Isn't that all the more reason for it to be the assumed standard meaning though? And not some convoluted two-way stopper ask?

Any jump in a new suit that you have to look at your hand to decipher it's meaning is clearly wrong. I don't see why this wouldn't be a splinter, regardless of what we have. If we had xxxxx KQxxxx xx - does that make it a splinter now? I know I don't want to make a two-way call that is either a single-suited hand without support or a great hand with support, and leave partner to figure it out based on his hand.

I have little to no imagination here, but I'd play partner to have a splinter in support of hearts, and bid 4♣.

I misread the original problem... I'd have opened 1♠ with the South hand, then 5♦ over 4♥.

3N, I'm just afraid of losing the first two spade tricks when I double, and inevitably losing another two. I don't like 3N but it seems like the least of evils.

I lead an unimaginative ♣K which I think will be right even when I might have been getting a heart ruff.

When playing against a weak NT I prefer to bid Soundly in direct, and aggressively in balancing. I'd pass this hand first, then come in with 2♠.

Definitely not 2♣! 4♠ now I guess, I'm not really sure how I can find a grand here.

Invitational or better, so like 11+ HCP (or the equivalent) with 4 card or better support
