  1. lol Don this is the B/I forum, not the "Let's play 6 keycard blackwood in random auctions" forum.
  2. OK so people are all over the place here. I thought this was definitely way too strong for a 1NT overcall, and so that was out of the question. We did not have a natural 2♦ available, but even if we did, it looks like an underbid. Partner is never bidding 4♠ if we double, there simply isn't enough values left, and if they somehow do have a 4♠ call, more power to them. Given that we are unlikely to hear a bunch of spades from partner, I figured that Double was a reasonable start. Once I chose to double and the auction came back to me, I felt fairly pleased to be able to double again. I think this should be a stronger-than 1N type hand, or just general purpose extras. This seemed like the perfect description, and I was happy with whatever partner chose to do. Over 3♣ I wasn't happy about it, but I chose to pass. It seemed unlikely that partner had a perfecto to make 5m or 3N, given that they couldn't take a call over 1♥. I think at MPs, passing this hand is reasonable over 1♦, but at IMPs, it is simply asking for trouble. If I had passed, it would have gone 1♠ by LHO, and 2♠ by RHO. Now if I double, 2N by partner probably should be scrambling (or is at least standard that way), so when partner bids 3♣, I'm still just as bad off, and perhaps worse: I feel like I have underbid by a lot now. So the full deal was: [hv=pc=n&s=sjhqt8dak764cakq5&w=sk8742h972d852cj7&n=sqt3hj54dq93ct964&e=sa965hak63djtc832&d=e&v=b&b=10&a=1d(Could%20be%202%20%5B10-15%5D)d1h(4+%21S)p2s(4%21S%2C%20not%20necessarily%20extras)dp3cppp]399|300[/hv] Partner took 10 tricks... Of course 3N is gin with the perfecto that partner had, but I thought it was a very interesting bidding problem even if unsolvable.
  3. LOL. By the way, did you know that each time you use a Heart symbol, a baby kitten dies?
  4. Second edit -- IMPs, 24 board match.
  5. This is an interesting auction. North didn't have enough to bid 1♦, but now has enough to bid 2♦ after opener showed extras? In general, when the opponents intervene in these auctions, I like to play double as cooperative and value-showing: You're OK with partner leaving it in, and you're also OK with partner pulling. You don't have any other options, but have values so need to find a call. Just on principle, X should be penalty since this auction does not exist, however it is equally relavent if South were to double instead of pass over 1♥. With this hand, I would double.
  6. Sorry. Didn't mean to post this in Non-Natural discussions -- Was aiming for Interesting Bridge hands, but my hand-eye coordination sucks :P Edit: Maybe Lurpoa will randomly upvote this post, since it really isn't relevant to the discussion, and is written in english.
  7. [hv=pc=n&s=saq4ha82dq5ca8643&d=n&v=n&b=5&a=p2c(10-15%2C%206+%21C)]133|200[/hv] IMPs You play a strong club, so partner won't have an unbalanced 10 count, or a balanced 11 count. Opponents are modern aggressive strong clubbers. Your call over 2♣?
  8. Playing with an expert partner in Bracket 1 of a Sectional KO, I held: [hv=pc=n&s=sjhqt8dak764cakq5&d=e&v=b&b=10&a=1d(Could%20be%202%20%5B10-15%5D)d(Agree%3F)1h(4+%21S)p2s(4%21S%2C%20not%20necessarily%20extras)d(Agree%3F)p3cp]133|200[/hv]IMPs, See alerts for the explanations. 1. What do you do over 1♦? 2. If you double, as I did, the auction will continue as above -- Agree with the second double? 3. What do you do over 3♣?
  9. Your partner has the exact opposite of a takeout double. Once he doubles on this hand, you could go around pitching aces and kings but it would still be his fault. Double is a horrifically bad bid, and the main cause of your troubles here. With your hand, you have an interesting problem. I think 2♠ is reasonable, as is 3♦. The solution here is to cuebid, which I think is best played as INV+ with the other major, or any GF. If I had this hand, I'd bid 2♥. To do anything less is a major underbid.
  10. How is 2♥ an underbid? Doubling and bidding on this hand is a HUGE overbid. I really don't like double, and it isn't like I am dying to defend 1♠x. Your thoughts on 2♠ would be true if it were in direct seat, but if we were weak in balancing seat, we'd just pass (or overcall), not force to the 3 level. Regardless, IMO, Michaels shouldn't be made on "very weak" hands. To be nige1 for a moment: 2♠=5, 2♥=4, X=2, P=2, 6♦=1
  11. Doubling and leading a heart. Why are we helping declarer draw trump? If we need to do so, we can always do it later.
  12. 2♠ isn't my favorite, but everything else is worse IMO. I usually don't bid michaels on these hands, but this seems like it will rarely work out badly.
  13. A random pointless assortment of 13 cards
  14. 2♥ as long as I have a 4 card heart suit. 3♦ if 5341.
  15. I usually like to begin to show my hand at the one or two level instead of misdescribe it the three or four level given the choice. What do you hope to accomplish by passing other than looking silly when you overbid later or are cold for 3N and partner thinks you are weak? Speaking of dogs, I am past my dog walking stage... At least for a bit.
  16. Yeah, I didn't really phrase it very well. I meant that our diamonds aren't great, but that we can stand to have them led. In general, I tend to look more at rebid problems before I make these decisions, but I suppose we don't have too much trouble after a 1♣ opener. Partially because the auction often will come back to us at a fairly high level, and we can bid 4N then to show this hand and also I guess losing the diamonds isn't the end of the world in other auctions where we don't get a chance to rebid 3 (or 4)♦.
  17. Not bidding 4♥ over 3♥ is crazy. Now we have to pass... Bidding 5♥ would be even crazier.
  18. LOL Anyway, I pass 3♠, I'm not going to field partner's misbids, and 4♠ doesn't rate to play that great if partner only has 4♠: Club lead taps dummy, and partner still needs to set up the diamond suit and maintain control. When partner has 5♠, they should have a fairly bad hand... If they have the perfect hand, oh well.
  19. That isn't relevant in 6♣ now is it? North is to blame about 85% (86.17% for all the people who say bidding is 80% of bridge), and I agree South has an easy double.
