You are on lead. Which card would you play? Why?
nekthen replied to arepo24's topic in Interesting Bridge Hands
A trump lead is dubious. If opps diamonds are solid, why did he not open 3N? I think I try the K♣, the ace rates to be in dummy or with partner so may be the best chance to defeat the contract if declarer has a major void -

Benji Two vs. Weak 2 Diamonds
nekthen replied to Dinarius's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
Benji came about because of weak 2s. The idea was to replace Acol Strong 2s with 2♣ and the ultra strong 2♣ with 2♦. Standard French does something similar. I think it is better to open strong 2s at the one level, this does mean that you should respond with most 5 counts. I have recently started using an Ekren style 2♦ and it seems very effective and i prefer it to the multi lucas option. For me 2♦ is either a weak hand, at least 45 in majors or 19-20 balanced as this retains the option of having 4 ways to open strong balanced hands 2♦ 19-20 2N 21-22 2♣ 23-24 2♣ 2♦ 2♥ 2♠ (forced) 2N 25+ -
I used to play that 2N was only forcing bid after a weak 2. I have now been persuaded that it is better to have all bids forcing. This is a good hand for the "show a feature" school as 2♠- 2N - 3♦ means NT is the only denomination to consider and all you can do is pick 3 or 6. If North is dealer surely start 2♣-2♦-2♥-2♠-3♣-3♠ and we are in the same pickle pick 3N or 6N

Declarer play puzzle for I/A
nekthen replied to ahydra's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
Equally I do not see why West switches, ruffing a club in hand does not help South -
Declarer play puzzle for I/A
nekthen replied to ahydra's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
I do not see why you assume 10♦ with West. The ♦ switch looks normal and you would lead the J from any holding so as not to confuse partner holding KT -
I play with the robot lol 6♠ is clearly the best contract. You do not want to be in NT on a ♦ lead
-
I guess 6♥ is the only making slam. It is certainly most likely make, but can you honestly bid to it knowing that you have all 5 honours which you need for a high ruff and cope with 4-2 break? I will stay with the pessimists in 3N

Has anyone read this? Is it worth a look?

I was more wondering if we should go via 4N to check on 6

Making use of 3♠ 4♣ and 4♦ is surely the say to go. Keeping it simple, let 3♠ be both minors and 4♣ and 4♦ be natural and forcing setting the trump suit. You can even make them minorwood.

To bid or not to bid :)

With Flat hands you need 34 hcp to make 6N Mainly North -

I doubt I'd bid more than 4♠ over 4♥ -

Partner does not have to just bid 4♠ He could try an asking bid of 3♣ now you can help so bid 4♠ and again, I think partner has enough to bid 6 -

If my partner bids 4♠ I bid 6 -
The squeeze depends on the KS being offside, so it is no better than taking the spade finesse unless West has bid spades

Problem of bidding
nekthen replied to 120248's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
I think we all agree with 1♦! In response I like 2♥, though not sure I would find it, 1♥ or pass is a toss up. After 1♥ I would go 2♠ I think the extra diamonds compensate for lack of points. Now, as responder, I can show a weak hand via 2N 3♣ 3♦ If it goes 1♠ I think partner has to bid 2♦. It is ok to stretch by bidding once but 1N or 2♥ show better hands. -
On the face of it a bad bid comes good, that happens. We do not know the context. May be a "Hail Mary" dictated by the need for a top.
-
Does it need a name? East should actually bid 6♣ as West is absolute minimum for this bid East can also bid 4♣ as minorwood to confirm trump situation 4♣ 4♥ 4♠ 5♦ 6♣

I hope that these will be free Will it be country restricted or do we have to prove ebu membership Not sure that master points are necessary or even desirable

The nightmare scenario. Anything can work I pass and hope partner has 5♦
