  1. This happens on bbo a lot. Patzers know about takeout doubles but cannot resist doubling with a trump stack. You as their partner know what is going on because you have short trumps and oppo did not raise. My question is do you attempt to school your partner and bid normally or pass for an undeserved top? In a random individual tourney I think I would pass. I also fill in a note on partner in case he ever asks me to partner him!

  4. Although we have a fabulous club suit, we are too weak to bid over 2 ♦. The old don’t preempt a preempt rule applies. If we hear partner freely bid a major we can bid game. If he bids 2N, we can bid 3 and if he doubles we can bid 5♣. Of course, opps might raise the ante with 4♦, but I’d still feel more confident about my bidding on the next round if I pass first time.
  5. Another ambiguous question. Sort out your English people! Q. 1 is the bidding sequence asking for a heart stop? A. 1 Yes Q. 2 Am I certifiably insane for using that sequence with the hand shown? A. 2 Yes
  6. Perhaps people should take the time to review the question they ask, to make sure it makes sense. They should also check that a reasonable reader could only see one meaning to the question.
  7. While on the obvious, do cash the A♥ first.
  8. 13 out 14 bid a 22 point 3N contract? I don’t believe it! Deserves to lose 4 spade tricks and the A♦! -300 does not look so clever against -150
  9. Pass. All sorts of bad things might be happening here. I can "see" 13-17 hcp, where are the rest? I can imagine partner passes with 14 hcp and 5h and rho passes with 2h and 10hcp. This may well be the last opportunity for a positive score.
  10. OK I agree with the passers. Partner looks to be 3622 or 4612. If his minors are better he should pass or bid 2♦. If he was really good he could have bid 2♠ I am also with the openers this is 28 Zar points and you have an easy rebid
  11. I think I'd open this in 3rd. 1N for me or 1♣ when I must. The difference is I don't have to bid again so I can pass whatever partner bids. I might even open 1♠ playing sayc
  12. I am with the conservatives (at bridge) A 12 count with two suits wide open and no tens and 4333 I pass and will smile at the scores as games go down all around If partner can open we will find our game, if he can't, I may lose out to those who make a part score, but I win against those who go down and against opps who make something when they overcall with a light hand they would not have opened
  13. 4♣ and 4♦ both show 4-4 majors generally 4♣ shows slam interest and 4♦ is weak A basic tenet of using RKCB is that the response can never be ambiguous. If that is possible, you do not know enough about the hand to be launching a slam investigation
  14. I go for hearts declarer can easily be qxxx
  15. Difficult. xx in Hearts stops East bidding 6. I am passing as West I think 3 aces is worth the risk of doubling. So hopefully my partner is content to bid 5♣
  16. [hv=pc=n&n=s875hkj43dk2cqjt9]133|100[/hv] My understanding is that the Drury hand has the values for 3♠ but is worried that partner may have opened light. Opps are going to take 4 tricks off the top in 4♠ and the first 7 against 3N if the A♦ is wrong. What is clear is that the 3N contract will be played from the wrong side. I voted for 4♠ but given the choice I will settle for 2♠ (Partner I did indeed have a regular 1♠ opener) May I humbly suggest you give up Drury? If partner has indeed opened light why was 4th seat silent? These days if partner is weak he is much more likely to open 2♠ as it is more preemptive and partner as a passed hand will likely keep quiet
  17. Please sort out history to show We They scoring not NS EW scoring It is really difficult especially in a tournament when you are not always the same polarity
  18. I do not see any argument over A; clear 1♣. Replace the tens with x and I am passing. B is more interesting. I strain to bid in 3rd if I have spades, but here we are not really hurting them by bidding. They might even reach a spade game that could have been passed out. It seems most likely that they have a NT contract or it will be passed out. Against NT I will lead a spade, if partner is on lead, I want him to lead his best suit, not ♦ so I am passing. I can also see 1♦ p 1♥ p 1N or 1♦ p 1♥ p 1♠ p 1[N] going off 4th seat may even come to life and axe you
  19. Best bidder at the table was North! Followed by East
  20. Really? You expect me to double for takeout with this rubbish? Not happening! My partner has some sort of heart stack and East has pushed his luck hoping that -1 gets him a better result than 1N making +1 or he has dreams of making. It may be something like KQJxxx vs A10xxx. I have a simple rule. If we have bid 1N overcall any subsequent double is for penalties If opps make then that's what happens when you make marginal decisions at pairs"If all your doubles succeed at pairs, you are not doubling often enough". If the scoring were imps I would still pass and expect my partner to have 6 tricks in his own hand
  21. I do not think I am in a forcing pass situation. I agree with cherdano that you want to compete with less than 11 with a good suit. This means it is necessary for North to double. You expect partner to be providing 2 tricks for his opening and you expect 2 from your holding and no reason to suppose we have game ourselves
  22. So the way to get this contract down, is the even more unusual lead of a low diamond, trusting partner to put in the ten if dummy plays low?
  23. Was this a regular partner or a bbo random? A regular partner needs to know that with a stronger hand with spade support you would bid 3♣ or 4♣ eg another K and Q would be a minimum Many bbo randoms will bid game with strong hands with or without interference because they do not know how to play or they do not trust their random p to recognise a GF bid
