Well, a bit of googling turned up : Lauria - Versace 2007 BB : 2NT - 4C = 6+ hearts slam try 4D = 6+ spades .. 4H, 4S ditto.
-
I remember some top pairs playing 2NT - 4H single suited slam try in clubs, and 4S as single suited slam try in diamonds, but may be wrong.
-
If I'm not wrong, the key to the whole hand is what spade is played from dummy on the first trick. Its not the usual choice.
-
I was playing with a recent BIL grad when this is what he played. Can you see the pitfall in this play? You will be left with no entry back to hand to enjoy the diamonds if LHO has AJx?

Yes, I agree. To watch the Americans struggle in the endless swamp because they insist on overly patronizing system regulations is somewhat amusing. But not that amusing... Whats even more amusing is that the people decide what the rules are also play in the events where the rules are applied. I suggest we also have them sit in on their own appeals committees as there will surely be no real or perceived conflits of interest in those cases too.

I really love it when you do it though. The best part about humor is when someone doesn't get it and doesn't even know that they don't get it! Good point, +1 for your post count!

You have - [hv=s=s983hkqj92dak6ckj]133|100|[/hv] and the auction goes - 1♣ by partner, 1♥ by you, 2♣ by partner. If you decide to bid 2♠ now, do you have to alert it? EDIT - the background is, I bid 2♠ playing online and the opponents complained later that I had to alert 2♠ since it could only be 3 spades.

With the exception possibly of phil hellmuth and a few others.

of course she doesnt have kqxxx

If you're attempting to deceive opponents by the order in which you play the cards, that's fine, but if you are trying to deceive them through your mannerisms, that's a violation of law 73D2. Do you mean you should look as if you absolutely don't care about what oppos play on Clubs, because actually you absolutely don't care ? :) You should attempt to look the same all the time. Then they aren't deceived. I propose that all bridge be played behind face masks when screens are not in use. -

Wow. Although I'm yet to read your book, this article is a great advertisement for your bridge writing. -
Those who can, win BB and don't worry about forums. Those who can't, well, they have fun on forums.

You need to get a feel for if the opponents are going to sac over 6H. Yesterday I had an auction go - P P 1S P 4S 4NT X 5C 6S 7C P P X -, at MPs where 6S was -1 and 7C X was -800 for a top. So whatever the reasons, if your table feel says the opps are going to sac, then bid 6H.

I think partner has KQJT xxx xxx Axx

I don't think it matters what East could have known when the revoke happened. I think the result stands.

1. It seems to me that the only difference between 2/1 GF and 2/1 G unless suit rebid is that as a responder, if I have a good 6 card minor suit and 9-11 points - 2/1 GF : I have to bid 1NT and then bid 3m. 2/1 G unless suit rebid: I can bid 2m and then if possible bid 3m over partners bid. So it seems to me that if responder does not hold the above hand (6 card minor and 9-11 points), then the responses to 1M are the same in both systems. Is this true? 2. One other question is whether 2/1 GF unless suit rebid applies to a 2H bid over 1S?

In this puzzle assume S is always declarer. Take any random hand. Let: X = maximum tricks south can take in a non NT contract. Now exchange 1 face card from S to E or W, so that net hcp doesn't change for S. Let Y = maximum tricks south can take in a non NT contract in this new hand. The goal is to maximize the difference between X and Y. For example, can it ever be 4?

1, 2, 3, 4, 5: C As long as I know what to expect, I don't have a problem with "style". Let me add: takeout doubles - one partner like to DBL on any 12+ point hand, while the other partner would show ideal shape for the takeout DBL.

Serious and Non-Serious Splinters

What do 'WayXX' and 'WayX' mean in this post? -
Given that Bush and his cronies made more money in the last 8 years than anyone commenting here, I wonder who exactly is having the last laugh here.

Is it ok to use GIB to award the contract?

As an alternative to making such posts, I'd think that anyone "disgusted" by BBO ACBL tournament directing simple stop playing in them. I'm willing to wager $100 that if all such players did stop playing, BBO would hardly notice the drop in table count. The reason, I think, is simple - bridge is an addiction. I may be occasionally disgusted by cheap cigarettes, but left on a desert island with no other options, I'd still smoke them. -
1H is not limited. So how can 4NT be Quant. ? Brilliant logic. LOL How can my bids possibly be limited if partner hasn't limited HIS hand yet??? I mean, that seems unfair. Partner should limit his hand first, so that I can limit my hand. Similarly, I have a complaint regarding limit raises. How does that possibly makes sense? I mean, if partner has a minimum, why are we bidding at the three-level? If partner has a maximum, why aren't we bidding game yet? Finally, if partner has a really big hand, why I am not bidding RKCB yet? Some people! Indeed. With 12-14 Partner should pass With 15-17 Partner bids 5NT With 18-19 Partner bids 6NT With 20-21 partner bids 7NT.

Alerting "obvious" bids
qwery_hi replied to awm's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
Adam, Sounds like Edgar Kaplan, and that's a good thing. RichM I would go further and say that I'd be more comfortable with awm in a position of power to decide laws/conventions than I am with the current people in their ivory towers who never seem to have the time to participate in these kinds of discussions online. Well, that's jeremy69, mamos, bluejak, dburn and me put in our place. Maybe we shouldn't bother posting, as apparently it's not noticed when we do. My apologies for hurting the feelings of EBU, the point I was making was ACBL specific. Given that awm and I am in the ACBL, and furthermore your examples are all in Europe and not the ACBL, I'd say that my point is still valid. Perhaps the members of EBU are satisfied that their voices are being heard, but as a member of the ACBL, the people deciding the laws/conventions seem distant and aloof. How many of them are participants in either rec.games.bridge or the BBO forums? Does the ACBL have a blog for conventions/laws where the members on the committees regularly post? -
