BBO Expert -- Bridge Master
Jlall replied to Little Kid's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
You can buy them from the BBO store on the windows client, dunno about the java one. Also I asked Bramley and he said he does not think he could do all 30 with a 5 min time limit per hand. -

Silly question about randomizing

did it work? lol -
You just bid over 2C as you would have over a 2D bid in a standard system. So a 2D bid means you would have passed, other bids are normal and show extras.
-
How are you planning to get to clubs?
-
Say you are 3433 or 3442 or 3424 and it goes 3D X p ? and you have enough to bid game, but dont want to bid 3N or pass. What % of the time would you bid 4D vs 4H?

wow, I have no idea what that means Jeremy likes to do/say lots of 2+2 things on the bridge base forums such as cats etc. Bling Blang Blaow is pretty hilarious though

I got in a fight once at bridge club. Not a LOL :P Once I was playing in a club game when one faster player kept poking a more deliberate player, who was always still playing, with the boards after each round. Several times he asked her to stop -- a bit louder each time. Finally there was a huge commotion as he grabbed the boards from her hand and hit her over the head with them. (He was suspended -- I think for two years, but am not completely sure about the length of time.) ??? Maybe it's wrong but that story got way worse for me when I saw the word "her." What kinda guy hits a woman over the head...
-
Yeah partner passed and you had a defensive 11 count with 2 diamonds. If he didn't like your X then he must think you should always have a stiff diamond...then his pass is even worse?

Win the spade lead and lead a club to the queen. If that wins, you are in great shape, run the heart ten, if that loses you can hook the diamond or play for a C+D squeeze in the end depending on stuff. If the heart hook wins, try a club. If they're 3-2 youre cold, if they're 4-1 play for a squeeze or diamond hook. If a club to the queen loses and they return a spade, test for the club jack dropping. If it does then you have 4S+3C+2H+2D and just have to figure out how to get one more red suit trick (probably cash the AK of hearts and then run black suit winners). If the CJ does not drop, you need to get 4 heart tricks, and then 3 diamonds. You have entry problems now so you have to hook hearts through west. Too many permutations etc but basically, lead a club to the queen. If you think LHO is not capable of ducking Kx of clubs, it's more interesting, but I would expect all good LHOs to duck from Kx.

Silly question about randomizing
Jlall replied to Fluffy's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
It's not worth it, you'd have to be really sure. The edge you gain is so tiny from doing this, compared to the potential loss you are incurring if you're wrong about their frequency. edit: Not to mention if it's matchpoints do you really want to get a top every time it's QJ tight, and a bottom every time it's stiff Q? Even though you make a small gain in the long run, it's not worth it if you're one of the best pairs in the field. If it's a team game then do you want to risk win 13 or lose 13 on something that random...not if you're the better team. It's a small enough edge and big enough variance (because everyone will play restricted choice) to pass up. -

lol you don't have to even be close to 50/50 so you should be safe as long as you're not 100/0. -
Hard to argue with michaels either or 1S, but I generally prefer 1S on that type of hand (depends on vul I guess). W/R I might bid michaels.

I remember you aceepted 10 players to send you some hands where you would point the many mistakes they make on simple hands. How many mistakes did you find people make on average? Bleh still havent done them all, thanks for reminding me :) Depends on what you define as a mistake, if you include small signalling things then a lot, if you are just talking about the general concept on the hand and what suit to go after in what order or what to discard, it is still quite a bit, moreso for declarer play because there are more decisions. Obviously it depends on the level of the player.
