  1. Here are some general Lebensohl-2 "rules" for Advancer ( the 2H/2S = weak-2M cases ): 3NT -- fast or slow -- ( always ) SHOWS a M-stop. cuebid -- fast or slow -- ( always ) DENIES a M-stop fast -- denies 4 cards in oM ( no Stayman ) slow -- shows 4 cards in oM ( Stayman ) - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - So, here is an example where Advancer HAS 4oM ( Stayman) AND a M-stop: ( 2H ) - X - ( p ) - 2NT! ( Leb) ( p ) - 3C!( forced) - ( p ) - 3NT - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Our own Justin Lall ( J-LO GIC ) and Eugene Hung have a nice summary of Leb-2 . - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - The Leb-2 bids are different than for Lebensohl-1 ( Responser's bids over the DBL of "our" 1NT )
  2. The "slow" route is Stayman ( 4 cards ♠ ): ( 2♥ ) - X - ( P ) - 2NT!( Leb2 ) ( p ) - ( 3C! forced) - ( p ) - ?? .......................................3♥= Stayman w/o a ♥-stop ( cuebid denies a stop ) .......................................4♣= 4 cards ♠ AND 6 cards ♣ .......................................4♥ = undefined
  3. The "fast" ( or direct ) cuebid shows 0-3 cards other major ( ♠ ) and denies a ♥-stop: (2♥) - X - ( p ) - 3♥ If partner can next bid 3NT and you feel you have a one-suited slamtry in ♣, you would pull 3NT to 4♣. If you feel you just have a GF in ♣, you would just bid a "fast" 4♣: ( 2♥ ) - X - ( p ) - 4♣
  4. Luckily, you can still get out at 5H ( playing 0314.... when North goes 4NT over 4S ). That said, switch to 2/1 GF so you don't stifle slam investigations with all that jumping .
  5. So how do you make a short-suit GT in ♠ ? 1♥ - 2♥ ??
  6. If you have 2 cards Sp and partner has one, why aren't the opps bidding them ?
  7. Here is a better asdvertisement: [hv=pc=n&w=skj6hkjtda9caj876&e=saq9872hq97dk72c4]266|100[/hv] Here was the bidding ( with a self- splinter bid as suggested here ). 1NT - 2H! 2S - 4C! 4D - 4NT 5C - 6S Note: Responder went RKC w/o knowing of a Ht Ctrl . My system: 1NT - 2H! 2S - 3C! 3H!( 3oM = 3s AND 4 or 5c ) - 3S! = long Sp hand 4C!(cue) - 4D! 4H! - 4NT 5C ( 0/3 ) - 6S
  8. Agreeing to Support DBL helps out Responder. It removes any ambiguity of a 3H-cue by opener. And why unecessarily crowd the bidding by your side in a GF auction? Let's say Advancer crowds the bidding with 3H after a Support DBL. Now Responder has an easy 4C: 1S - ( p ) - 2D! - ( 2H ) X! - ( 3H ) - 4C! Now, if Opener is as strong as purported, he should be able to make a Sp cue ( eventho OP's options shows he won't cue Sp.... probably because of Opener not knowing about a Cl Ctrl... but now he knows ) : 1S - ( p ) - 2D! - ( 2H ) X! - ( 3H ) - 4C! - ( p ) 4D - ( p ) - 4H! - ( p ) 4S! or Opener may just go RKC
  9. Does anyone play support DBLs for the minors ? 3H-cue ( by Opener ) does not guarantee Diam support... ( definitely a strong hand which could be asking for a stop ) . 1S - ( p ) - 2D! - ( 2H ) X! Keeps the bidding lower and definitely shows 3 card support... but, as usual, does not reveal strength .
  10. ( 1C ) - p - ( 1D ) - ?? In 4th seat: 1NT = natural ( NOT Sandwich by an UNpassed hand ). 2C! = Michaels ( works out to be lowest of the opps' 2 bid suits ... for memory purposes; see next for reasoning). 2D = natural ( you rather be behind the Diam bidder.. that is another reason 2C should NOT be natural, because you are in front of the Clubs ).
  11. North's "stultifying 3NT " takes the cake. I also think North should just bid 6D/6NT after the 3D-jump. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - I just happen to have a GF bid over 1H ( recall Gnasher's Gadget )... but I think I would only get to 6NT ( also not knowing about South's seven Diam cards ): 1D - 1H 2S! - 2NT!( asks ) ?? ..3C! = ( 3om ) = 4s, no 3h, 5+d ..3D! = long Diam, no 4s, no 3h ..3H! = 3h and 5+d, no 4s ( note how this shows 3 cards ♥ AND long ♦, something you can't ordinarliy do at this level ) ..3S! = 3h and 4s After: 3H! - 3S ( cue ; or perhaps looking for 3NT ) 4C ( cue ) - 4D ( cue ) 4H ( cue ) - 6NT
  12. bftboy.... Sooo, what was the actual opening 1NT hand here ?
