Ok, I dug it up. The thing is, I figure that since it's just the roll-over explanation they'd get just as much from simply seeing what the sequence says at a new table. http://tinyurl.com/3uyk5pr I did just get a top by passing, but it struck me as weird that the 2NT roll over said 20-21 flat.
-
No, because I didn't bid 2NT...Unless they'd want to see that hand anyways.
-
Apparently the sequence: 1♣-(1♠)-X-(P) 2NT shows a 20-21 NT hand with a spade stopper. Why wouldn't such a hand just open 2NT? Shouldn't this be 18-19? I may be not understanding something.
-
Antrax, I agree with the above posters about the general meaning of these bids. That said, I've discovered here that "Israeli standard" is very far from "standard" as I've seen it anywhere else. This may have been confusing the issue, but I'm not sure.
-
No, what it says is that "simultaneity is relative". Since clocks being synchronous is a series of simultaneous events (ticking every second together) this is a relative thing. The difficulty is synching them in your reference frame when you can't actually easily see both of them at the same time. This was (provisionally) their error.

LOL. I was thinking they were policeman that searched "under" people's "clothes". You know, like bomb detection or something.
-
Shows spades generally. If not, the opponents will psych a 1 spade bid here. If I were forced to pick between your two choices, then my answer would be: I don't understand the functional difference between it being takeout or negative. They seem the same to me.

Sorry man. Didn't mean to step on the life tilt. It's a pretty hand, but I'd rather miss it and be in fourth than make it and be in 10th. Keep it up, it's been great watching you so far.
-
Wow, this hand was great: [hv=pc=n&s=sj93hk8653dq2cj86&w=sq64hj7dkt7ckt972&n=sa85haqt94dj84caq&e=skt72h2da9653c543&d=n&v=n&b=5&a=pp4hppp&p=s4s5sks3c3c6c2cqhah2h3h7hqd6h5hjcac4c8c7htd3hkc9cjckh9]399|300[/hv] This wasn't the auction, but with Justin declarer, and this was the play to the first tricks. I think that double dummy there's a double winkle here (at least I think that's what it's called) to make. South has to overtake the heart and lead another (sadly Justin didn't overtake the heart here, I thankfully had the easier time of seeing this double dummy and with GIB). Notice that both players have to hold onto 2 spades (or else he might be able to drop the Q or pin the T) and so they'll both be threatened with being endplayed in diamonds. The other table was played by north, and the defense had an easier time.
-
interesting, the vugraph had them ruffing the club finesse and leading a heart. I was curious why the declarers didn't give up a spade right away instead of leaving the 9 outstanding.
-
The player for USA 1 also made the hand (I think it was Levin, but I'm not sure) after playing the J at trick one. He ended up having a double squeeze later (when the defense was friendly, and didn't force him to guess which squeeze to try for), and the diamonds were the double threat.
-
I think #notadirector, #notagoodplayer, and #notaniceperson should definitely get used more.
-
Us Bunnies are tough to get averages against. Normally we give away tops. Funny hand though.
-
I don't understand, I was having fun with your interesting presentation (reminded me of books from 18 years ago) but my choice at 1a (I didn't upgrade) wasn't there. I wanted to stayman and bid 4D (transfer) over a 2D response.
-
You may have grunched han's post and been fooled by the display, but the defense knows where the A of diamonds is since South is dummy.
-
Because partner has stepped up and decided to captain. Then partner placed the contract without even sniffing at a NT contract and didn't ask your opinion. Partner has said, "Thanks for the answer, we're playing here," and your response was "Even though I don't know much about your hand, I'm gonna correct to 7NT."
-
Thanks for the quick answers. As the whole club played 5 card majors (and many played a multi 2 diamond) it seems that they were simply calling it Acol, when really it's probably best described as (sub)standard-Israeli.
-
Excellent. I was just starting to think he'd meant from the forums since he hadn't posted anywhere since.
-
I played a club this week where everyone claimed to play ACOL, but I have my suspicions that they just say "ACOL" the way that people on BBO say "SAYC". Having never played it myself I have three quick questions: 1) Is there a quick primer on it somewhere online? 2) Is it 5 or 4 card majors? 3) How is it pronounced? Thanks! -Bunny

Maybe this is somewhere else and I couldn't find it, but are there plans to add a double dummy solver to vugraph the same where there is one when I kib in the main bridge club? Sometimes a hand is too difficult for me to solve without some help...sometimes too difficult for the commentators too. Thanks, Bunny

Should we find this slam?

This. This too. -
I think that while it is possible to interpret the situation as asking if there is exactly two clubs, I think that the more reasonable (and usual) way of interpreting this is as "at least". In the future, I usually ask as well "העם יכול שיש שש קלאבים, או חייב שרק שתיים" (can he have six clubs, or is it required that it's just two). Don't be afraid to ask lots of questions if you need the info (or are unsure). I know it annoys the opponents, but that's their problem as long as you are not asking just to annoy them. On another note, I am very amused to see that all the hebrew except for the words "must" and "two" is just transliterated English. Even the word "one" in "one club".
-
Meaning that they made an overtrick instead of making on the nose? I don't think the decision to lead the king of spades was even in the running for worst decision at the table that hand.
-
Since he's apparently from New Hampshire he must be a teacher of English. :P (There's always a way to find ambiguities, I think this one about English teachers is a bit of a stretch)
-
In all seriousness, you can sign in invisibly so that they won't know you're on. This is probably not ideal, but should work.
