I am not a TD, but why is North bidding 5♥? Is it a bid to accommodate his partner's misbid? Otherwise it seems like a strange bid.

No.

Not enough...correct. I'll blame the fact that it's midnight here and I've been working since 7 AM, but between you and me I'd've miscounted this more often than I'd like to admit.

My question is should we pull 3 rounds of trump before playing the spades? Things go bad if they ruff the second spade, but if we pull trumps first, we can test spades (we have enough entries for 4-2 spades still by ruffing a diamond) and fall back on the hook if they are 5-1.

Yes. 1♥. -
The first hand is tougher (IMO). I think South has a double of 5♠ though. Yes, he has only a singleton spade, but he has 3 losers in hearts, and no real interest in bidding slam. I don't understand how North bid 6♣ rather than 6♦. The second hand seems easier to me. North should bid 2♥ after 2♦. He's already shown a minimum with 6(5) clubs, and at most 3 spades. Now finish showing your shape. Afterwards, South can bid NT since his stiff King will look much better.

English (American, but I watch a lot of British TV) 1 Hebrew 4 French 5-6 depending on how recently I've memorized vocabulary. In general, I can pick up grammar and accents fairly quickly, but vocabulary eternally eludes me...this includes English. At times I'd've rated my Hebrew as high as a 3, but spending time in an academic environment here has pointed out that I cannot hold particularly deep conversations in Hebrew.

1) Win A of clubs. 2) Check on trump split with heart to the A. If trump 2-1 3)Q of trump 4-5) AK of spades 6) ruff a spade If spades 3-3 claim. If spades 5-1 or 6-0 sigh. If spades 4-2 7) heart to K 8) ruff a spade 9) heart to dummy 10-11) 2 spades 12) diamond hook. If trump are 3-0, try for a similar line, with some minor details changed depending on which side the 3-0 split is on.

Jilly, you didn't finish the auction. Did you find the grand slam? Did you find 7NT? What happened at the other table?

I think that 2♠ is a wtp bid. I'm torn between 2♥ and 3♥ on the second auction. 3♥ is clearly more descriptive, but I think I just want to bid slowly and see what partner bids in the meantime. -
libra243, you are correct. One success (even many successes) is more likely a correct judgement and good bridge than it is cheating. I cannot speak for BBO, but I believe that their policy is to monitor pairs after a string of seemingly impossible plays and bids. I don't think anyone (IRL or online) has ever been punished for one suspected play.

Congratulations! Enjoy the win.

Even playing against humans, I'd probably just double. I don't give my chances of making slam to be so large (it's not awful...needs a couple marked finesses, KQ 7-times of spades and a club honor with partner) so I'll just take my vulnerable penalty (it'll be good enough if all the finesses are on, and low risk if the finesses are off).

Libra, in general if you have a home router (or wireless set up, etc.) the router looks to the rest of the world like one computer, and they cannot tell how many computers are being used at the home.

@bluejack: I am not a director, but I was under the impression that if North had misbid with 3♣ and was alerted to this fact by the alert, he was not allowed to take advantage and run. Am I conflating this with some similar cases?
-
@libra: I think that there is some communication not being understood. You are suggesting that the ability to log on from a single computer multiple times should not be allowed. I don't disagree. However, the only identifier (AFAIK) that BBO has is the IP address. As many people above have noted, there are times when we *want* people to sign on multiple times from the same IP address. It is difficult (or impossible) to tell the difference between a single computer logging on twice, and two different computers logging on from the same IP address.

I'll duck the spade to the Jack. This wins if LHO has underled the Queen (can now avoid a diamond loser) or if he has the Queen of hearts doubleton (as I can now get to hand to finesse). It may also be hard for them to cash the diamond before it disappears anyways, as RHO will be on lead. If I don't have the courage for this play at the table and win the Ace, I start hearts with the King of trump (stiff queen is better than stiff ace for picking up the trump suit, and are both equally likely).
-
I'll bid 3NT, but I'll do it thinking, "I'm sure this is wrong and I'm posting this on the forums later to see what people do there."

You don't want the opps running to a making 5m contract.

Even in ancient times Chinese monetary policy affected the Roman economy. When China decreed that gold should be taken out of circulation, there was huge deflation in Roman and it tanked the economy.

I don't think it plays unusual 4NT over a 3M pre-empt either.
