  1. Standard in a North American 2/1 style is that 3S is invitational with 4 or more spades. I think in theory this is fine and possibly better than playing 3S is preemptive. I also think it is not very hard to do better than either of these.
  2. I would rather bid 4S than 1N, but anyway if I did, it seems percentage to just bid 4S over a 2C or 2H rebid by partner, but if partner bids 2D I would only bid 3S. Also if you are wondering why I think it is percentage to bid 4S instead of 1N even though opposite some rebids I wouldn't force to game (that is, 1N is more "accurate"): 1) 1M-4M is a great auction for your side and is very hard on the opponents, both in the bidding and the play. Giving away information about partner's hand with his rebid is very bad when we are probably just going to play a (light) 4S contract. 2) 3 card and 4 card limit raises are different, partner will not evaluate his hand correctly when he has bad trumps (among other things), which is not unlikely given our spade holding.
  3. Are you just pretending to be surprised about this or what? No, I am calling the moderator silly, because that what I think he/she is. How could you possibly think deleting your post was silly? You made a post that contained nothing in it except an expletive directed at another forum member. I mean, if you are really as smart as you think you are (apparently you are much smarter than me and gnasher!), then this shouldn't be too hard to comprehend.
  4. Are you just pretending to be surprised about this or what?
  5. I would run from 1Nx with a 4333 and zero hcp. It's harder on your opponents than you might think.
  6. In a national pair game I recently held, at all red: K76xx Kx KQx KQx and opened a strong NT and at some tables the bidding went something like 1N P 2D 3S ? And the question posed was, can you double with 5 trumps and only 2 hearts. Some people did, but were disappointed to learn that 3S was completely cold, they had 6 spade tricks and three side aces to cash. So the moral of the story is, don't double with these kinds of hands, it doesn't end well.
  7. I think you are going to lose some equity from the times 3D is down but partner balances 3S and it's down. However given how absurdly good our hand is I guess it's not a whole lot. Also I like to play the double as just warning off partner from bidding 3M because you have good defense, not showing a particular strength of hand. I considered this to be normal but maybe not.
  8. Mind sharing your methods for this? I think someone once posted (maybe gnasher?) that they play 3C = 5332 with a 5cM. Then opener can ask with 3D if he wants, or bids 3N if he doesn't care.
  9. I don't understand, we have good club spots, and this is a situation where we could easily be taking 9 tricks without touching spades ever, I mean look at how good our red suits are! Overall I think bidding 4S is ridiculous/horrible/masterminding.
  10. I think pass and double are pretty crazy!
  11. I would (almost) never bid 4H with 4333 shape and only 3 hearts.
  12. I would always double. Also I would never pass 2S, but it seems to have worked out pretty well!
  13. I don't think a diamond is completely insane. Edit: Oh never mind thought partner opened 1C. On the actual auction I agree a diamond would be insane.
  14. Looks like we hit and it's not close. Our equity from doubling is about .3077 and our equity from hitting is about 0.46 (this is assuming infinite deck, in 6 deck it will be slightly less favorable, because 7 and T are good cards for you).
  15. Yeah seriously, if you play 2D shows 5 or more diamonds, and 2N tends to deny holding 5 diamonds, I have no idea why this hand would be the exception.
  16. IF YOU PASS, YOUR PARTNER IS GOING TO DECLARE 1NT DOUBLED
  17. I'd open 1N at all vuls (maybe 2N at w/r).
  18. Thought pass was extremely obv!
  19. Pretty sure I would do the same thing, sucks when partner has a primed out 20 count! (I play south could have way less)
