  1. I'd dbl all three, although for different reasons 1. Only 3 in spades don't bother me. I want to fight for the partscore. 2. With both majors, this is an automatic dbl. 3. Ideal shape - this is more a matter of style though, unlike 1 and 2 (where dbl is more good than bad).
  2. Your predictions for the Vanderbilt. I'm asking for The top 8, if this thread gathers enough replies I'll make a spreadsheet to use to determine the winner. Anyone know of a good scoring method for predictions?
  3. You heard him, no need to discuss this anymore. Anyone who disagrees is being unreasonable. Move along to some other issue. All bow down to the wisdom of TimG. The Gods have spoken. If you're going to pick on me, at least have the decency to do it at a site where I am not a member. Your remark would have been funny if I had called you a cheat! Want some cheese with that whine?

  5. Yeah. Would you make a Palin joke if you were playing her at a table? Think of BBO Forums as a huge virtual table
  6. Would you be in 5D? [hv=d=e&v=e&n=saxxxhaktxdqxck9x&w=skxhxxxxxdaxcxxxx&e=sqj987xhqxdjxxcqt&s=sthj9dkt9xxxcajxx]399|300|Scoring: XIMP[/hv] E opens 2S, then - - 2S P P X P 3D 3S P P 4C P 4D AP NS were playing 2/1 with no lebensohl.
  7. Yes, I should clarify that X there showed 4 spades
  8. In the auction : 1C - 1H - X - P 2S - , would 2S show a hand that would have raised a 1S response to 2S absent the intervention, or would it show a stronger hand since opener could have bid 1S?
  9. 2♠, surely the fifth spade is worth something; in spite of the quacky nature of the hand.
  10. The fundamental issue is multi-level replies are not there in this forums. If we had them, there would be little need for quoting.
  11. That's what makes this mildly funny. What would make it hilarious is if they traded STD's and sued each other, ending with both of them bankrupt and in jail!
  12. What would be the difference between pulling 3NT to 4D after bidding 3H and a direct 4D bid?
  13. Swiss can be gamed too. When I played in chess tournaments, some people used a strategy of losing in round 2 in a 9 round event so they could easily win rounds 3 thru 6.
  14. I guess you probably had the most fun of them all playing against top opponents - Just saying
  15. If you do it randomly, than sometimes your bidding is canapé style, that is alertable. Notice that some SO's order to alert the 2nd bid of a canapé and not the first bid. Check your SO for details about alerting canapé style bidding. Is it canape even if you make the planned rebid of 1NT?
  16. I would pass. Giving RHO 7 diamonds at these colors, that leaves us with no 8 card major fit or a 9 card club fit. I don't see a way to get partner to bid 3NT if that's the right spot to be.
  17. I don't know the hand, but I predict West had AQ tight of spades. Second guess would be AQx. So the showoff way to play this would be to lead a low spade from dummy after East pitches a spade :P
  18. Thanks for your thoughts. I had a feel that SAYC > 2/1 , but as pointed out by mbodell, I think the viking club 1nt GF > SAYC > 2/1
  19. I think you couldn't have done anything more than call the director, but the director should have adjusted all boards in your favor. Perhaps you could have appealed the directors decisions.
  20. helene_t, can you share the article please?
  21. What do you prefer in a precision framework - 2/1 or SAYC style responses to the major openings? And Why? Does anyone have a preferred set of major suit raises and the continuations playing precision?
  22. What is when you are 4-2-(43) you randomly choose to open 1c or 1d? Does this require an alert or a pre-alert? If so, what should you say to the opponents?
