  1. If I were East I would overcall 2♦, it is such a good space stealing bid, and green v red. As South I play weak jump shifts and this is perfect so 2♠ West has been hoist by his choice of x. He must bid 2N over 2♦ I would grade my hand as 18 and bid 1N 15-18 bal if available I think East may be worth 3♦
  2. If i'm playing lebensohl properly, there is no circumstance that permits me to pass 2N I would bid 3N (denying a stopper), partner should pull to 4♣ with no stopper, I correct to 4♦
  3. [hv=pc=n&n=sakjt63h864daq82c&d=e&v=0&b=14&a=3cpp]133|200[/hv] I vote for double. There is a good chance partner has a suitable hand to pass, if he bids 3♦ I pass 3♥ I bid 3♠
  4. Please use the hand editor Its not hard The hand you have written does not contain 6 spades
  5. Sorry when did lying by a few points or 1 card length become a psyche? A psyche is opening 1S in 3rd with xx-xxxx-xxxx-xxx and a few points. A gross mis direction
  6. My partner has a penalty double of 1N, the way I play, this is any 15+ hand. He could have a ♠ void and be planning to tell me about his massive ♥ suit next bid. Clearly, we expect the bidding to go: S pass W 2♣ N pass or dbl E 2♥ Now we are in a pickle, do we pass and pass partners double? I believe I committed to respect all penalty doubles by partner, when I passed. It seems to me that if I bid 2♠ immediately, I am warning partner that we may not have the balance of the points. If I bid 2♠ now I am saying that I think this could be more rewarding than a penalty dbl. I think my long spades and short hearts justify the action bid. If 2♥ is down and 4♠ can't make, I apologise and move on.
  7. I know I’m old fashioned in this but this is a 3♦ rebid and it replaces the acol 2. Weaker hands with a running seven card suit can rebid 3N. Otherwise rebid 2♦ I have never missed a game rebidding 2♦ with a 6 carder and 16hcp
  8. Today I got the VOICE button but now connection to VOICE server fails I hope that it is supposed to be rated for more than 1000 connections!
  9. This does not help for teaching tables and you cannot chat with commentator but better than nothing
  10. Interesting. I went to the vugraph from the link on Bridgebase.com site and got a working VOICE on England match. I do not get the button when I go to Bridgebase.com/v3 login and go to vugraph
  11. I use the Chrome browser and the new v3 software, but I cannot see the VOICE button on teaching tables or vugraph. I tried using Edge and I could see the button but I could not hear the speaker. Is there a set of trouble-shooting tips available or any ideas why I have this problem
  12. I think you need to discuss the meaning of direct 3 level bids. I would advocate for 3♣ puppet stayman 3♦ GF 6+♦ 3♥ and 3♠ GF splinter with 3 cards in the other major After 2♠ 3♣ any bid other than pass or 3♦ is GF with 6+♣
  13. I play Lucas and multi. I think they are possibly less useful in 4th than intermediate 2s
  14. Does anyone use different two bids in 4th seat? I am wondering whether it is better to revert to old school strong twos
  15. How much extra effort is it to tell us the range of the NT bid? In general, I think you should pass unless you have 4♠, in which case you bid 2♠ One thing I have noticed, when people make a bid where the meaning has not been agreed, is a tendency to assign the meaning they want it to have, instead of looking at it from partners viewpoint. I think it is a reasonable agreement to have all doubles after a 1N opener or overcall to be for penalties In this situation, where partner can have anything from zero to slam going with 4 spades and a heart void, you should bid 2♠ and await developments
  16. "8 out of 18 who played this failed to reach the easy 4s game" Poll the 10 who bid to 4♠. I bet at least 9 bid 4♠ on the first round. Playing 2N as a lebensohl style puppet to 3c certainly helps, a strong hand with a good heart stop can double 2♥, partner will not leave it in. It is a interesting topic but let down by a bad example hand
  17. To be clear I agree that 4♦ is forcing whether bid direct or via 3♠. I just think that 3♠ is pushing partner to bid 3N on a hand he may not feel comfortable with. After all he has had the chance to bid 2 or 3N and not taken it and there is no guarantee that the A♠ is with the 2♣ bidder. I would be very surprised anyway if partner actually bid 3N as that would surely imply opps have 9+ spades and not mentioned them. At pairs scoring I might be tempted to gamble on 3N +1, but at imps I am thinking, yes there are hands where 3N makes and 5♦ fails, but there are also hands where 3N fails by a lot and 5♦ only fails by one.
  18. After 3♠ 3N, I do not believe we can pass. Surely, partner could have bid 2N instead of 3♦ or even 3♣. BTW would 3♣ show or deny a stopper or is it a GF ♦ raise? Partner could also have bid 4♣ as a splinter So slam does seem to require a bit of luck, but I agree with those who bid 3♠ and 4♦ after 3N [hv=pc=n&n=sjhkqj72dajt2cq93]133|100[/hv] This seems consistent with partner's bidding and 4♦ is the limit Of course I do wonder why opps have not bid ♠, but maybe East has all opps points and West does not feel able to bid his 6 card suit. However, passing 3N is still too rich for my taste.
  19. My tongue was firmly in my cheek! But in the context of junior internationals, I would expect someone to open 2♠ :D
  20. Goulash does not change anything about the hand. Your expectation is that East has a big hand with short spades, 5 has a very specific meaning, "partner I have 11 tricks and I am missing two of top 3 spade honours", so you can open the hand 1♠, 4♠ or 6♠ Personally, I open 6 and let opps guess.
  21. My main surprise is that neither North was playing a system that allowed them to open 2♥ Also a wee bit surprised that neither East saw fit to double Finally, isn't the South hand a classic 3rd hand weak 2?
  22. Kudos to West for leading the lower card of a doubleton and kudos to Cyberyeti for finding the only way to go off in a cold contract? The T♦ is an interesting choice... If you take it at face value East has QJT87 and West 96 I assume that all the pips are shown correctly?
  23. My partner will open 1N, but lets assume we play strong NT. they have found an 8 card fit presumably South has x xxxx xxx xxxxx and North xxxx xxx xxx xxx There are not enough Spades! Someone is lying, so actually partner cannot have this "worst case scenario" hand The actual hand shown now represents appalling bidding by NS! A double with 13 hcp and a 3442 shape is just wrong and passing the xx with two 4 card suits is equally bad. Neither would be my partner for long.
  24. 1 Absolutely textbook xx 2 4♠ is a hand with 7+ suit that was too good to preempt as opener. Partner knows the scoring and thinks that 620 is a better score than what can be achieved doubling opps at the 2 level. eg ♠AKQJxxx xx xx Kx If 4♠ fails he should apologise to partner and move on. 3-6 I expect partner to pass with any other hand. The redouble is designed to put opps on the ropes, bidding lets them off If East bids a red suit I will double. If East bids 2♣, I pass in the hope that partner can double Dealer's second pass is telling. He cannot pick a suit so he has 4-5♠ and no other 4 card suit
