Assuming you play lebensohl doesn't 3♠ show 4♥, no stopper, while 2NT-> 3♠ shows stopper with 4♥ (or vice versa if you play the reverse)? I know you mean it to be a stopper ask, but unless we have two spade stops I'm not confident about 3NT making-partner could have bid 2NT with two stoppers. No, I meant it as a "directionless bid" with the values of 12-14ish and I'm not expecting partner to be bidding 3NT over that because he rates to have a singleton so I'm wanting to find our 5-3 fit. But speaking about lebensohl, you are forgetting a few sequences. There are 1) direct 3♠, 2) 2NT then 3♠, 3) direct 3NT and 4) 2NT then 3NT.

2NT as well.
-
Double. But I pass if I were 5143

That person must know how to lose imps pretty well.

ja...I don't see any other alternative.

Close, but 1NT for me.

Double is extras/values.

Behavior At The Table
andy_h replied to A2003's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
Silence is golden. Although I do know that sometimes can tick off people even more. -
I've played this method before and it seems ok/ordinary. There's nothing special about it - give attitude/count as you would with the carding method that you're used to or any previous agreements you've had in certain situations (like information based on auction/what's in dummy etc).
-
Pass. They could be making +1. And what do you mean by 2♠="does this sound normal to you as an expert?" I've never seen this convention being used but it would be sensible to play 2♠ as a relay ask. If they want to play it as natural, let them play it as natural.

2♣ then 2♥ does sound pretty cool. Anyway at imps I would bid 2C and at MPs I would pass 1NT.

downgrade situations?
andy_h replied to olliebol's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
Agree with aqua, except I don't downgrade KQ or QJ tight when I'm only considering the opening of NT. Usually most downgrading occurs during mid auction when the information infront of you provides you with a fair idea of the honour locations and know how well (or bad) your honours are placed with respect to it. In general, just remember to not underestimate Aces and not overestimate stray queens and jacks. -
Yeah 5♣ even though we are vul. KQJ10xxx is definitely called trumps. If I wasn't allowed 5♣ then I would bid 3♣ and I don't play NFB.
-
I would have bid 3♣ over 2♦ because my hand is really all about clubs. Given the actual auction I don't know why that would stop me from my original plan so I think 3♣ is obvious. You have a 6-4, partner made a takeout double of 1♠ and my suit quality is of QJ109! Passing seems like a crime.

Strong two suited hand
andy_h replied to zheddh's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
First instinct says 4♠. It's true that we can have a much weaker hand than this but the 5 level could be dangerous which is depended upon the size of dummy's spades and diamonds. My 2nd choice would be 4NT. -
Yuck. Hmm I don't quite like pass because I expect partner to make a balancing takeout double with say 1444 and a 10 count. But I guess that's the minimum and partner won't always have that. I'm afraid however that the values in the outside suits (especially diamonds here), partner's diamond values would be sitting before dummy's. Pretty lame that it's imps. But how about 3♠ now? Although I'm not sure how forcing this is but surely there should be a balanced range which passes 2♠ then now bids 3♠? What about those 12-14(or bad 15) balanced ranges which had no spade stopper? In fact I think that's a bit reasonable and most of the time partner will have a singleton spade, so with my AAK this should be ok when partner has a 5 card suit rather than us trying to guess our fit. Having said that, I wouldn't know what 2NT(leb) then 3♠ over 3♣ is either, maybe just your ordinary leb sequence. But yeah, I think I'll bid 3♠ with pass as a 2nd choice (I hate 3♣ even more).

1: A 2: C 3: A 4: C My preferred style is 1NT can have 5cM. If it can't then I definitely prefer rebidding 3card minior with the 15-17. If you hold the 12-14NT hand then partner will have more hands that is of the invitational range and you can easily describe it with whatever conventions you have over a 1NT rebid but if you had to rebid 3card minor for the 12-14 then it gets very hard to describe those hands. And if you rebid a 3cd minor with the 15-17 sometimes you can still make a further bid of 2NT to invite.

Not sure if this would be related nor do I know if it has been mentioned before it is similar - I have noticed a few bugs for partnership bidding (windows version, so only constructive bidding). These were similar to each other with different variations: One of them was, if it is person A's turn to bid and if he made a bid which coincided at the same time that person B pressed undo, it would undo person's B last bid but then person B's bid would be made by the bid that person A had clicked on. 2nd variation would be the same as the previous case, but sometimes if person B's action was quick enough to press undo+make a bid (don't know the time duration) but person B's bid would be changed but somehow person A's original bid would be made to the exchanged bid. 3rd variation is where it's Person A's turn to bid (Person A always the dealer), makes a bit coincident on Person's B action of pressing redeal, the next hand's opening bid will be the one made by the bid that Person A had clicked on.

1♠, but 4 when w/r.
-
3♣. Partner has a few extra values and is probably trying to give us a chance to pass so he's probably 3154. I'm not sure what partner's 1NT opening style is but with 2254 and 15-16ish I would have hoped he'd open it 1NT. So, maybe typical hands might be Axx x AJxxx AKxx or Kxx x AQxxx AKxx or Kxx x AQJxx AKxx or Qxx x AQJxx AKxx. I think game's pretty unlikely.
-
X over 1♠ but pass over 2♠. AK is a dangerous sign and I'd feel very uncomfortable if partner insists on diamonds (had we doubled).
-
1NT (semi underbid) or 2♠ (semi overbid). I go with 2♠. I don't see any other alternative (sorry, really dislike double as I don't have hearts).

take-out with no shape?
andy_h replied to plaur's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
w/r I would have opened. -
3♥. Why am I downgrading AAAK again? Even game is good opposite xxx Qx xxx KQxxx or Kxx xx KQ10x xxxx or xx Qx AQxxx xxxx etc etc.
