  1. ( 1D ) - p - ( p ) - 1H ( 1S ) - ?? Your hand: x x Q 8 7 x A 9 10 x x x x What do you define 2H/3H as ??
  2. You have it right... Below is a shorter version of Mbodell's post . After 4S = 1/4 keys, then: ?? .. 4NT = ♣Q-ask ( assuming not "to play " ) .. 5C = to play .. 5D = kickback for Kings Replies to 5D: ...... - 5H = ♥K ...... - 5S = ♠K; denies ♥K ...... - 5NT = ♦K; denies Major K ( NT shows the feature of the "asking suit", ♦ ) ...... - 6C = no outside K
  3. To start with I'd respond 2D = 2/1 GF .... not 1S : 1H - 2D! ?? Then with my homegrown system, there are 2 ways for opener to show 4 cards ♠ -- minimum or extras : 2S the direct bid would show extras whereas 2H! = any minimum w/ or w/o 4 cards ♠ .....- 2S! ( asks which ? ) 2NT = no 4s 3C = flannery type hand : 4s with singleton ♣ 3D = 4s with singleton ♦ 3H = 4s 6h , singleton somewhere -- 3S would ask where 3S = 4 5 2 2 3NT = 4 5 2 2 max w/ honors in both minors 4C = 4s with ♣ void 4D = 4s with ♦ void ... After: 4D, Responder signs off in 4S .
  4. Perhaps: 1C - ( 1H ) - DBL 2C - 3H! = splinter for ♣ 3S ( cue ) - 4C ( using Zelandakh replies ) ?? .. 4D ( 1st step = no slam interest ) .. 4H ( 0 or 3 ) .. 4S ( 1 or 4 ) .. 4NT ( 2 - ♣ Q ) .. 5C ( 2 + ♣ Q ) After: 4H ( 0 or 3 ) - 4NT ( K -ask ; specific K replies ) 5S ( ♠K ; no other side-suit K's ) ...... - 7C ( counting 4s, 1h, 1d, 6c, ♥-ruff = 13 )
  5. Perhaps: ( 1NT ) - 2C! - ( p ) - 2D!= asking for clarification ( p ) - ?? ......... 2H = minimum, equal or longer ♥ ......... 2S = minimum, longer ♠ ......... 2NT! = good hand, equal length majors ......... 3C! = good hand, longer ♥ ......... 3D! = good hand, longer ♠
  6. You can make 12 tricks if West makes the mistake of covering ( w/J ) the first ♣ lead ( 10 ) from South. 6h, 4c, 2s-ruffs .
  7. Playing 4-suit transfers : 1NT - 2NT! ( long ♦, weak or strong ) 3C! ( gap bid showing good ♦ support ) ...... but I'm not sure this is enough for Responder to push to slam . ( 3D would be sign-off; any other would be forward going ) .
  8. 1NT - 2C 2D - 2H! = Garbage ( Trash ) Stayman showing a weak [ (4/4)+ or 5s/4h ] ; Opener passes or corrects to 2S with equal length or longer ♠. With a weak 4s/5h, Responder just transfers to 2H and then passes.
  9. Ken meant to say 2C! ( GF, maybe artificial ) .... one of his pet conventions .
  10. 2NT ( A J x is the "Bath Coupe" holding = you duck South's lead of the K and he has to switch ) East 1C - ( p ) - 1D - ( 2S ) 2NT - ( p ) - 3NT - all pass
  11. 1S - 1NT! ( forcing 1 round ... playing 2/1 GF ) 4D! ( self-splinter* for ♠, showing good, long ♠ suit ) ..... - 4H ( Ctrl-cue accepting ♠ as trump ) 4NT - 5D ( 1 or 4 ) 6S - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - * [ EDIT addition ] : Since 3D would be a forcing bid, then 4D! is the generic definition of a splinter = " a jump over a forcing suit bid -- agreeing the last bid suit ( ♠ in this case ) " .
  12. I think you have to JUMP to 4C after: 2C - 2D! ... in order to set ♣ as trump : 2C - 2D! 4C ( demanding Ctrl cuebids ; A or K up-the-line; or shortness ) .... - ?? ........ 4S would be nice ........ 4D 4H - 4S ( would be nice too ) ........ 4H 4NT - 5C ( 0/3 ) 5NT - ?? ........ 6D/6H ( specific K reply ) ........ 6S ( again, would be nice )
  13. duhhh ... I thought of that awhile after I posted, but was on the road away from my computer .
  14. All you need is for partner to hold 1 card ♣ and any outside K for an odds-on 13 tricks . ( It's almost a 2-loser hand ) . Just open 4NT, if it is ace-asking, then 5NT . If he shows a K, then 7NT. EDIT See post # 11 ...
  15. 2nd one ... the immediate 3D is a stop-ask ( 2-suiter bids are best handled by Roman-Jumps over a weak-2 ) : ( 2D ) - 3D! the 1st one .... I've never encountered before: (2D) - p - ( p ) - X ( p ) - 3D = max pass and I would guess it is asking for a major having 4-4 .
  16. I've posted my "home grown" system before. A direct 2S over 2C! would show extras ( w/ 4 cards ♠ )... Or a direct 2NT ( over 2C! ) would show extras ( w/o 4 cards ♠ ) whereas: 1H - 2C! 2H! ( minimum w/ or w/o 4 cards ♠) ..... - 2S! ( asks which ? ) ?? .. 2NT = minimum w/o ♠ The next 5 replies would show a Flannery type hand: ..2NT = no 4s .. 3C = 4s/5h, stiff ♣ .. 3D = 4s/5h, stiff ♦ .. 3H = 4s/6+h, stiff or void somewhere .. 3S = 4 5 2 2 .. 3NT = 4 5 2 2 with honors in both minors
  17. 3S shows 17 hcp... You have 18 hcp + 17 + the missing ♠Q = 37. Thus, 3 hcp are missing ... possibly either the ♥K or ♦K. You can make 6NT with either one missing: ♦K missing : -- tricks are: 2s, 5h, 4c, 1d ... and an overtrick if ♦ finesse working. ♥K missing: --tricks are: 2s 1h, 3d, 4c ... and more Hts if finesse loses.( might make 13 )
  18. 1D - 1S 3H! - 4C 4D - 4NT ( RKC ) 5NT ( 2 + void ; obviously ♥ void ) ...... 6S ( I can't count to a sure 13 tricks )
  19. H-H-D ( 6-6-4 ) shows a weaker hand than H-D-H ( 6-4-6 ). 1H - 2C! ( 2/1 GF ) 2H - 3D 4D! - ?? [ But will North really bid 4D instead of 3NT ? or 3S asking for ( another ) stop ] ....... 4H ( 1st step = negative slam aspirations ; Zelandakh treatment ) ....... 4S ( 2nd step = 0/3 ) ....... 4NT ( = 1/4 ) ....... 5C ( = 2 - ♦Q ) ....... 5D ( = 2 + ♦Q ) After: ....... 4S 4NT ( next step = ♦Q-ask ) ....... 5C ( ♦Q + ♣K ) 6D
  20. Some play the 3-level jumps to show the 5-5 majors : 1NT - 3H! = 5-5 invite and 1NT - 3S! = 5-5 game force - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - In your structure, how would you show the 5-4 / 4-5 hands ?
