  1. Hi all, 1. Do you use randomly dealt deals or do you prepare and upload deals? - random hands, only table options are allowing kibs to join and chat, and requiring permission to sit 2. How many seats were you sitting in? - I was in kibitz while 4 people played, some might come and go 3. We have heard about some problems at vugraph tables (which from a software point of view are similar to teaching tables) in which an UNDO took back the last bid of the auction (ie a Pass) after the opening lead had already been made. If you see this happen again, please note if this happened on the deal in question. - I haven't seen this for us, all our undos are in the auction before it is over - sometimes I will click some of the functions for them (accepting claims, undos) if I can to speed it up. I won't get another chance to test until next Saturday - I have a free game every week at 10am NY for people to hang out and watch/play. I'll continue to use Firefox but I secretly want to try MSIE now. Thanks, Dan
  2. Hi Uday, I'll investigate further. I know we do have undos in general and they had happened prior to the can't_play issue. I was the host, on the web client, from said machine. When they can't play we have not seen it play. But they can chat (that's how they tell me). Thanks, Dan
  3. Hi all, I'm still having the problem at my teaching tables where people (even web client) cannot play a card and it affects multiple people. They have to leave and come back. I'm on Windows 7 64-bit with the latest flash client update, latest Firefox. Also, I still get stuck sometimes where the chat window scrolls to the top every time a new chat comes in. I scroll it down to see the new chat, and it then goes back up the next new chat. It's like it's reloading the entire contents of that window and resetting the current placeholder to the top. Thanks, Dan
  4. I had some players at a teaching table that could not play a card using Windows client (old way). I don't know their OS. Happened to all 3 at same table at different times in the session. Thanks, Dan
  5. Hi all, Just a fanboy comment: love the categories by color!!! Thanks, Dan
  6. Hi all, Not sure, maybe the latest version of the web client, but now my chat is often paused and I have to scroll down to see the appended chat as it comes in. So someone will chat to me something important and I won't see it. Is there a setting to make this go back to the old way? An option would be great. Thanks, Dan
  7. Hi all, Someone was mentioning to me how they thought using the license to do whatever you want opposite a limited opening (2/1 on 2 HCP, respond on zero) is too much of a psychic control. Sure, 1M-4M "could be strong" is alertable and good, but it is not "primarily destructive" in intent. You could alert all responses as "could be weak" but that gets us to the point that should it be allowed to be that destructive. What do you think? Thanks, Dan
  8. Hi all, It's possible my GNT pd and I will want to play some the first weekend if we lose earlier and our teammates are not available. If you are interested, please PM me your email (or post). I don't know my phone contact on site yet. We have 1500 and 3000 MP. Thanks, Dan
  9. Are we looking to start a BBO dating service?
  10. Hi all, I like the logins but I don't have time to peer at the jumbled profile to make out the login count. Can the server work up an attractiveness metric involving: a. exorbitant time at a full table without playing at turn to play (not there) b. leaving in middle of hand (some threshold that makes sense) c. abuse-complaints d. removing players frequently e. how often you play (ok our MP levels icons does track that for many) f. Chessbase also has peer-rating (idea originally championed by drtodd) using something called "applause". Peer rating works fantastic for what it is designed for. Even that other bridge site that is horrible has a bare bones peer rating system (that is horrible but better than nothing). Thanks, Dan
  11. Hi all, When I press Find a Game, I often find myself with a bad hand. Can we constrict it so I would only get a nice hand. Otherwise I am forced to keep joining different tables until I get one. Thanks, Dan

  13. Hi all, Friday begins the US Open Team Trials for USA Open team 1 for the 2011 BBowl. http://usbf.org/index.php?option=com_conte...d=31&Itemid=284 What systems are top US players playing today? 2/1 or standard, no transfer responses or weak NT: 36 Meckwell precision openings, mostly with meck lite responses: 16 2/1 or standard, transfer responses to 1C, strong NT: 7 2/1 or standard, weak (12-14 or less) NT: 3 other: 2 Preempt styles ignored (rarely matter, nor can they be played in most events in the US). Thanks, Dan
  14. Hi all, Suggestion in general. When hostship is transferred, table settings for kibitzing and privacy should default to pretty open. Often in the russian roulette that is "take me to a table", old weird settings get kept and everyone is confused why the table isn't allowing things. Thanks, Dan

  16. Yes, she was not really thinking much and this was just a case of the director looking at the hand and determining how she would play the hand, which is a no-no. However, since I couldn't quote the law, what can I do but shrug. Thanks, Dan
  17. Hi all, RHO is in 4NT, and with this heart suit: dummy: KQTx declarer: Ax plays the hA, then a low heart and calls for the Ten. She is frail, and about 4 seconds later meekly says K..K..K..King. My partner is frailer and was unable to find the hJ in 4 seconds to cover the Ten. I call the director, who looks at her hand, sees that she had 10 top tricks without the finesse, and lets her take it back. Shoot the declarer or the director? Thanks, Dan

  19. Tilt-avoidance is a learned thing for most. I used to cause and be prone to tilt until a few years ago when I just learned to ignore everything and treat every hand differently. You have to trick yourself - I admit I am ignoring partner but it is for the good of our game. Way I overcame - play with random OKB people. They will do their best to annoy you, if their software was not bad enough. If you want to practice self-control with the worst-skilled partner, play random on BBO and challenge yourself to give it your all on every one. Remember in all this never to say anything negative or expect anything positive from partner. I promise you will get better! Thanks, Dan
  20. Hi, Just play as if they opened 2S. That's what you do after 1C-(P)-1D-(any) - pretend they opened and act accordingly. Of course jumpshifts aren't weak so you can use those for better than minimum. And 2N by opener would be something stronger than minimum (minimum can pass). Thanks, Dan
  21. You have to upgrade to be realistic. Keeping the goal in mind is important. If you respond with 8 HCP opposite a 16+ 1C opening, that is chosen because that is what is needed for a GF. Many times it won't work, but using 9 HCP is too conservative and 7 HCP too aggressive. Look at your hand, and if you think it will make game opposite 16, bid it like a positive. Remember too in your judgement that 24 HCP with a major fit is more likely to make game than 24 HCP without a major fit, overall. So I upgrade the 5-4 majors more than the 5-4 minors, rather than play catchup later. Thanks, Dan
  22. Does Chat Manager not require a bunch of clicks while the other software uses a hovering palette with everything click-once-to-send?
  23. Hi all, Is there a way to get a list (and handviewer links) to hands we have kibitzed, using the web client? Is there an easy converter from locally stored .lin's to handviewer link? Thanks, Dan
  24. Hi all, For me I downsized myself a few years ago and it didn't affect my bridge one way or another, to my eyes, in any direct respect. Maybe a change in appearance of any kind has an effect on the other 3 people at the table though. Thanks, Dan
  25. Hi, When I join a table, the recipient I was last talking to is still in the chat window, so my next chat will go to them. If I cannot chat to them because they are at the table I just joined and are my partner, it wastes my time to type out a message. If my partner (or anyone) just became unchattable, can that be cleared to a default (the table e.g.). Thanks, Dan
