Assuming 3♣ is natural and not artificial with very few points, I believe most play this: 1) Natural, could be 4 or 5♠ with longer ♥. Partner's 3♣ could easily be bid on 4135 or 4225 or any 4xx6 shape, and thus we need to be able to find 4-4 major fits. Obviously to bid this way, you must understand that 3N will either be played by the weak hand or bypassed, so it suggests 10+ cards in the majors or a desire to raise clubs later. 2) Natural. Similar argument. 3) I would assume splinter for ♣ as long as 3♦ would be forcing. 4) 3♣ doesn't promise anything about suit quality, but it should be 5+. Like I said, 4135 shapes would bid 3♣ regardless of the quality of the ♣ suit.

Whether You Like It Or Not
jjbrr replied to bid_em_up's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
I said Not Vul vs. Vul (or maybe I'm misreading what you are saying). I suppose I should have said favorable. Sry. And no, it does not change how partner doubles, but it might influence how aggressively you sit or run in order to try and achieve +200/+500. Yes, you're right. I'm dyslexic. I apologize. I admit with the 3334 yarbs everyone is offering, I would bid 2♣. They haven't redoubled yet so subsequent doubles won't be penalty, and partner won't bid anymore. -
Ya especially favorable you have to get both suits into the picture early when you can.

Whether You Like It Or Not

Eh. These questions are impossible to answer. The answer, unless you've agreed otherwise, is that weak hands pull, and hands that have some defense sit. Weak is a relative term and depends on many things like how weak partner can be to double their strong NTs. It also depends on things like seat, color, scoring, who the opponents are, etc, etc. Edit: You say vul vs not. Does that change how partner doubles? -

I admit I'm a little surprised you advocate bidding with this hand after 1N. It's really bad lol. Surely this is the min and you have some trepidation.

You experienced head asplosion. It's a phenomenon consistent with deities and the internet. I'll post a link that references it near the bottom of this page.

4♠ -
I swear I looked and it said IMPs. Hence my answer before lol. OK I see. Ya we have to ruff and then hope for clubs.

I thought the problem was between 4NT and 5NT. Agree with clee.

Eh. I'd pass. Hopefully I'll get another chance.

What does this show?

No ♥ control. Unless responder can't bid 4♥ with just the K. 5NT = good trumps 6♠ = attempt to sign off -
1. Ace. 2. Aren't I always cold if I just pitch a ♥?
-
1. Pass. I'm more conservative than most, so I really don't think we should be bidding here. 2. 2♥. We got some stuff. We could still have game. Bid naturally to show partner I have some life. 3. Will LHO always bid 2♠ regardless of my action in 2.? Will partner always double if I bid 2♥? I guess LHO must be 6-4 to be consistent with this auction, unless you tell me this is only way to show a weak hand with one major, or something. Anyway, I'll bid 3NT. Edit: Unless my opponent is just bad and will freely bid 2♠ with a garbage hand and a 5 card suit. Then pass seems clear!

5♥ for me

I've never really believed in ghosts and goblins and little green men. No one can convince me that Bigfoot or Sasquatch or Yetis roam the Canadian Wilderness - until we have conclusive evidence to the contrary, I suppose. So where do these stories come from and why are there so many people who claim to see things that no one can explain? I'd be interested to hear any of your stories about the unexplainable, supernatural, or just plain bizarre. I'll offer my contribution: Like I said, I'm very, very skeptical when it comes to ghost stories and the Loch Ness monster, so for me to claim to see something unusual is, well, unusual. One night when I was about 10 or 11 years old, I woke up in the middle of the night and as I was rolling over in bed, something in the window caught my eye. As my bedroom was on the second floor of the house, it seemed particularly odd to me that there would be a glowing green orb in the bottom left corner of the window. It appeared to be close to the glass, as if it was looking inside. Just like I learned from cartoons, I pinched myself to make sure I wasn't dreaming. Sure enough I was awake. I stared at it a little longer, not really interested in getting out of bed to look at it, and finally rolled over to go back to sleep. There was no trace of anything the next morning. I'm not saying I saw Marvin Martian or anything, but this is an experience that I don't really know how to explain. I'm sure it was just light reflecting off of something or the neighbors messing around with green lights or something. It might have just been my eyes playing tricks on me. Who knows? Anyway, I still don't believe in the paranormal. Perhaps some of you have stories that might change my mind?
