  1. I have been enjoying some of the robot tournaments lately. I would like to go "invisible" while playing, but the invisible box is greyed out on my profile selection possibilities. Does anyone else have the same difficulty and is there a way around this? I have Vista and suspect this is the problem as I did not have the problem on my last computer using XP. thanks. Noreen
  2. just last weekend at a sectional tournament: I opened 1nt and opponent bid 2 clubs. A few seconds later she indicated that she had placed the wrong bid on the table. I suggested she call the director who came to the table. After she explained that she accidentally pulled the wrong bid card from the box, he allowed her to change the bid and left the table. She bid 2 spades The director left the table and her partner, acting a bit confused and uncertain alerted the bid. when asked what the 2 spade bid was, he said, "I think it is a transfer to clubs." He sounded uncertain, but the bidding continued. As it turned out, it WAS a transfer to clubs. We ended up in a no trump contract down. I called the director after the fact. Since the 2 club bid and the 2 spade bid were not touching he ruled that her 2 spade bid was not a mechanical error but a change of mind (having forgotten her system). He adjusted the board for us--giving us a spade partial (my partner would have bid 2 spades over 2 clubs). But he still gave the opponents the result as played at our table. He indicated later to both of us that he erred in allowing the bid change without having taken her away from the table to find out what she wanted to bid and what her partnership understandings were over a 1nt opener.
  3. 1. 3 ♥ forcing 2. 4♥ 3. I overcall 1 heart intending to bid 4 (or 5 clubs when it comes back to me)
  4. My partnerships play that the 3 spade bid sets trump and asks partner to cue bid an ace or to bid nt if he/she has no ace but has a king. so... 2clubs--2dis (showing at least 5 hcp) 3sp------3nt 4cl--------5cl Then, depending on the state of our game at the time, I may gamble 7spades here.... But that is without any accuracy in the bidding. :( Still, I think we would really need a good hand for me to bid 7. There is no guarantee I won't have a spade loser as well as a diamond loser!
  5. ok .. you helped me recall. I believe I want to start playing it as a hand that wants to open 4 diamonds or 4 clubs but cannot as my partnerships play namyats.. Thanks!
  6. Awhile back I read an interesting thread on the forum that discussed using the 3nt opener for something other than a gambling 3nt. I liked the suggestions in that thread but I cannot remember what they were. i also cannot find the thread after a number of attempts to do a search for it. Can anyone help me either by pointing out the thread or by indicating what other "better" uses for the 3nt opener might be. Thanks.
  7. Is it possible that East is not sure that west has 4 spades? West could have 6 hearts, and 3 spades on the bidding. I do not understand why West does not tell west about his 4 spades. I think west is at fault here.
  8. Ok thanks. I did message the director about this incident and the director said I should just assume that the opps play the card posted and if I am damaged then report to the director and the director can see about an adjustment. I didn't think this a satisfactory response. Since I have the chat, I will send it and the situation to Jacki. Thanks. p.s. another incident about a week ago, same director. An opponent lead 5th best in a no trump contract. It didn't cause a problem, but I had noted in this person's "notes" area that he did this another time against me. And that time it DID matter. i reported this to the TD and he said that he would review hands for that player and thanked me for reporting. I appreciated the TDs response.
  9. I am noticing more and more players NOT posting the convention card they play. For examples, the default sayc card will be posted when the opps are playing 2/1 and when they have specific understandings such as odd even first sluffs, upside down count and or attitude, 3rd/5th leads. Sometimes the opps make a general announcement (sometimes including just their system without mention of non-standard sluffs and leads). But often opps say nothing. Yesterday I noted that one of the opponent's profiles listed odd-even sluffs, so at the start of the 2nd hand I asked if they were playing the default sayc card. no answer. So I asked privately of both opps the same question. no answer. So I asked again and finally one said no. They played 2/1. Ok, so I asked further, do you play standard leads and sluffs? This time I was told that they play odd/even and 3rd and 5th leads. Ok fine. I received the information I needed this time. But what about the other pairs this pair plays? What can or should be done? My partners and I have very complete convention cards including a full listing of lead patterns, in the spirit of full disclosure.
  10. I noticed this question was asked earlier and I will checkout the suggestions given Thx
  11. Can I edit a convention card (using the ACBL style cards) and resave it under a different name? I have a few regular partners, all who use a similar style card and would like to avoid having to start from scratch each time.
  12. and with hand A, partner would play a higher spade at trick one (assuming standard count)
  13. or the doubler asked because he has good diamonds and couldn't quite believe the 3nt bid was a solid bid. In other words, he wanted a diamond lead.
  14. Since there was no alert, the assumption is that the 3nt bidder has diamonds covered and there is a willingness to play 3nt.
  15. It might suggest a diamond lead. and if I were leader I would only lead a diamond if there was no doubt that this is the lead I would have made without the question.
  16. I would watch the VuGraphs and find them interesting even if the delay were longer than 30 minutes (AND even if I knew who finally won the matches).
  17. I just completed an ACBL tourney using the web version and here is what I found. There is a quiet beep when the tournament starts or when a new hand comes up. There is a quiet thud when it is my turn to bid. I hear another thud when my RHO bids, but I do not hear anything when LHO or partner bids. still a little unsettling.... I expect the problem is with Vista.
  18. I haven't had an opportunity to try the new version in an ACBL tournament... (enjoying a week at a Minnesota lake with family)... will post here after I have the opportunity to play a game ... I did kibitz a table briefly in the "social" rooms and I was hearing sounds when cards were played... so that is looking good!
  19. give keycards in clubs... We don't know if that is going to the trump suit, but you should bid according to that assumption. Pard will clarify...
  20. perhaps it is a Vista issue... it won't be the first time. :(
  21. Playing on the web, I do not receive a sound when it is my turn to bid... I have my sound level on high... Actually, the lack of sound so discombobulates me that I went back to the old software...
  22. I expect I will get used to the lack of sound as I use the web version more... But I do miss the sounds. It is easy to turn one's sound off on the computer, but it is not possible to turn sounds on that aren't there. :)
  23. I have just begun to use the web version of BBO for ACBL tournaments. Unfortunately, the only sounds i hear now is a quiet beep now and then to indicate a new round has started. I have Vista. Is anyone else having the same problem? And does anyone know what to do about it (I like to hear when a new hand is up, when someone has bid, etc.)
  24. 2 hearts here... opps likely have spades, but we are red and they are white... too dangerous to bid higher and catch a double.
