  1. Expert standard is that the double always promises convertible values and is never purely penalty. Before doubling, just ask yourself how pleased you would be to hear your partner pull the double.
  2. Just in case han's sarcasm isn't clear I am pretty sure you can't make this even looking at their cards. You can give them a chance to defend incorrectly but that's about it (duck some tricks and when rho is in if he doesnt play a club through lho will get squeezed in hearts and clubs).
  3. If you pass a takeout double, catch partner with a balanced hand with two spade honors and no 5 card suit, and they are playing for overtricks, then your pass probably was not very good.
  4. Hanoi's scores seem really off on this one.
  5. Why would you want to play 6D, it seems like a bad contract.
  6. How did you get to 6♣? 4H P P X 4N P 5D P 6C AP I just wanted to play slam in partner's shorter minor.
  7. We bid to 6C by south which I think is a really great spot single dummy. It's not as good a spot double dummy, since west is going to be making effective non-heart leads, but I think it is a really good single dummy spot.
  8. South can just bid 7H after 5N (or 5S), and then north will convert to 7N obvously.
  9. I think north made a reasonable choice, 3C is also reasonable.
  10. 2N-3S 3N-4H 4N 3S = minor stayman 4H = short hearts 4N = blackwood for hearts
  11. w/r MP, first seat 97632 7 Q76 AQ74 P 1C P 1H P 2H P P 3C! They made it too!
  12. What hand in your agreements would bid a forcing NT but would not be a semiforcing 1N in a standard system? What hand would bid a semiforcing 1N in a standard system but would not bid a forcing NT in your system? If the answer is none, then your forcing 1N is identical to my semiforcing 1N. Add to that that sometimes you pass 1N when you think it's right, then guess what, you are playing a semiforcing NT!
  13. I wouldn't agree to play kickback if I thought double here could possibly be RKC for hearts (this is a serious comment).
  14. I think pass is bad anyway, a suit contract is just so likely to outplay 1N when we are really concentrated in two suits. Also 3N as 13-15 with 2(443) is basically unplayable to me, I would never bid it even if that was my agreement. Your partner might have felt the same way!
  15. Agree on defense and bidding but I'll one-up you, I would definitely not pass in 3rd seat. Oh I thought we were in 2nd seat when I read the problem. Even playing a style where light 3rd seat openers are not expected I agree it is definitely wrong to pass.
  16. I would bid 1S and then 6H. Seems like a really good description of my hand actually! Not particularly worried about a passout, I actually think that is LOL unlikely.
  17. I don't see any reason not to play club club, and there are certainly many layouts where it is necessary to beat the hand. It definitely seems like our most likely way to beat them anyway. By the way I definitely would not pass over 2D.
  18. You have a bad hand, just pass. You are almost definitely getting another chance anyway.
