  1. I am legitimately surprised, it did not even occur to me to lead a heart lol. I guess I must be missing something, what is the argument for leading a heart? Is there a general type of hand where we need to lead a heart to beat it, given that RHO has a heart void 100% of the time?
  2. Being able to overcall 3C natural when they always have 4+ and have 5+ more than half the time is not useful.
  3. I would pass, but if partner balances 3H I'm going to bid game.
  4. IMPs, r/w K xx KJ8 QJ98xxx 1D 1S 3D ?
  5. w/r IMPs Jxxx xx Kxxx ATx P 1S 2H 3C P 3N 4H P P X P 5C AP Yes this was really the auction. 5C was super slow, but everything else was mostly in tempo. Your lead?
  6. Defenses to your opponents' NT is one of those things that is extremely hotly debated, yet in the end none of it really makes that much of a difference at the B/I level. Too much has been written about it, and B/I players are fascinated by the topic (partially because of the gross amount of literature in books and magazines talking about it), even though it is a totally nonconstructive use of their time.
  7. 1) Pass, we are 4333 and have some values, it seems probable we can just beat this on heart plays, and if we can't then I doubt 2H was making. 2) I think x is save-suggesting so I would just do that. 3) 2H, pretty ugly, but with 64 and great club spots I think this is just normal.
  8. I was dummy on this hand, but my partner thought at trick 12 for so long that I also thought about it for quite a long time. I thought the ♥A was right at the table, but when we discussed it later we both concluded the ♥J was better, for all of Justin's reasons, and the fact that the restricted choice is a little questionable (also my read on this particular opp was that she would play the K much more often than the Q). (It was KQ9x onside)
  9. How can anyone think anyone would bid 2C with this hand?
  10. [hv=d=s&v=b&n=sxxhajxxxdjcjt9xx&s=saxxhtxxdakqxxxcq]133|200|Scoring: IMP[/hv] 1D-1H 3D-P Opps play standard leads, UDCA. I would say calling both of them "advanced" in skill is a fair assessment. Apologies, I don't remember the exact spots, let me know if you think it's important. 1: ♠Q x x x 2: ♦x J x x 3: ♥x x T K 4: ♠J x x A 5-7: ♦AKQ, RHO following to all, LHO playing ♦/♠/♣ 8: ♣Q K x x 9: ♠x ♣x ♠K ♠x Now RHO plays another spade, which you ruff as LHO pitches a club, and this is the endposition Whether you agree with this line, you're at trick 10 now.[hv=d=s&v=b&n=sxxhajxxxdjcjt9xx&s=saxxhtxxdakqxxxcq]133|200|Scoring: IMP[/hv] You cash your last diamond, LHO playing a heart and RHO playing a spade; you have lost 4 tricks. You play a heart, and LHO plays the 9; hook or drop? (LHO is known to have started with exactly 4 spades and 2 diamonds, as a summary, so you can play LHO to have started with QJxx KQ9x xx Kxx or QJxx K9x xx Kxxx)
  11. I think I would transfer and invite while admitting to being a little conservative. Surely after your start we are worth 4H. Also I have no idea what the law has anything to do with this.
  12. Goren + judgment > Banzai I think it would not be that hard to argue Goren > Banzai, but I am very confident in the first claim.
  13. [hv=d=n&v=n&n=s93haq976532da97c&w=skqt84h8dt64ca532&e=saj72hjtdj5cq9864&s=s65hk4dkq832ckjt7]399|300|Scoring: MP[/hv] 4H P P 4S P P 5H P 6C X 6H P P X AP 6C = cuebid, 8+ 8421 HCP in C 5H = 1+H; 22-28 total points Trick 1: ♠A - 5 - 4 - 3 Trick 2: ♦5 6HX=, +1210
  14. Regardless of how you would bid Jxxx xxx void Axxxxx the first time, the question is what would you do with that hand the second time.
  15. OK I guess I didn't make it clear. I was asking, what is the difference between splintering and bidding drury, planning on splintering later. Is it possible to want to splinter opposite a real 1M opener, but to want to have the sequence P-1H 2C-2H 3H if partner is minimum?
  16. What is the difference between splintering and bidding drury and then splintering?
  17. Do people think RHO is more likely to be stiff than usual? Much more likely? What was the tempo of the lead?
  18. 1) Double, I have extras without heart support. 2) I would have started with 2N, now I would just guess 3N. I don't like the initial pass at all. 3) 4D, this is the hardest problem to me. Double keeps everything in play, but if partner bids 3S or 4S I have no idea what to do, and these are surely going to be his most frequent bids. 4) 2C, and I think opening was fine, though it has obviously not gone our way. 5) Pass, not enough in hearts to double.
  19. Partner does not have 4 spades lol.
  20. Does redouble set up a force?
  21. Yeah I think 5H is just too much.
  22. IMPs AKxx Qx KJx AQ9x 1C-1D 2N-3C 3D-3N ? 3C = diamonds 3M instead of 3N by partner would be concentration of values