  13. Apriori, I see that Responder would have to go RKC ( missing 4 key cards ? ) and then asking for specific K's which will tell him of the ♦ K .... allowing him to count to 13 tricks since HE is the only one who knows of the 8 card Sp suit. But how can he go RKC without knowing about the sidesuit Ctrl situation? If West opens 2C and East responds with a 3S-jump, West may actually go 4NT ( RKC ) and stop in 6S after the K-ask . He can only count to 12.
  14. You have better chances in Diam than Cl. Win in hand ( w/A or Q ) Lead small Diam to Ten.
  15. I just copied/pasted his hand w/o counting. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - There is also the Meckwell - "TURBO-like" treatment for Responder's hand: 1NT - 2D! ( simple transfer ) 2H - 5H! ( 2 + hQ; replying as if 4S!-RKC were asked ) 5S! ( K-ask ) - 6D ( ♦ K only ) 6H for hand #2 ( A K J x, x x, A x x, A x x x ) 7NT for hand #1 ( A x x, x x, A Q J x x, A x x ... hoping the red suits split )
  16. Then, let's try your 1st example: Responder Axx xxx AQJxx Axx 1NT - 2D! 2H - 3C!( ostensibly a 2nd 4 or 5 cd suit, but maybe artificial ) 3H ( 3h but no 4c ) - 3S ( sort of a "waiting bid" ) 3NT - 4C ( now showing the long ♥ hand w/advance cue ) 4S! ( kickback RKC ) - 5H ( 2 + hQ ) 5S! ( K-ask ) - 6D ( ♦ K only ) 7NT ( counting 1s, 6h, 5d, 1c ) - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - But, honestly, I prefer the ♣ self-splinter bid after the transfer and simple accept.
  17. Responder's with a long Major are stuck with for low-level GF rebid after a transfer. I've shown this before and it drives da flufster crazy. Let's take gnasher's 2nd example: 1NT - 2D! 2H - 3C! ( GF, maybe artificial ) 3D! ( new suit = 4 or 5 ♣ but only 2 ♥ ) - 3H ( long ♥ suit, cancels interest in ♣ ) 4S! ( RKC for ♥ ) - 5H ( 2 + ♥ Q ) 6H
  18. Let's say you are going to play in ♣...at least at the 5-level ( a la J-LO GIC ) your longest suit because odds are it will play better ....no matter what. Would 4NT just be Ace-asking ? and NOT RKC because if you wanted ♦ as trump you would cuebid 2♠! to show a limit raise+ for ♦ and then some form of RKC next. Soo, after: 1D - ( 1S ) - 4NT - ( Edit: X ) ?? EDIT: .. now partner has ROPI : .. XX = 0 .. pass = 1 Ace .. 5C ( next step ) = 2 .. 5D ( 2nd step ) = 3 If partner shows 1 Ace, you signoff in 5C . If partner shows 2 aces, take your chances in 6C . If partner has 3 Aces, I'd still play in 6C ....unless you feel mighty lucky.
  19. I don't know if this will work. Neg-DBL first, then if opps go to 4♠, I'll cuebid 5♠! essentially asking to pick a ♥ or ♣ slam. Another way is as Lurpoa initially suggested..and perhaps better: 2♥ first, then 6C .
  20. I still like to show 4 cards support first rather than source of tricks. If your methods can show the ♦ Void like Cascade, then perhaps it could go like this: 1S - 4D! 5C* ( Cl Ctrl, denying Ht Ctrl, but guaranteeing at least A and K of trumps when going past 4NT [ RKC] )* .... - 5H! ( Ht Ctrl ) 6S ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________ * Opener makes a slam try with marginal values realizing that Shortness-Opposite-Shortness ( SOS ) can produce lots of tricks with a fit.
  21. There is a way to find out about the ♣ K ... by inference : After Opener's RDBL ( showing the ♦ Ace), Responder can bid 4S ( denying a ♥ Ctrl )... Then, Opener goes RKC, even w/o a ♣ Ctrl... because partner must have points there with no red suit features: 4NT - 5S ( 2 + sQ ) = 9 hp... if Responder had the ♣ K as well, he would have Opened ! pass
  22. A 2D open in 4th seat is NOT weak. It is a 6 card suit with fairly good opening values ~ 13-16 ( ths may vary between partnerships ) . 2D here might keep the opps from finding their sp fit and also helps partner evaluate his hand better.
  23. Responder's Neg-DBL showed 4 cards Hts If he had a limt raise+ for Sp, he would have bid 3D!: 1S - ( 2D ) - 3D! So partner's 3S! is a Crtl Cuebid for Hts as trump... after Opener's 3H-jump showed Hts w/extras. You need a Cl cue, so now bid a "Serious 3NT" .
