Opener's Rebids And Beyond In Precision
csdenmark replied to pbleighton's topic in Non-Natural System Discussion
Handling of interferences is not a part of the original Precision system by Wei. It is an integral part of Belladonna/Garozzo and a Wei authorized version you will find by Goren and by Judy Radin. By Terence Reese you will find handling of interferences too, but pity like the version I understand you prefere, Reese is a private system too. Claus - csdenmark :) -
Learning Precision & Others - Part 2...
csdenmark replied to ejfree's topic in Non-Natural System Discussion
I really dont understand you Luke - your comments regarding Precision don't looks right to me! 2C-open - 1/2-suiter My experience playing Precision tells me the 2C open is one of the real strong advantages of the system - I think that is why that kind of bids are frequently used as conventions and in other systems too. Think of Flannery, Muiderberg conventions etc. The 2C open is used in Polish Club, Precision, Blue Team, Meckwell, Hamman-Soloway, Schenken, Magic-Diamond etc. That opening is often used for slam bidding based on distribution. I think your disappointing experience with the opening is based on your partner maybe dont think whether to bid relay for clarification(2D) or something else. 1D-open - 1/2/3-cards For your information Meckwell Club still plays the impossible complex. 1D-open=2+cards. 4414 open in 1-2 seat is 2H and in 3-4 seat is 2D. There is a bit confusion about 2/3 cards for 1D open in Precision. CC Wei is co-author of a popular book by Goren. This uses 2+cards. Cinderella Team - the origin of Precision - states 3+cards Claus - csdenmark :o -
For you to download I have now added files for handling of Meckwell Club System. http://groups.msn.com/bridgeFILES/rm.msnw Some may have problems accessing the uploaded files. You overcome this problem by changing language into "english US" here: http://groups.msn.com/changelanguage.msnw. The explanation is you are redirected to a Microsoft Server specifically directed for your country. If access is denied for you most probably you need to sign in to NET-passport using this link: http://groups.msn.com/bridgeFILES/join GENERAL APPROACH The Rodwell-Meckstroth system acc to files from Bermuda Bowl 2001. This is a system from of one of todays international top-pairs, Eric Rodwell-Jeff Meckstroth. The system frequently uses transfers and variations in opening ranges. Please note many openings are of very different meanings open in 1-2 seat or 3-4 seat. MECKWELL CLUB Bidding Style: aggressive, frequent upvaluing, less downvaluing. Play/defend decisions made by judgement, not mechanical rule. Both players have latitude to use judgement in any situation. Playing strength, Vulnerability, and level of bidding are paramount. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ----- Next to come: Hamman-Soloway Club system ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ----- I am looking for partners: http://groups.msn.com/bridgeFILES/cs.msnw Claus - csdenmark :o

Above the documents I asked for. Rado has been very helpful providing this excellent link http://bridge.ecats.co.uk/BiB/b7/docdefaul...Bowl+Paris+2001 I intend to create files for handling of Rodwell-Meckstroth system in a way so everybody will be able to play this system. Claus - csdenmark :)

I would very much like to have titles for the books describing above mentioned systems. If no books exists a web-site link will do. Thank you in advance Dwayne! Claus - csdenmark :)

The feature "Use felt" causes problems by me. Computer is very slow and sometimes the information I intend to have moving mouse over a name not coming at all. Looks like the feature disables the window feature. Watching a web-site and the pressing for bridge table, bridgetable were not able to come to front. I am running Windows XP, which is no champion system. Whether this is the problem I dont know. Now I have disabled "use felt" and problems are over. Claus - csdenmark ;)

Regarding official language maybe you are right. I think you know better about these matters than I do. What I refer to is second page of "The Rules of this Site". Please let me quote: 'We have members from all over the world playing on BBO and this is one of our strengths. While english is the "official language" of this site, plenty of our ........' I cannot speak polish but due to below web-site I can communicate with poles. http://www.poltran.com/pl.php4 Maybe the facility will be able to help you too! Claus - csdenmark B)

