  1. yes, virtual exist over here we call them invisible cuebids strain means they have shown something Multi's 2D strain is hearts or spades ACBL definition is . “Cuebid”: A bid of a suit that an opponent has bid Naturally or Quasi-Naturally or a suit in which an opponent has shown 4 or more cards. quasi-natural is could be balanced 2+ (plus some other crazy stuff)
  2. There is another option sometimes which is sometimes good (especially if you always misguess honours) Leading ace then lead up to the QT. If lucky singleton honour shows up or other nice things. Case is when can afford to lose one but not two. So happens more at imps but can happen at matchpoints.
  3. Q♥ then 6♥ if it holds.
  4. It is certainly legal and maybe not even totally stupid to play 3♦ as showing the majors. However, it does not fit the definition of a cue-bid as 2♦ did not show diamonds.
  5. Yes shoud be something like that. But Gib? what are the odds if Thomas posts the actual hand its something like this?
  6. 3♦ isn't a cue-bid never mind a strong cue-bid to anyone who has played more than a week at bridge! I have to wonder if the TD had been directing more than a week yet?!
  7. Britain has already have a special deal with the EU. It doesn't have to use the Euro and there are some other things too. The silly thing is most of the rules for the EU were written by Britain after the war. If they want to leave the EU fine but don't expect most of the good things to still remain and they will only get rid of the bad.
  8. It's called getting the best score. It is what all strive for.Where is the ignore button!?
  9. What kind of bid is 4♠? North is a passed hand and is now making a slam try?!
  10. Usually a 17 hcp 1NT with a 5-card major can stretch to 18. Then it can open 1M and rebid 2NT over 1♠ or 1NT and describe hand well all other things being equal.
  11. Some people play pass shows a penalty hand. Otherwise with garbage opponents can do a psychic redouble and you now can't penalize unless pass means penalty. But is it realistic, how often will you have a penalty double of a 1-level contract. I think pass should be no clear preference.
  12. I agree with Gumperz. The discussion is for minimum hands. Strong 16+ hands can reverse, all 2-2-4-5 or 2-2-5-4 tend to treat as balanced. At least by opening NT or rebidding NT you have chance of being in the right strain. opening 1♣ gives possibility of raising on 3-cards with a singleton. Worst case you rebid 2♣ on a 5-card suit and partner will assuming you have 6 unless they have read the applicable article. Also, there is some chance you will miss a diamond fit but that isn't high on the priorities.
  13. What's wrong with Spring NABC day 1? Cant log in but my wife was able to earlier so obviously possible. Where is it? <edit> informed registration closed at 530 pm
  14. Why are Ghestem type 2-suited bids forgotten so often?
  15. Well that just bad. 3♠ shouldn't promise 5♠ Is there some other bid that shows a hand that wants to compete with 4♠?
  16. 4H defense OK I know Gib doesn't read signals so I knew leading a high card wouldn't help getting a spade return so I could give another ruff was a waste of time But geez I did a takeout double and raised spades surely a spade to my ace seems likely. worst is 2 trick difference as not only no ruff but they can pitch a spade.
  17. If you interpret this to mean 1C has to be alerted if can be done with 4-4 in minors then I would say practically every bid has a special understanding and almost all bids alertable by this interpretation. sometimes opening 1C with 4-4 in minors just isn't special. Is there an alert regulation or a case ruling? out there that says if you open 1C with 4-4 in minor. The ACBL alert regulation make no mention of this case in their reference material.
  18. Edge-other tables works fine kibitzing for me.
  19. One citation of a regulation would be nice. Only one I deal with ACBL no alert would be required.
  20. Double shows values. North is expected to make a reasonable conclusion. With undisclosed 4-card support I can't fathom sitting for double whatever the meaning.
  21. While, you seem to know the type of behavior being discussed and believe you.Poster makes no explicit mention of an example hand. Any discussion is a waste of time as don't know behavior. I want my last 3 minutes back
