:D For me my wish is it do not say "us/them" for score but instead say n/s e/w then i can tell who is who when trying to make adjustments - (ie not sitting at table) is "us" always n/s?
-
Sorry Jt,... I just do not agree with any post who singles out some particular nation. I am sure if you look at it from point of view of someone who does not speak english then they, to, must constantly wonder what is all this we are saying. To assume they are talking about you, your partner, or your play is little bit silly. Most of time when people get moment to talk between boards all they are concern about is clarifing some point of bidding. Yes I am sure that once in great while someone may make choice to say mean/rude things in non english language but in general people do not. If they do then call td and report it.
-
giggle... And how do either one of these improve/help td?
-
B) if it is me i do survivor with like 5% cut and this maybe eliminate your problem. do/try 3 board rounds so everyone gets 6 boards min (or more) - late fishy is now 1 cut at end of round 3 so everyone gets 9 boards... But if you want to do like 24 boards and you use 3 board rounds this is only 8 rounds... this way if you get seriously stuck for subs tables will fall out and your non competitive pairs are eliminate with 5% cut
-
B) Wish list Ability to talk privately to both partners at same time. ie <--> button for n/s and e/w List of calls who do NOT take me away from current activity Tables changing colour when they are finish - maybe you can use "score" column for this? After all since it is tournament all tables are set same... if colour is not feasible maybe tell use what board they are playing or just "playing" or "Finish" in this column?
-
Very cool Marc! Well done. Let me know if I can help  giggle... no I am not asking to play
-
:) How about this... Set up sign up for team game. Person making it is td and limit is 8 people this way you can sign up at will if you are singleton or pairs via same software we use for main tournament area... you can sign up for team a or team b partnership desk functions same way and when it gets 4 for each team then match is start. if person wants to arrange with select people they can use list just like in main so it is not rewriting entire modual it is only maybe minor tweaks like max = 8 players but it can use all other things thereby eliminating this annoy cancel thing if someone is off line, typos, accepting, etc. since people must go sign up. This also give td far more options like time per board, mp/imp etc

Yes polish club is legal. No multi and Wilcosz

Adjust after all tables finished?
Gweny replied to Brandal's topic in BBO Tournament Directors Forum
you can also look at TD101 -
Well jt... if our only purpose is to bash players then we are no better than people who like to bash tds. In past this forum, bbo tournament directors, is technical, beneficial, helpful, solution base discussion about DIRECTING TOURNAMENTS and suggestions/wish list for improvements to our BBO TD interface. Clearly unless you ARE currently TD or CONSIDERING becoming TD then why this type discussion interests you is more for curiousity than some ability to add worth to discussion. Other tournament discussion forum is probably much better place for non TDs to post. When BBO TDs avoid this forum to point they rarely, if ever, visit let alone post then we bbo TDs are losing valuable resource to improve our skills, and BBO TDs interface. After all it is people who are using this interface who can see where we can offer suggestion for improvement to Uday/Fred, which they may impliment if technically feasible. At present this forum is like waste land. TDs litterally stop directing as direct result of amount of negativity they find here, thereby depriving many people of fun entertaining tournaments. Not all of BBO users are expert plus, and as Inquiry points out most users rarely if ever need to contact td. For them it is just nice pleasant opportunity for friendly competition for x number of boards. So when small group drive off very people this forum is intend for then i think reasonable people will ask for private forum where we CAN ask question without fear of ridcule or worse from people who do NOT direct tournaments here on bbo and offer no help/solutions to problems we/TDs experience.

Intentional logouts during tournaments
Gweny replied to guggie's topic in BBO Tournaments Discussion
Ben is correct. I to do not advocate sharing of lists for it is proven fact that person who is naughty with one td is not necessarily naughty with another td. What I mean by sharing notes is sharing them with abuse. I am sure if abuse gets email who say One Jun 6, jun 12, and jun 21 user xyz leave my tournametn after bad result. then we will consider vacation time for naughty person. -
:) Well Ben... Fishy IS survivor. with healthy cut of 35%. And while it is all well and good to say they are remove/excuse at end of round this do not sooth poor opps who is sitting waiting for sub so they can do what they come to do - play - not sit. On topic of finding your own sub when you are playing this is fine IF and Only if subs are available. Otherwise we see flood of calls to lobby. Also people often are reluctant to sub out partner resulting in crippling delays which mean more work for td, and unhappy players when td, in self defense, extends time of round. Problem at present is same people who are bar for 1 week only to come back and boot for 2nd week bar for week 3 back for week 4... maybe it is time to consider permanent tournament bar for people with habitual connectiona problems. It creates situation where helpless tds are ready to cancel tournament for lack of subs, and frustration at seeing same people return time and time again only to boot yet again. Is it fair to poor person with bad connection? Sadly no it is not. But imo, it is even more unfair to partner, opps and tds to need to constantly replace, every other week this same group of people.

