  1. North South 1H - Jac2NT! 3H ( strong, won't bid stiff Ace ) - 4S! ( RKCB ) 4NT ( 0 or 3 ) - 6H
  2. Thanks ...I see it now .... even if West ducks the ♥ lead, Declarer plays another and ducks... West winning the now stiff Ace.
  3. I need help... I don't see a squeeze .. I assume the ♦A is led. West and North discard a ♥. Next South leads a low ♥, J, Q wins ... now what ?
  4. I agree now that 3S should be 6+ . Perhaps 3D! ( 4th suit ) could be "telling" about 5 cards ♠ as straube suggested ( post # 17 ) .
  5. I've seen that too in the published treatments for reverses. However, it seems like 2S could be used for a weak, NF 5+ ♠ because you have: 3S = GF and 2NT!( Lebensohl, forcing 3C ) , then 3S for invitational .
  6. You could try for the 3-3 ♥ split for 9 tricks: 2s, 3h, 4d ... hopefully, East will have to win the 3rd ♥ with no more ♠ left ... or if he does have one, then they split 4-4 ... and they get only 2s and 2h . - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - EDIT ... the point is you need a favorable lie in ♠ as well as ♥
  7. I was the weak-2S opening bidder.... Opps could make 4H, but ♥ were never mentioned. I couldn't believe the T/O DBL ... but I wanted to make sure here .
  8. 2S ( weak ) - DBL Doubler's hand: ♠ void ♥ Q 9 7 6 5 4 ♦ J 6 2 ♣ A J 9 2
  9. Leb2 is confusing because there are 2 schools of thought on the matter. There is the source by Ron Anderson and another by Karen Walker . After DBL of opps weak-2M open: Karen Walker ( http://www.prairienet.org/bridge/leb.htm ) : -- bidding 3NT always ( fast or slow route ) shows an M-stop in Leb2 -- cuebidding 3M ( either fast or slow route ) does not guarantee M-stop -- only slow route (always Stayman) shows 4cd oM ( whether cuebid 3M or 3NT ) Ron Anderson -- bidding 3NT ( fast ) shows M-stop and little interest in any other contract [ No mention of a slow route to 3NT and no examples ] . --cuebidding 3M ( fast or slow route ) implies ( but no guarantee) 4 cds other Major fast ( direct) denies oM-stop slow ( indirect) shows oM-stop - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Other sources similar to Anderson concerning Stayman: cuebids imply--but do not promise-- 4-of-a-Major direct-denies stop slow-shows stop - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - I'm not advocating one over the other, but I bet MOST use the Anderson version.
  10. Just thinking out loud here. Perhaps Opener with 4s/3h should always open 1D .... although not guaranteeing that Major shape. 1D - ( p ) - 1H - ( 2C ) DBL = 3h may have 4s Now, Responder, at the expense of a natural 2D, could bid : 2H = 4+h but NO 4s, minimum ; OR 2D! = 4h AND 4s where Opener can either bid 2H or 2S ( says nothing about Diam ) .
  11. Opp may not let you take a Diam ruff . [♠A and another ... in with ♦ for a possible 3rd ♠ lead ] .
  12. There is a flaw. Opp may lead a third round of trump, thus eliminating the Diam ruff. You could still try for the ruff, but you may have to fallback on the Ht finesse .
  13. Diam ruff in the short trump hand could be your 10th trick .
  14. Steve.... I see you have changed your Bromad replies . The following was your structure back in 2/17/2013 : Here BROMAD (Bergen Raises over Major and Double) anyone? 2♣ = 3-card LR 2♦ = 3-card CR ( Constructive Raise ) 2M = 3-card weak raise 2oM = 4-card CR 2NT = 4-card LR+ (Jordan) 3M = 4-card preemptive 3C/3D = fit-jumps 3H = fit-jump ( when Sp are trump )
  15. What do you think of just "gambling" and open 3NT ?
  16. 3 passes to you . Would you open ? If so, what ? ♠ A K Q 10 9 7 3 ♥ 5 4 ♦ 2 ♣ 10 9 2
  17. Standard is 6+ card suit, opening values ... ie. NOT weak .
  18. One method for the 6s/4h : 1NT - 2C 2D - 3H! ( Smolen, initially showing 5s/4h ) 3NT ( 2s/3h ) - 4H! ( transfer to ♠ showing 6s/4h ) 4S - 4NT ( RKC ) or 6S - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - EDIT: I just found this in my notes for the 6/4 cases : 1NT - 2C 2D - ?? ....... 4C = Gerber ....... 4D! = transfer showing 4s/6h ....... 4H! = transfer showing 6s/4h ....... 4NT = Quant invite to 6NT
  19. 12 hcp and a stiff in partner's suit ... signalling possible wasted values in ♦ .
  20. 2S rebid. You have a minimum 6-4 hand. Bidding ♠-♥-♠ is stronger than bidding ♠-♠-♥.
  21. What you're looking for is Bailey Cuebids . It's simple and works the same way as Michaels : ( 1A ) - 2NT = the normal Un2NT = 2 lowest unbid ( 1m ) - 2m = Spades and ONE of the 2 suits which would be shown by Un2NT ( 1H ) - 2H = same as above ( normal Michaels ) ( 1S ) - 2S = Hts and ONE of the 2 suits shown by Un2NT ( normal Michaels )
  22. You had a good tool with the 6Ace RKC... ( 4D! ) Delay it 1 round and cuebid prior to it: 3D - 3H 3S - 4D! , etc....
  23. I don't know if Rule-of-15 is a good measure. The first 2 hands count to 14... and the last 2 are just barely 15 .
  24. Don't know if it is best, but I'd splinter : 4♥!
  25. Isn't this a situation for Good/Bad 2NT ? Similar to Lebensohl where 2NT! by North ( over West's 2S ) announces a weakish hand willing to compete ... and forces 3C by South ( for pass or correct ).... whereas, a direct 3C shows an invitational type hand. However, I agree that North should make an initial preemptive overcall over 1S .
