  1. There is absolutely nothing wrong with 3NT, however I would have probably opened 2♣ to begin with... How I wish we were playing precision.
  2. A♠ or Q♠ has to be right. Dummy has long running club tricks and setting up our suit before the clubs run is crucial. Granted, a ♥ might be best here, but it seems that the ♥ may be declarer's 9th trick... AJK
  3. I put in a reluctant vote for 2♦... As painful as it is, I want my partner to be able to bid 3♦ with any decent support. It will also create a problem for LHO when he has a huge hand, or a notrump opener... I will live with the risk of going for -800 occaisionally. If 2♦ is already used for another conventional bid, it seems logical to pass... AJK
  4. Some of this depends on how willing partner is to occaisionally go for a big number. Most of my partners are relatively willing to play undisciplined pre-empts when in 1st and 2nd Seat. In 3rd seat; anything goes. In fourth seat, the main idea is to come out with a positive score, this means that opening a 7 point hand with a suit to the Queen is going to be a losing proposition. Generally I feel that 9-14 HCP is a good range. 4th seat pre-empts are just to keep the opponents from competing with you. Partner should raise with 10 or 11 HCP and I think this should be taken as invitational. 3 Level pre-empts attempt to do almost the same thing. 3 of a Minor openings can be treated as an invitation to 3NT with a Semi-solid suit, or they can be just like the 2M openings, showing 9-14 HCP and a long suit. I prefer the first idea, but it's up to your partnership to decide. 4 minor openings should always be Namyats... This changes slightly when playing Multi 2♦ or Muiderberg, Muiderberg can be raised to about 8-12 HCP or so... Any other thoughts on this would be appreciated. AJK
  5. I love to play a Multi 2♦ and a Muiderberg 2M, however since Multi has been banned and my partners don't like my 5332 openings, I implemented Muiderberg... We now also open any 9+ HCP with a six card suit. Also, with less and a good suit, the 3 level is still always available. Muiderberg seems to go well with Multi, however it can stand alone. I am extremely dissapointed that Muiderberg is defined as a Mid-Chart convention, it is extremely simple, and all weak 2 treatments still apply. It should make no difference that it has an agreement of showing only 5 and an outside suit! I would love to be able to play Muiderberg in a side game or at the club, but unfortunately I will not be able to do so for a long time.
  6. Jan, thanks for your input, I will try to find the hand and I'll get back to you on it... I think it was the Afternoon session of the 1st day of the Blue Ribbon pairs...
  7. Here is a hand from the Blue Ribbon Pairs(Spots Approximate): [hv=d=w&v=b&s=shdakqjt9632c8652]133|100|Scoring: MP I was South... With this auction: (1♣) - P - (1♥) - ?[/hv] What would you do?
