Is leading an unsupported ace in partner's suit right when defending a game? [hv=pc=n&s=skq3ha42dt7542cj6&d=w&v=0&b=8&a=p2h2s3h3sp4sdppp]133|200[/hv]

The old client runs on Windows so it is useless for me.

2NT as game forcing is a very old idea. In the original natural system about 70 years ago, 2NT showed 13-15 and 3NT showed 16-18. However, I would like to use 2NT as 10-12 now.

Strong Artificial 2 Club Openings
mikl_plkcc replied to 32519's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
For me: playing control responses: 2♣ - 2♦ 2♥ - 3♣ 5♣ playing HCP responses: 2♣ - 2♥ 3♥ - 4♣ 5♣ playing cheapest minor negative: 2♣ - 2♦ 2♥ - 4♣ 5♣ playing 2♥ immediate negative: 2♣ - 2♦ 2♥ - 3♣ 4♣ - 5♣ playing natural responses: 2♣ - 2♦ 2♥ - 3♣ 4♣ - 5♣ For my artificial system: 1♦ (12+, 3-suited) - 2♣ (4+ ♣, sign-off) 3♦ (I have shortness in ♦ and want to go game!) - 4♣ 5♣ In all of my methods, the opener has no clue about the ♣K. The problem is, no one risks going past 5♣ for investigating a slam! -

-
I would treat 3♠ as a competitive raise, holding 9 trumps in total. I would raise if and only if holding an extra.
-
For the 2nd hand, I can't even think of bidding 4♠ because it would mean a further preempt in my system. I would just bid 3NT to play. (I would expect partner to have at least KQxxxxx in the suit as I normally play light preempts. If non-vulnerable at the 2nd seat, Qxxxxxx is already enough. If non-vulnerable at the 3rd seat, I would open 3♠ having no HCPs and a 7-card suit.)
-
North's 4♠ is to be blamed. IT DOESN'T MAKE SENSE IN A G/F AUCTION EVEN WHEN NOT VIEWED BY AN EXPERT! I would rebid 3♠ to show a 7-card suit.

6-5 come alive... what about 7-5?
mikl_plkcc replied to ahydra's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
West should definitely compete to 4♦ according to the law of total tricks. However, I think that East also underbid. He should bid 2♦, if South continues to bid, West should cue-bid to show interest (a simple raise would show no values and 4 ♦s, but not a strong hand). -
I afraid that the 1♦ would be passed out, especially when the opponents are vulnerable. I'm designing an artificial system which reserves an opening bid for all 3-suited hands. If responder has interest, he bids an artificial response and opener bids his shortness. Then responder sets trump immediately. 1♦ (12+ 4441 or 5440) - 1♠ (0-9, non-forcing) 3♠ (I have a very strong hand which can go game immediately even with no points in responder!) - 4♠ (OK, I stop) However, I can't find a way of showing slam interest, because no one has any slam interest. Although I have a way to ask opener to bid his shortness, this applies only to 10+ responder hands as it is very important to stop early at the 1 or 2 level when responder has absolutely no values.

Pre-emptive Raise versus Limit Raise
mikl_plkcc replied to 32519's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
I am trying to play the following structure: 1♥ - 2♥ = 6-11 - 3♥ = 12+ (This keeps the bidding low for opener's slam potential) - 4♥ = preempt If opener has 15 points, he raises 2♥ response to 3♥, then responder raises again if holding 9 points. -
I don't think bidding grand at this hand is possible using any kind of natural system unless we can set up a game-forcing auction early can cue-bid the controls (see below). However, by using an artificial system, I can set trumps at the 3-level and immediately start cue-bidding: 1♣ (16+ any shape except 4441) - 1♦ (8+ positive) 1♥ (5+ ♥s) - 1♠ (4+ ♠s) 2♥ (6+ ♥s) - 3♥ (agree) Now, opener's hand has suddenly upgraded due to the singleton. A slam becomes possible. 3♠ (1st round control) - 4♥ (I have no more control) 5♦ (2nd round control) - 5NT (trump ask) 6♥ (2 out of top 3 trumps) - 7♥ (all right, we have got everything needed for a grand!)
-
If responder has a such hand, the final contract would be at 4♥, since everyone thinks that the 2♥ rebid is 5+ ♥s.
-
I normally open 2♣ on hands with 20+ HCPs unbalanced or 4- losers, so I open this 2♣. Then I would bid my strongest suit (♥), pretending that I have 5, and bid the others until a fit is found. However, if partner bids ♣, I would immediately run to NT. (partner expects any suit rebid to have 5 unless 4-4-4-1)
-
For me, xx shows a fit show I xx.

I found this hand very interesting...
mikl_plkcc replied to RunemPard's topic in Interesting Bridge Hands
In my system: N-S 1♦ (natural) - 2♣ (natural invitational+) 3♦ (indicating medium hand and 6+ ♦s) - 5♦ (sign off in a game) If North's rebid is a reverse but not 3♦, the result is also the same: N-S 1♦ (natural) - 2♣ (natural invitational+) 2♠* (reverse, GF over a 2/1 response) - 2NT 3♦ - 5♦ Responder can count 15-17 (a medium hand) + 14 = 29-31 points, not enough for a slam. * I treat this as a reverse since responder would have responded 1♠ with 6+ and 4+ ♠s if without a 5-card suit. -
It's your call after pard overcalls at the 1-level...
mikl_plkcc replied to akhare's topic in Interesting Bridge Hands
We can count 8 ♦s, so 2♦. -
I don't want to play in 1NT with 2 weak suits. I would open 1♣ and rebid 2♣ after a 1/1 response, saying this hand should play clubs.
-
As the partner has passed, I would bid 5♦ to end the auction.
-
Redouble for sure
-
Standard bidding (assume 2♣ 20+): - 1♥ (12-19) -- 2♥ (6-9) (18-27 combined) --- 3♥ (16-17) (22-26 combined) ---- 4♥ (8-9) (24-26 combined) --- 4♥ (18-19) (24-28 combined) -- 3♥ (10-11) (22-30 combined) --- 4♥ (14-19) (24-30 combined) -- 4♥ (12+) (24+ combined) In this kind of bidding, the combined total for bidding to 4♥ varies as below: 12+12 (1♥ - 4♥) 13+12 (1♥ - 4♥) 14+10 (1♥ - 3♥ - 4♥) 15+10 (1♥ - 3♥ - 4♥) 16+8 (1♥ - 2♥ - 3♥ - 4♥) 17+8 (1♥ - 2♥ - 3♥ - 4♥) 18+6 (1♥ - 2♥ - 4♥) 19+6 (1♥ - 2♥ - 4♥) With 25 HCPs, a game must be bid; with 23 HCPs, a game must not be bid. Over an invitational response, go game with 14 HCPs; over a minimum response, invite with 16 HCPs and go game with 18 HCPs. Therefore, 16 is chosen as the magic number to show extras over a minimum response.

Minor Suit Stayman
mikl_plkcc replied to jillybean's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
That hand is a 14+ (can be upgraded to 15), with both minors. Over a maximum 1NT a minor slam is possible but not 6NT. As I don't play MSS over 1NT, I would transfer to 3♦ and than bid 4♣, to let opener choose the minor. (I admit that my minor system is not as complete as my major system, since all systems prefer majors to minors. I would probably end up at 5 of a minor, or 4NT.) Even MSS is used, the auction probably end up at 5 of a minor, or 3NT.
