  1. 3♦ seems right in terms of value. You need to agree whether partner's 3M is showing a stopper or asking. I play transfers, so the problem does not arise. Whatever p bids, I can bid 2♦
  2. I dont get 2♠ bid. Surely 2♥ is correct? Or does a red suit bid imply less than 2♠? So West has ♠KHxxxx(x), ♥AT(5), ♦KJ(x), ♣KQ(x) I think West has 6♠ otherwise he bids 3/4♠ I also think West has 3♥ otherwise i do not see the point of 2♣ bid So I am playing A♠ and a♥. Doubtless it does not work!
  3. El Mister beat Nekthen http://webutil.bridgebase.com/v2/tview.php?t=ARDCHALLENGE:68c156b7.da65.11e7.a200.0cc47a39aeb4-1512551474&u=nekthen
  4. I bet you all prefer text based computers as well
  5. Once I worked out that the results are in history tab, I was happy with the upgrade
  6. South has many available bids. The "say nothing bid" is 3♦, therefore 3♠ shows a 5th ♠ and assuming normal natural bidding 6♦
  7. I prefer not to bid dbl without 4♠, but 2♥ looks ok. 2♠ 3♣ (another force) 3♠ Now what? South has shown 5♠ and 6♦ and we are surely in a GF situation. North can therefore bid 4♦ to set ♦ as trumps, so 4♣ must be a cue bid agreeing ♠ as trumps. Now 4♥ by South must be a void, as he would have bid 2N, holding A♥, 4N 5♦ 5N (all key cards are held) 7♠ The key bid is that 4♥ shows a void, allowing 5N to be bid, without the A♥ I will be showing this one to my regular partners!

  9. I open 1N with a 5 card major and 5332 or even 5224 (4 card minor only) I play responder's 3c as puppet Stayman GF. So you do not miss 4M where it appears to be better than 3N.
  10. ACOL is a state of mind rather than a system these days. In my mind, it is a weak nt with 4 card majors. The Cohen Lederer books are hopelessly out of date. Variable no trump, Strong 2s, Swiss, Gerber, regular blackwood etc etc So while there are no modern texts on ACOL, there are several modern versions of weak NT systems with 4 or 5 card majors. I like Andrew Robson's books
  11. I see I am swimming against a tidal wave <_< Nothing unusual  What is the point of bidding 2NT? You are not doing it to win the contract (unless you are very strong) First up you are attempting to disrupt opponents bidding. We are making it harder to bid constructively. Many opponents do not have sensible agreed meanings for double, 3♣ or 3♦ (do you?) Second if opps find their major fit, partner has a good idea whether to sac. If I pass opps can go into an easy sequence to determine whether to be in part score, game or slam. Ideal scenario is we push them into a thin game which goes down when they finesse for the K♠ If the bidding goes 2♥ pass pass, I am passing at the speed of light
  12. Agree with the Badger that I am not leading a club. I do not like leading a 2 as 4th highest. I have seen too many instances of that giving away the position to declarer. Many will not bid 2♠ unless they have a 6 card suit, so I will hope to find p with a 5 card ♠ suit.
  13. It is important to know what jump shifts you are playing and the affect it has on the rest of your bidding. I play an immediate 2♠ as weak 6 cards and 3♠ as weak 7 cards, which would be my bid without K♦ Therefore responder's rebid of 3♠ is accurate for me and I would rebid 2♠ with the same hand with only 6♠. With more hcp i will bid 2♥. With less spades and 11 count I have to bid 2[d] and trust p to keep the bidding alive if possible. I think it is clear for north to bid 4♥ Qx ♠ (opposite a known 7 carder), no ♥ losers. P can still sign off in 4♠ if he is unsuitable.
  14. Entries! As previously stated a club lead kills a NT contract
  15. In Acol the rebid of 2♥ promises 6 or 4 cards in one of the "skipped" suits So 1♥ 1♠ 2♥ 6 carder always. Whereas 1♥ 2♦ 2♥ can be 5-4
  16. 2♥ Almost too good but 3rd in hand white v red, they might make game, we wont. Lets make it difficult All rules should be ignored in this position
  17. [hv=pc=n&w=skqj87hd987cakqj2&e=st962h5432dct9876]266|100[/hv] This seems entirely reasonable and 6♠ appears to be making and we can make 7 in either red suit. The trick here is to bid slam without opps finding the obvious save. Maybe 5♦ followed by 6♦ will buy the contract
  18. So what is West's hand? Surely East is not going to leap to 4♣ without 7 cards and if he did it with 6, surely West would lead his singleton? So no clubs If he has 5♦ then he is 4450, but more likely 3460 and East is 1237 If West had 2560 he would have bid Michaels So we play for West to be ♠ Qxx ♥ K9xx ♦ KQxxxx ♣ - So take A♦, ♠ to the 9, J♥ losing to West, Q♦, another♦ ruffed in hand, A♥ dropping East's honour and draw trumps, take two ♥ discarding a ♣ and lose a ♣
  19. Traditional Lebensohl is indeed used after a natural overcall of 1N. However, there are many other times a leb like structure is useful 2any (weak) dbl p ? 1x 2y (weak jump) ? 1x 1y 2z (reverse)?
  20. Do you play Lebensohl after 2S? If you do then 3c rates to be a decent hand, not just competitive. I think I would bid 3H giving p the chance to cue bid spades, bid 3N or retreat to 4C with a ratty suit At least you did not pass and I agree with those who think p should try a 3S cuebid even with his H holding
  21. 1♠ all the way. I open 1N with 5422 hands unless both suits are majors. If suits are touching AND most of the points are in the long suits I'll open the 5 card suit
  22. Slightly off topic, but as a weak nt fan how would people bid after 1N? presumably you start with stayman 2♣ 2♠ 3♣? Hopefully p will bid 4♣ and we find the slam but he may well bid 3N though 3♣ is a slam try so 4♣ seems right
  23. In an XYZ context, does the bidding go 1♣ 1♥ 1N 2♦ (ART GF) 2♥ 3♣ 3♠ 6♣? North bypasses 1♠ to show a weak balanced opener and when south bypasses 2♠ North's 3♠ bid must now show 4324 as he would bid 3N with 4333