To me the star system is of very little interest. I have understood the stars are a recommendation to me. Good so - I always appreciate someone to help me. Sorry it is not of much help if I don't have an option to say "no thank you". I therefore think I should have an option to remove the star from players which to me seems not worth so. That said - I really don't understand how it is possible to provide such stars to people violating code of conduct logging in as incognito or maybe completely empty profile. - Such persons are turned into black by me! Some of the star players have problems communicating in english - and due to the fact that english is the official communication language on BBO, I think that something else than the ability to play cards in a tournament ought to be taken into account. Those people I prefere to kibitz are those doing either: a) Playing interesting bridge B) Provides relevant comments for kibitzers c) Running the show d) Not making too many silly mistakes in minors Only 2 persons I think are able to fulfill all above requirements(Rado-Star and malucy-nonStar). A 3rd one (goforit-Star) is improving. Others too are often encouraged playing at a table with any of those, and then it is worth to waste a night sleep for. If the star-system some day will be modified so I can use it I would like the star-players to be gathered at the lobby right after my friends list. I very much like to see how many of the bulgarian star players really tries to play with and help their countryfellows improving their bridge. Malucy and KLK are doing the same I have noticed. - Hat off! Claus - csdenmark :)

I really dont care whether IMP or MP. To me only the language(the auction) matters. The test is of course a part of the game but of less interest to me, maybe because I make too many faults here! The real reason I think is more simple - when I play or kibitz a table the settings for that table is automatically copied as my settings when I open a table. I really only need to enter a table by a mistake and then I have that host's settings as mine. Oops - and nobody warns me! I think this, I dont know if it is a bug in software or not, is the real reason not only why we see so many IMP tables but also why we see so many table-host's using restrictions for entry. They cannot manage I see, I admit it is difficult because it is the last and not the first applicant coming to your front. When I overtake host from somebody else, nothing tells me I now have to modify or administrate settings which seems silly to me. Another reason may be to avoid complaints. Once I had set for MP a player complained not many results to compare with. Since then I always use IMP and to me it matters not at all. Claus - csdenmark ;)

Undo's always to be accepted I think. I accept automatically and leave table as quick as possible if anybody think differently. I am sorry I a few days ago had to cancel a partnership of that reason but so it is if partner want to judge of conditions others have and you do not know anything of. - You simply have to assume others to have the same, or may be better, intensions than yourself. This is not a test of individuals technical skills Rejecting UNDO is unacceptable. Acc. to the rules for BBO you can ask for UNDO of misclick's. If you have a misjudgement you are not allowed to ask for UNDO, you simply have to accept such. If somebody ask for UNDO of misjudgement's it is cheating - and game is over of course. I also have problems with notes disappearing written about people turned into black. I am not quite sure whether friends/enemies settings are stable now but they still seems to be more stable if they are made from lobby than from the table or kibitz list. Despite I have typed nothing I this night I found this message among the comments during Vugraph: csdenmark (Lobby): poohbear hi Barry, (Jill here) I have no rights for comments during Vugraph and I doubt any will be able to comment to Vugraph from Lobby. Why no forum participation by non english speaking
csdenmark replied to easy's topic in General BBO Discussion
I am not sure I really understand the problem but I would like to draw your attention to the Alta Vista translation site. It is free to use, free to build into other web-sites. The address is here: http://altavista.com/babelfish/ Once I had problems reading an italian web-site I used Alta Vista and now I understand. In that way I can communicate with people not able to communicate in english. I contacted the administrator of the italian web-site for Quadri Italia bridge system and now the whole world is able to read about this marvellous system. Test is yourself: http://www.playslam.com/bridgextutti/miniintro.html Above text duplicated into spanish, a language which I dont understand a word of and there I cannot guarantee for quality of this translation: No soy seguro yo realmente entiendo el problema sino que quisiera dibujar su atención al sitio de la traducción de Alta Vista.
I have set for watching partner and watch all 4 hands kibitzing. First time I tried South and dummy was the only disclosed. Leaving table and coming back, all correct disclosing all 4 hands. I kibitz and looks through table list. Setting pointer to any player at a table, the table in which room I am in is the only ones I can access player info for. This dont happen if I set pointer to an empty seat. Claus - csdenmark :'(

