At a recent club duplicate game. EAST made an insufficient bid NORTH EAST SOUTH WEST ---P-------P-----1♦------1N ---2♦-----2♣ The director was called. South did not accept the 2♣ and the bid was made sufficient 3♣, the auction continued as below NORTH EAST SOUTH WEST ---P-------P------1♦-----1N ---2♦-----3♣-----P------3♥ ---P-----4♥------AP Following play N/S objected to WEST's call of 3♥. Clearly EAST had intended to bid STAYMAN and WEST's call of 3♥ seemed based on UI. WEST's hand. [hv=s=saxhxxxxdaqxckqjx]133|100|[/hv] Could you please comment on the WEST bid. I want to know if it should have been allowed as per the ruling TX

As the original poster many thanks for the replies. Clearly, I need to discuss with partner. At the table I considered 2♦ as nmf and would also have taken 2♣ as nmf. Given my 2♥ response does it not follow that 3♣ would now create a force and that repeating ♦ is showing 5 or more ♦ nf. Anybody out there play 1♥>>1♠>>1N>>3♦ as weak with 6+♦?
-
Playing 2/1 with nmf are partners ♦ bids forcing or not. 1♥ 1♠ 1N 2♦ 2♥ 3♦ Please add commets especially regarding the 3♦ call

6 card suit, 2 of top 4 and less than an opener = 2♠ Whats the problem again?

YES 100%. Even if I don't play FLANNERY -
Versus 1♥ DBL RDBL = P9+, could have 3 card support. 1♠/♥ = 5+♠ no fit for ♥(1 round force) 1NT = Transfer to 2♣. 2♣ = Transfer to 2♦ 2♦ = Good ♥ raise 2♥ = Weak ♥ raise . 2♠ = Fit raise. 2NT = Strong limit raise.. 3♣ = Fit raise 3♦ = Fit raise 3♥ = Pre-emptive. Higher = Extreme fit raise usually 5/5 Versus 1♠ DBL RDBL = P9+, could have 3 card support. 1NT = Transfer to 2♣. 2♣ = Transfer to 2♦ 2♦ = Transfer to 2♥ 2♥ = Good ♠ raise. 2♠ = Weak ♠ raise. 2NT = Strong limit raise.. 3♣ = Fit raise 3♦ = Fit raise 3♥ = Fit raise. 3♠ =Pre-emptive. Higher = Extreme fit raise usually 5/5 Applies 1st and 2nd. 2♣ is DRURY type in 3rd and 4th. Drury also applies when 1♥ is overcalled 1♠

[hv=d=e&v=n&n=sakjxhaqxdxctxxxx&s=sqxhktxxxdkxxcaqx]133|200|Scoring: IMP East opened 5♦ South bids DBL. pulled to the hopeless 6♣. Down 2 for a loss of 11IMP. [/hv]. North argued that South (me) was too weak for a DBL. Well, I'm not so sure! hence the post. Thanks for your replies to this one---

Pass but tempted to bid 1♦

Thanks for the posts to date. Is there a consensus here? DBL = Solid opener likely 3 card support 2NT = Minimum or Good opening with 4 card support 3♥= Solid opener with 4 card support Did I get it right? If so, 2NT does not solve the problem with this hand. Responder will sign off in 3♥ fearing the minimum raise.

Whose 'interpretation' of UI should I consider? My dog's? The reason I brought this thread up was this little doozy: [hv=d=e&n=sxxhk9xxdxxxxckxx&w=skt9xhxxxda9xcjt9&e=shaqxxdkqjtxxcaxx&s=saj8xxxxhjtdcqxxx]399|300|Scoring: MP[/hv] East opened 1♦ and South opened 3♠. A very pregnant pass from West was shortly followed by FIVE remarkable diamonds by East. I guess NS was a bit in shock, because here's how they defended it: 1. ♥J lead (so far so good) 2. ♦K - held in hand (oops) 3. ♦ to board 4. ♣J covered (!) 5. ♥A 6. ♥ to North 7. ♦ return won in hand. 8. Last trump drawn. 9. ♣ lost to South who now tries to cash the 10. ♠A ruffed +600. After the hand I posted this. I also told NS that I didn't think I could unilaterally take an action as the director here. What's kind of unfair is that the NS that bid the 3N later were the victims here. Everyone learned something yesterday. Phil. Your missing my point. No 1 table should be held to a "higher" level of conduct than any other. You are imposing that standard on the table your kibitzing but no others. Find something else to do when your game is running! Big Brother has no place at the table.

Are you seriously suggesting you are going to scrutinize 1 table and subject them to your interpretation of UI. What about the other tables?. This seems wacko to me.

[hv=d=s&v=b&s=saxxhqjxxdxcaktxx]133|100|Scoring: MP 1♣ 1♠ X 2♠ ?[/hv] Anybody play a DBL here to show this hand?. If so please expand.

I likely would lead club. The last card I lead is the DA...yes I would lead a small one before the ACE

Playing Walsh 1♥ shows an unbalanced pattern, typically 54 at least. With a balanced hand you would rebid in NT. I♥ is 100% non forcing, limited to about 16 points. Bid 2♥ with 17+ to create a force.

[hv=d=w&v=n&n=s8hj643d9875caj53&s=sakqt32ha7dack976]133|200|Scoring: IMP West leads the K♥. Whats the best line to make 6♣[/hv]

If 1NT shows less than and opener with 5/4 either way then 2NT shows at least 5/5 Both are limited to about 11/12 points. I'm not buying the 'oops' arguement my partner is way too good for that. He's making some sort of forward going bid my best guess is 5-4-0-4 and I'm banking on a max. AJT9x AT9x - QJTx.

By my standards South has a pass. After a 1♦ opener my hand gets better. Good enough for 3NT. On the actual auction North's pass seems a bit tame. Both N and S could have done better I rate it about 60/40 on South.

Would you also sign off with Qxx Kxxxxx Qx Kx? or Axx Qxxxx Qx Qxx? or Qx Kxxxxx Qx Kxx? Wouldn't you bid 4♦ Last Train with all of those hands? Its not in my toolbox. :)
