polish club international (wj2010)
DJNeill replied to DJNeill's topic in Non-Natural System Discussion
Hi Rainer, I think isn't the reason it came back to unbal 1D opening that it was based somewhat on a poll, rather than particular motivation of the author? Thanks, Dan -
Good to see Balicki-Zmudzinski playing for once. I forget how they were selected, but I think they opt out most of the time.

Also, if you have a google/gmail account, try logging out/in to that via the browser where the team list is blank. I got that one time when I had auto-logged out of gmail in Chrome, and when I logged back in, the list of teams came back.

polish club international (wj2010)
DJNeill replied to DJNeill's topic in Non-Natural System Discussion
Hi Rainer, It's just the e-book, and there is no security - I just email you the pdf and you do what you want (obv no resell). It's 189 pages as a large font pdf, but there are way more charts/quizzes than in WJ05, so I would say there is less prose than WJ05, but about the same amount of content. If you want the printed book, it will be available from multiple sources in November 2013. Thanks, Dan -

Hi, The main value in the book is a) *lots* more examples, quiz-style, to test your knowledge, including competition and slam b) some holes and omissions fixed/explained c) the "Pro" version - aggressive openings/responses, yet-again-reworked odwrotka, complicated checkback mechanism - to conform to today's Light Initial Action environment The WJ2010 poll is a mix of true poll and personal preference of the author, but it is accurately described as thus. Thanks, Dan -
Hi all, Thanks to working as translator for the author, the book is available at my site for reduced price now. Dan's systems page Thanks, Dan

Hi all, I don't like Windows 8, not for average users on a standard desktop or laptop. Get a new computer, and request Windows 7 (they often try to push W8). Check the Windows 7 specs online, and go with recommended, not minimum. There is an XP to 7 migration tool if you have an external hard drive, so all your stuff moves over. If you go with your ancient computer, to those who are about to die, we salute you. Thanks, Dan

learning a basic combination
DJNeill replied to DJNeill's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
Hi all, Thanks for the good suggestions. I found another one after brainstorming: a bowling alley. You bowl the ball (little card) towards the pins (honors). Later, Dan -
Hi all, I have a friend who is learning bridge at a late age, and practices a lot with the robots, which is good. The problem is they have some difficulty playing a particular kind of suit - a very common situation. Kxx xx With a King in one hand, and nothing in the other hand, they have a tendency to want to play the King first. This loses to the Ace (offside/onside) and they get no tricks from the suit. Similarly QTx xx They will play from the honor towards the weak holding, and lose any chance of a trick. I suggested they play "low to high" or "weak to strong". But it is not helping. Has anyone ever advised others on this problem, and what did you do to help? Thanks, Dan

Yep I just say "signoff in diamonds, or various invite or better hands". 100% no problem so far.

Hi, My style is this (use suit symbols colored when possible if word doc, rather than 3H for 3 hearts, 3♥ - use Heading styles as much as possible) Dan-pd notes 1/1/2011 2/1 with UDCA -------------------- Opening Summary: 1C = 3+C 11+ HCP 1D = ... 3y = 3N = ----------------- 1C Opening Responses: 1D = 4+D, often bypass with 4M 1H = 4H, promises unbalanced 1S = 4th suit forcing 1H = 1S = 1N = ... ... *Third/Fourth Seat Adjustments* ... *Handling Interference* (X) XX = 10+ no 4M 1y = natural forcing 2C = simple raise 2y = weak jump shift (1y) --------------- 1D Opening Responses ... ---------------- Constructive Bidding: NMF After 1m-1M-1N, 2 of the other minor is artificial ask e.g. 1C-1H-1N-2D-? 2M = 3crds minimum Reverses 2/1 auctions ----------------- We open, they interfere: Support Doubles Jordan ----------------- Slam Bidding ----------------- Defensive Bidding ----------------- Leads and Carding Thanks, Dan

That's the one. Happened yesterday. I have the latest flash client, and I play about every day so I probably have the latest BBO client or GIB. IE 9, Firefox 7, good connection.

This sequence happens sometimes where the 3N bid actually has 4 crds in opener's M and not even 4 cards in the other M.

Hi all, I'll be at Louisville the whole time, and my pd and I may need teammates (he has about 3000 I have 1600). Also, I am supposed to hit G up for an event. Let me know if interested in being teammates somewhere from Mar 10 through Mar 16. Email me (PM) or you can leave mail for me on BBO (username: djneill). Thanks, Dan http://www.bridgewithdan.com

Hi all, Suggestion - in bidding room when rotating the hands 180 degrees randomly, rotate the dealer as well. Sometimes we do want to practice the same hands with different dealers, but it is more common to want to know a particular hand is dealing in relation to the hands (practicing Drury e.g.). Thanks, Dan

Hi all, OK the scroll issue I narrowed down a little. Even if I close the browser and reopen from scratch, if I go to a table, and the chat window shows at the bottom, if it fills with chat and the scroll bar on the right appears, if I use that scrollbar to scroll all the way to the top (dragging, not clicking) and release it there. No matter what I do from that point on every new chat will move the scroll bar to the top. Side note: sometimes when moving the screen windows it will say that the chat is now in the right side, but it doesn't actually go there - it always stays at the bottom. Flash 10.1.82.76 Windows 7 64-bit 1680x1050 screen resolution Thanks, Dan

Hi Fred, Sorry I can't remember exact spelling and they aren't friends or in a chat log. Was from 10am-11am NY this morning 8-28. I'll screenshot next time. Thanks, Dan

Can't play affected two players at same time. I'm on my same setup. No undos had happened. But people had left their seat, rejoined seat throughout the session. Lots of private chat, permissions to sit.

Learning & teaching a new system
DJNeill replied to benlessard's topic in Non-Natural System Discussion
Hi, I have a genius partner who must be actively bidding to learn a system (BBO bidding room is genius too). I have another partner who takes the notes away and comes back with understanding but can't learn anything with me interatcively (BBO mini-tournaments are good). In each case, it must be practiced many many times so you are actually not hurting yourself bridge-wise from memory strain. A system can be learned, or learned well and you can't afford to just learn it. Thanks, Dan -
Just joined a table seat reserved for me, private chatted to a friend, and now it's perma-resetting to the top of the chat window unless I clear chat.