Following On to Interference of a Strong Club
csdenmark replied to keylime's topic in Non-Natural System Discussion
Playing systems where handling of interference is an integrated part of the system I think it is right to apply. Playing a system where this is not the case I prefere to use Truscott conv. http://groups.msn.com/bridgeFILES/truscott.msnw providing partner with maximum options for finding a fit. You will see the convention is created to be used over strong club openings, 1C, 2C etc. I think using Sputnik conv. often creates situations of misfits. I am very sorry to see the little attention given to defense. In reality defensive is just as important as offensive and handling of interferences. I mostly need to play without defense, the socalled natural defense. I prefere and try to play systems according to origin, defense too. Then I try to use Michael but by definition it is ruled out over strong club openings (no suit disclosed - no cue possible). Looking into the book: "The Italian Blue Team bridge book" by Benito Garozzo and Pietro Forquet(Cassel & Company, London 1969), you will find description of the defense used for this system. You will also see the authors note that this defense can only be played against standard classic system which means it is not to be used if opps. are playing Precision, Blue Team, Moscito etc. I therefore prefere to play a defense based on conventions. And if more players would pay attention to defensive I think the advantage of opening the auction would be less. http://groups.msn.com/bridgeFILES/Document...ENT_DEFENSE.htm Claus - csdenmark :) -
Following On to Interference of a Strong Club
csdenmark replied to keylime's topic in Non-Natural System Discussion
Dwayne I really don't understand your question. I am sure you quite well know that interference handling are integrated parts of as well Precision as Blue Team. - Of course there are other strong club systems - maybe you think of such ones! http://groups.msn.com/bridgeFILES/Documents/SYS/OFF-BlueTeam_Interference_file.htm http://groups.msn.com/bridgeFILES/Document...nterference.htm Claus - csdenmark ::) -
Right Mike - the vast majority of players don't read the table description. They simply assume all tables they jump into are some sort of classical standard. - In reality it is those people we are trying to inform via convention cards and to protect them from what they really don't want. - They tell me so when they leave table after 2-3 hands, thanks for a friendly atmosphere, but from the bridge they are up against they don't understand a word. - On the other hand I also think we ought to encourage them to explore the options players of artificial systems will be able to offer. Your comment led me to wonder why I am promted whether I really want to leave a seat or leave a table. When I jump into a table I am neither prompted nor informed of anything. - How about this, trying to jump into a seat, table description will be displayed alongside prompt for "enter or not". Then all will be informed by a general alert on table description. Claus - csdenmark :)

Dear Fred Looking into feature of autoplay of singletons, please enable autoplay of dummy's singleton when playing declarer. Claus - csdenmark :)

I have been reading the contributions. From that I can see that others too are concerned to be able to play special systems trying to provide opps best possible information. BurnKryten mentioned the ZONE performance of cc's there. I think the ZONE feature is second to none. Pity it is less needed there, really nobody plays anything but "SAYC" and "2over1" there. More than once I have been booted asking partner for Precision-play. I think the reason why this excellent feature(setting pointer to bid and relevant part of cc pops up)is not used on BBO is a technical matter. BBO has according to my information done the programming work on ZONE. Other solutions to the problem may be considered. Maybe things would be more easy if players interested in special systems tried to play against each other. One have suggested me to create a club and as I have understood BBO has a feature calling club members. I dont know how it works, I have consulted Stig(yellow) who recommended me to contact Fred. - I haven't done so! Another possibility might be a checkmark on table warning incomers of artificial systems are played at that table. I think of a checkmark like the ones used for defining table restrictions. Then a special colour for that table in the lobby will be displayed or something like that. Claus - csdenmark :)

To me it is quite natural always to put up a cc for the system I play. I am very sorry not all players feel the same obligation to inform their opponents of basics of their system. I know very well they are very difficult to read for opps. and often for artificial systems, where they are most needed, the convention cards on BBO dont work at all. Pity for that - I hope very much the layout will be changed. To state most of the bids as "other" provides very little, if any, relevant information. Playing strong pass systems like Lambda, Beznazwy, Regres etc. it is completely impossible to give any info about the "pass-opening" where the 2-3 next bids are of crucial importance for opps. I would very much like to have a cc-layout available which will enable me to give relevant information. Claus - csdenmark
