The OP said they play Drury, so the hand you show would be shown by 2C! ( or better yet 2D! if you play 2-way ). Or better yet 3♦! as a fit-showing-jump !
-
6♣.....It's no certainty but.... my partner should have 8 Clubs and NO outside A or K. If the 8 Clubs can come in after getting a ♦-ruff in your short trump hand... then that's 12 tricks. Best defense will be a Club lead.... but you still have a chance that the opp with the ♦A doesn't have another trump.
-
Tony... if you are still around, please give us both hands .
-
One player I know ( a national champion ) plays the following structure: -- 2C and 2D are Drury ( 3 and 4 card limit raises ). -- 3C and 3D are fit-showing-jumps for partners major. -- 2NT is 9-11 points with one of the minors with at least a good 6 card suit as you must be prepared to play opposite a singleton; pard bids 3c ( over the 2NT) for pass or correct to 3D. ......( With a poor suit, bid a semiforcing NT ) .
-
East could have helped partner out by making a "Competitive DBL" over 2S : “I want to compete further but I am not sure what to bid.” ( You are not in a penalty situation... yet ) . Partner would then have an easy 3H . Hopefully, you just stop in a 4H game. I don't know how to reach a 6C slam.... after finding a 4-4 ♥ fit .
-
Just bid 6NT over 2NT. You have a balanced 15 hcp.... Partner has a balanced 18,19 = 33,34 ... so you can't be off 2 Aces.
-
2H ....I think I'm a tad shy for a 3H SJS.

What are your thoughts?

Justin hit the nail on the head: " 4C natural seems to cater to a very unlikely scenario and takes away a common cuebid in this auction. " -

Thanks for the correction.. ....I mis-posted... I did say "cheapest new suit" = agree minor, ♦... which would be 3H!. Then, the 2nd cheapest ( or 4th suit ), 4C, becomes = double-fit . ( I corrected the post ). -

With K Q x in partner's 2nd suit, I may just use the following structure to show a double-fit ( which I've shown before... with advance apologies to put this in the B/I forum : 1NT - 2transfer 2M - 3m ?? .. 3-of-cheapest new suit agrees the minor(m) w/4 or 5 cards; only 2 cards M ( Major ) .. 3M = 3 cards M, less than 4 cards m .. [Edit] 2nd cheapest new suit = double-fit; 3 cards M AND 4 or 5 cards m... sweet! .. 3NT = no fit for either 1NT - 2H! 2S - 3D [Edit] 4C! ( double-fit, ♠ & ♦ ) - 4D! ( 6Ace-RKC, not including the ♦ Q -- ♦ Q would be rolled into the K-ask if it gets that far ) 4H ( 0/3 ) - 4NT ( next non-trump step = ♠Q ask ) 5D ( ♠Q and ♦Q ) - 6 or 7 ♦/♠/NT depending on whether ♠Q-ask was made missing 1 key card or not . -

Fred G's style ( from his Serious 3NT blurb ) is: -- Cuebid of "your" suit shows 2 of top 3, whereas -- Cuebid of partner's suit shows 1 of top 3. But 4♦ seems obvious. -
Rebid Structure after 1SX
TWO4BRIDGE replied to aguahombre's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
Not my idea, but I thought interesting by IanD back in April, 2002 : Combine Jordan and Bergen 4 card raises : 1S - ( X ) - ?? ................2NT! = lower Bergen ( mixed raise ) which allows for THREE game-try bids not otherwise available w/o a DBL . ................ 3H! = jump-in-other-Major = upper Bergen ( limit ) ................ 3C! = fit-showing-jump ................ 3D! = fit-showing-jump -
One problem is that 3C hinders the ability to express a minimum opener . However, I agree with the others that pass of partner's 3NT is more prudent. Once you rebid 4C, pard was expecting more. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Here is my homegrown version of rebids after a 2/1 over a 1H opening: 1H - 2D! ( GF ) 2H! ( any minimum, may have 4s ) - 2S! ( artificial ask ) 2NT ( no 4s ) - 3D (no 4c, 5+d; leaves room for you to bid 3H with extra length ) 3NT - pass

FYP ( "your post needs fixing" ) 3rd from bottom should be: 1M-Double-2D! = hearts, constructive

How to find this slam?
TWO4BRIDGE replied to Antrax's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
Neg-DBL comes to mind. -
Here is something from the 2006 ACBL Bulletin... in it's unmodified form : 2NT - 3S! = relay to 3NT 3NT - ?? then: ........... Pass = to play ( Needed since direct 3N is major 44 ) ........... 4C = slam try in clubs ........... 4D = slam try in diam ........... 4H = h splinter, both minors ........... 4S = s splinter, both minors ........... 4N = invitational to 6N ........... 5N = forcing to 6N, invitational to 7N

Another who's to blame thread
TWO4BRIDGE replied to dwar0123's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
2H should be forcing.... The only question is it natural or artificial ? If you play " cheapest " new suit forcing over a rebid of a minor, it "could be artificial" . - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - AK, A .... is not too weak to open. -
I'm glad someone finally mentioned this.

♦ Kickback will also make 4NT as a final resting place. Since suit agreement is first shown at the 4-level ( a non-jump ), then 4D! becomes Kickback. ( If ♣ suit agreement were at the 3-level, then 4C! would be RKC-ask ( Minorwood ). Because of his 2 small Diam, South decides to use RKC to go to slam ONLY if their side has all the keycards ; South..........North 1C - (1S) - 2H (10+ with 5+ diamonds) - (2S) 3NT - 4C 4D! - 4NT ( 3rd step = 2 - ♣Q ) pass However, as has been mentioned, this is "masterminding" ( or resulting ) since if North has 2 Aces ( one of which is the ♦ AND the ♦K, then 6C is a lock .
-
Partner made a Ctrl Cue knowing you were minimum ( 12-14 ) and also was not discouraged by you shortness in ♠ . Instead of cueing 5C, I might as well go 4S! ( kickback-RKC for ♥ ... since 4NT! would be Voidwood, excluding ♠-Ace ).
-
What about 4 card Major and 6 cards Diam ??
-
Sure, 4H! as Michaels works well over a 3H preempt, but what about over a 3S preempt ( It takes you to the 5-level in ♥ )? That is why someone came out with 4C! and 4D! as = that minor and the other major. And over a 3-minor preempt : ... 4C! = other minor and a major (4D* asks major) ... 4D! = both majors
-
Agree... 3♠ should show a double fit. Side question: How do you play RKC-ask ( 4NT ) for a double fit ? ...... 6 Ace or ...... 1st agreed suit or ...... 2nd agreed or ...... Highest suit ? ( or highest rank ? )

Best Lebensohl explanations, ever!
TWO4BRIDGE replied to SimonFa's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
His Lebensohl is what has been described by Karen Walker ( "slow-shows" stop ..... "direct-denies" stop ). Even with Lebensohl on the card, Responders to often just immediately "cues" for Stayman or immediately bids "3NT" with no distinction between stop or no stop .
