  1. Although Bbradley does put in more time to finding and reporting problems than anyone else. I honestly don't know where you find the time to search all the hands and report them here.
  2. By the way, maybe other people here knew the full quote, but I did not. “The grue is a sinister, lurking presence in the dark places of the earth. Its favorite diet is adventurers, but its insatiable appetite is tempered by its fear of light. No grue has ever been seen by the light of day, and few have survived its fearsome jaws to tell the tale.”
  3. small to the 9, then small to the J. It's hand to say, since we don't know which hand is declarer and which is dummy.
  4. 1) I would pass. 2D is my second choice. 2) I do not like this 1NT. Not even close, and I'm all for off-shape NT. The bid was so bad that South could do nothing but pass afterwards.
  5. Here's the whole hand: [hv=pc=n&s=sj74hk7642d54cqj2&w=sqt853ha8d972ca63&n=sak9hqjdakt3ct875&e=s62ht953dqj86ck94]399|300[/hv] At your table, 2♥ made 3. At the other table the auction was: 1♦ (HURD)-(P)-1♥-(1♠Weinstein) 1NT-AP making 2.
  6. And I've been going to bed at 145 with ESPN radio streaming the world series, and get up in the morning to watch BBO. It's a great time for streaming entertainment online.
  7. So I think you meant that there was no interference. That the auction was: 1♦-1♥ 1♠-?? I would not pass. Opener has not made a game forcing jump shift (so has limited his hand a little). Pass is not terrible, but I would bid 1NT nonetheless.
  8. Borrow a laptop and bring it to class? Your instructor will understand.... Go Justin! Gogogogogo.
  9. I don't think there are 8 cases. I think there are 5 cards that can be singleton in either of the two hands makes 10 cases. Unless I'm misunderstanding your arithmetic and its meaning.
  10. Here's another really pretty hand from the matches today. Edit: put in spoiler due to other thread presenting this as a problem. I do not know if it should be found single dummy.
  11. Here's the hand. The error doesn't seem to be in GIBs response, but rather that the question was RKCB (H) (meaning in hearts). This seems to be a mistake similar to one we've seen before.
  12. Yes, but these hands may actually come up...All a matter of taste. I very much enjoy both books.
  13. To be honest, I don't hate a 1♥ bid by North. I'm not sure I would do it, but I wouldn't say anything to my partner if he bid it. In fact, it's interesting to see GIB make a "creative" bid for lead direction and obstruction on a 4 card suit with honors. I'm a little impressed that the programmers have managed something like that.
  14. Yes, it's clear the partner had lost his mind well before criticizing the double...bidding anything but hearts is insane.
  15. 1♥ is the only bid I would consider reasonable here. As a beginner, I'd've thought for a second about passing, but would not do so at MPs or IMPs or any other form of scoring. After the auction in the spoiler, I'd bid 3♥ at MPs. I'm tempted to make a game try at IMPs. I'd probably just bid 3♥ though.
  16. What's the tie break for 2nd in the case that USA2 and Netherlands manage to tie?
  17. Ok, so not a bug. Maybe worth considering changing the definition of 2♠ to go as low as 1NT goes?
  18. http://tinyurl.com/3r77bcc Problem 1: Why not just bid 2♠? Problem 2: I played this during an ACBL match. I immediately created the link from the "Results" column. I delayed posting it here because I realized other people were playing the same hand right now. However, this seems to be a problem in security that people can easily discuss and export the hands with a DD solver while the event is still going.
  19. If you look at some of the other hands (dunno if that's possible), it also says that 1C-(1S)-X-(P) 3NT is 20-21 flat.
