come to table (board result thing pop up and may result in losing typing but ALWAYS result in at least one extra click per time. Bad clicks/calls is other issue - to bad it is not possible to uncall td. at present once player click call director then we must visit table to identify problem. So... this is all player side issues. Other very important issue is how long do it take td to handle one call? some tds is not very adapt and maybe 20 tables is large reach. other tds is ok for more so it is very difficult to model since you population is not uniform and you tds is not uniform and worse you tournaments is not uniform. tee hee things may go "bad" in one heartbeat if bbo server lose port or one particular country suddenly experience connectivity issues. But thanks for anything you come up with and let me know if i can help you with data. -
;) Happy HAPPY Birthday toooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo you! It is true pleasure to meet very nnice person like you dear Ariakas! kiss kiss

:D Hi Friends, Time for meeting (past time!) Please send agenda items to gweny@bridgebase.com Hope to see you Saturday and plan on short tournament after meeting with fellow TDs

B) Dear Misho, I welcome all help. Majority of us do. If we is doing something improper how do we learn if someone do not tell us. Do not misunderstand my intention. I welcome positive constructive assistence and so do my fellow tds - hence our invitation to give us clinics. We do same to develop adjustment clinic. Do it cover every single instance - of course not. Is it engrave in stone tablets - of course not. it is only guidelines. But we assemble panel of 5 certify directors to come up with this guidelines, then we present it to general membership to arrive at consensus. Is it perfect? no but it is rather remarkable accomplishment considering deepth and breathe of td community. do all tds follow this guidelines - maybe no but at least resource is available. We ask same on this rules thing. We like very much see panel emerge and then present to general membership, and post results/outcome on website. It is how we learn and create resources for new tds. I am annoy when i see non solution general yapping at tds. we is volunteers and vary in skills. Is all TDs bad? no, is all excellent? no... our tds is broad spectrum... but you must remember this They all serve.