Intentional logouts during tournaments
Gweny replied to guggie's topic in BBO Tournaments Discussion
:) ok FYI time... Consider this... (and this is what happen PRIOR to uday giving us this wonderful autoban program) Player xyz is annoy with his/her partner and logs out. Player knows TD is going to sub him/her. So he goes for smoke, logs back in and goes to next tournament where again his/her partner annoy him. While marking this person for enemy prevent them from doing it again in your tournametn it do not prevent them from doing it to someone else. We all need to keep notes in player profiles of naughty people. If they show propensity to do this over time then send your notes and lets see about vacation time for this type of rude time consuming player. -
One of our agenda items... Private forum for BBO TDs where we can discuss, freely, td problems, suggestions, solutions in safe environment. See you Saturday at 11am in our private club

And One More Question about Alert
Gweny replied to makiigoca's topic in BBO Tournament Directors Forum
:) Note to posters This is BBO tournament directors forum. this is not F2F tournament directors forum. So when you are giving us your wisdom please make sure it is doable with bbo tds interface. Procedural penalties are not possible at this time with this interface. PS - Welcome to forum makiigoca -
wrong decision of TD
Gweny replied to chicoine's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
 Well mike then step up and offer to co-direct with mcbruce and you will see why constant harping at td after ruling is nether welcome or acceptable. Perhaps if people say things like "can you please review blah blah" and then give td time to do it vs keep sending private messages or worse td calls while you are trying to keep up with calls. People who constantly argue with td do not realize it is not that we are not open to discuss - it is often that we are trying to keep rest of tournament going. Generally someone calls you it is close to end of round, you make decision and then it is round change and you need to do subbing, and any adjustments (which are very time consuming) and THEN you get moment to look at previous one. This may take up to 15 min. and 15 min is enternity if you are one waiting. -
Hi Friends... Please meet in BBO TDs Private club at 11am edt on Saturday August 14th. To get to club click PLAY BRIDGE----Private Clubs----BBO_TDs Please send agenda items to Gweny@bridgebase.com See you next week!

:D Hi Friends... As you know ACBL tournaments are "new" to BBO... so please DO tell us what type of "special" events interest/excite you. For example... Anyone interest in team events that span 2-3 days and multiple type of events? How about pairs/partnership events with hand analysis afterwards? What about long(er) matches or 299ers, etc? :-) Good ideas are like seeds... Once you plant them they can grow.
-
:P Actually yes TDs do read this forum but one comment I offer is probably more of them read it if you put it in Tournament discussion area instead of here. However, if you are curious why tds avoid this forums it is because of striking lack of help from our "experts". We ask 2-3 times now for clinics from those of you who are so happy to report all of our faults but none of our good points. We are still waiting and our invitation for you to talk to us is still open. As far as taking test you are making HUGE assumption that all tds are interest in directing tournaments at high level. Some tournaments will NEVER fall in this catagory and I think good indicator of how serious some tournament is is to look at name. What I think gets over look is it IS possible to play in tournament where main goal is good fun strong competition without getting to excite about how formal of tournament it is.

B) Big thanks to Fred, Uday, and Sheri for this wonderful site and all you give to us. I still am in awe at how many FREE learning resources are available to me and anyother person "with pulse" just by logging on. Thanks again for best bridge on internet.

FYI... unless i am mistaken swiss and survivor with 0% cut are virtually same thing. missing players are excuse.
-
Well Ben,... If you are USA or Canada yes I am sureDSL is readily available - but what of rest of world? Majority of our subbing problems come not from north american, south american or european users, but rather from eastern european, middle east, and indian connections. Is dsl readily available in this areas? As in debate we hear when Uday give us wonderful autoban tool main arguement is it penalizes people who DO dial up - ie users from areas I mention above... So we are back to ways to reduce this set of info server wants to send. - If we can get users back within 3 mins then our sub issues basically disappear. as it is at present if you are on dial up and you boot your tournament experience is basically over. And as number of tournaments increase at some point we are going to run out of people who are willing to sub. It is already happening - you can tell this by flood of sub requests from desparate TDs trying to hold together their tournametns. Anytime you doubt this I am happy to add you as co-td in early fishy. I am sad to report I am back to marking people with bad connections to keep them out of early fishy to help reduce sub load - but what can i do? When I keep seeing same people day after day booting then for sake of other players I must take action. Will this offend some of our users? Yes it will, and I do not enoy conversations I know are coming.
-
;) It occurs to me that majority of tds job is sub relate. yes i know this is not exactly breaking news to we who do much hosting. But are we on right track? We keep asking for better ways TO sub when maybe question we really need to ask is how can we return booting players faster thereby eliminating majority of our need/td duties. When I am on dial up it can take anywhere from speedy 3 mins to annoyingly long 8 min to log on to bbo from time i click "log on". Part of this is amount of data bbo server must send to me before it lets me into bbo. I am assuming that majority of this very fluid info is about state of lobby. I guess my question is if we limit amount of data server wants to send to me will this speed up my connection time? So maybe instead of showing me entire lobby it only shows me my friends list and yellows. So instead of sending me data about 3000+ users it sends me some reduce set of info when i am in tournament or at least gives me some option to speed my return to table in event i do lose connection during tournaemtn. What say ye Uday/Fred? do some method exist where we can reduce amount of data bbo server must exchange prior to getting me back to table?
