How I see it: He is looking at 8 tricks and countin on you to have one trick and ♣ stop or that opp's don't find that lead. I would leave it there, correcting to ♥ doesn't improve and switch back to ♠ I don't understand since 4♥ seems better Pedro

Bidding toward slam....
PedroG replied to Rickysa's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
Very interresting question ;) Well I was here think on that, and possible support answers to 1M 1M-p-2M => 6-9 ; 3+cards 1M-p-3M => 11-12 ; upon agreement 3 or 4+ cards (Limit Raise) 1M-p-2NT => 13+ ; 4+ cards 1M-p-4x => 13+ ; 3+ cards and singleton or void in x So with 13+ and 3 cards, I thinkn only possible to show delayed support 1M-p-2X-p 2Y-p-? Now my doubt too, if limit raise is agreed to be only 4+ cards support, then I would suspect that u have to show a invitation hand here with 3M and 4M show a 13+ hand. But if Limit raise can be made with 3 cards then the 3M here isn't needed to show invitational. Hope it helped, and we get some answer too on how best to use this if LR is 3+ card support. TY Pedro -
Hi All, Well not time to think much about it :( At the table I would think K♥ shaky, if I let opp's get in they will discard all in ♠, so better hope p singleton ♦ and can use is trumps... Win A♦ lead ♦, get the lead again on A♣, and another ♦ to the last trump of partner. If this fail hope that the K♥ is still any good that I doubt :D so if it fail defense fails :) Pedro

TY neilkaz, funny how things are, just starting to read the chapter on EndPlays on Watson book :). When I started to write the post, I wasn't aware of the end play, but then when making all the questions in my head, it come clear :) So TY Paul, it may be a simple quiz but it was interresting... Pedro

Hi Paul, 2 trumps out, we can strip those even if we have to make two trump rounds. Now only A♣ loser, both 6♦ and the rest of the clubs can be ruffed in hand. So the big question is if W holds the K♥. So what can be the difference between hand leading the J or opponents? Well if E happens to hold the K♥ and the finesse would be bad, if he has the lead he can't lead it. So the way u play clubs may influence, try and get E on the lead if possible. Pedro

Hi, I read recently a article by Mike Lawrance, refering to the rule of 7, in that we should expect partner to have 7 pts when overcalling (t/o dbl included) a preempt. Would like to ear the advance player of the forum regarding this rule of 7. TY Pedro

I know quite a few good pairs who signal count in preference to attitude throughout. Not a style that I can cope with, personally, but they seem to do OK. That is true, in my local club here B/I first learn count and 3 and 5
-
Isn't this passing from your problem, to my convention ??? Well anyhow... On your question sure thinh the 2♠ because the same thing has in your problem... if partner lead low, third hand if possible win the trick if he can't win the trick, gives count, what attitude can you show, you allready by your play stated your attitude, p I can't beat that card, but I have this number of cards here... Now if your p lead a card and is winning the trick you attitude. I tought this was pretty standard. But then Novice here. But please tell me how is done.... Pedro
-
Hummm... Standard lead, would he not lead second best from nothing? So I assume that if partner has ♥9762 we would lead 7♥ and not the two. Well I tought that if u don't have any chance of winning trick, then u give count not attitude. :) don't see how this would change if it was first or not trick... But yes I was thinking first trick... Pedro
-
Both's answer's is the Ten... Well partner must be leading from Kxx2... So if dummy put the Ace I play the T, giving count to p low = odd. If dummy play low then u take with your smallest of equal honor the Ten Pedro

Some questions that have arisen
PedroG replied to Orla's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
Ty for posting op's hands... like I said new player and mistakes made all the time at the table, so beware with any of my comments :) RHO hand :) Well I don't like the X not because I have 4 in the clubs but because I could not handle the diamond response if it would come :) and ofc being long in the opp's suit is minus not a plus (even if he can have only 3 of them). If I had to bid something I would overcall, even with only four cards, but perhaps PASS would be my choice this shape is wrong for anything else. So I would suspect that 1♣ would be what would happen to me at the table, even if it goes down 5. :P Pedro -

PedroG replied to Orla's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
Hi Orla, Sorry, I'm a new player and can be saying a lot of mistakes, but if u have 3pts and your partner 13, what are opp's doing ? Passing with such good hands... Why I never get opp's like that, mines usually are bidding all over the place ever shorther than 24pts. Pedro -

Hi, Well with 3HCP and a possible misfit I would PASS... That would be the more specific bid I could find. Pedro -
Cuebid to show strenght
PedroG replied to PedroG's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
Hi All, And thanks for the answers, not sure if I like too much the 3NT bid here, I would assume it was some kind of sigoff (perhaps wrong), but for me is a way to say NoNo to any slam try we may have. Now if partner open 12-14 actually there is never a slam, but if he is a just a bit stronger I would like to investigate futher. Not having any specific the agrement with partner about the 3NT in this situation, in fact we are starting on SAYC, so don't really known what that would mean in that system. About the opening, we are more or less strick on that, using a bit both rule of 20 and LTC to open hands, and partner is even a bit more conservative on this than I. So I known he probably will have a nice opening hand (almost never 10, rare 11, sure 12). ty Pedro -
Hi all, Faced yet with another problem at the table... Dealer: West Vul: None Scoring: IMP ♠ KQT ♥ A73 ♦ K95 ♣ QJ87 West North East South Pass 1♠ 3♥ ? Well soo many thing I want to show and so little space to show them :) why do they invent op's at this times :) If no overcall, I would have also a hard time describing the hand, perhaps a 2♣ then jumping in spades. Jacoby2NT would need 1 more trump sure my 3 are of very good quality, nevertheless prefer not to cheat on partner on this issues :) Now the 4♣ bid seem out of the way, I need to show support right away and somehow the strenght of the hand... if it was a simple overcall... Pass 1♠ 2♥ 3♥ Would show support and strenght, so at the table I decide to cuebid also, partner can still decide to bid 4♠ or investigate slam if we wish. Can you all please tell me what other possibilities I had? Ty for all the enlightening answers Pedro

Prempt or not Prempt that is the question...
PedroG replied to PedroG's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
Hi all, I think it's fair that I show the whole hand... [hv=d=n&v=e&n=saqj65htdt65ck864&w=s94h93dqj432cjt73&e=st832h754da8caq95&s=sk7hakqj862dk97c2]399|300|Scoring: IMP[/hv] West North East South - Pass Pass 3♥ Pass Pass Pass TY for your help Pedro -

PedroG replied to Orla's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
Hi, IMHO. and that is from a beginner, in SAYC you bid up-the-line, so you show your lowest 4card suit first... Some play showing the major first by-passing diamonds. but think it's non-standard. ty Pedro -
Prempt or not Prempt that is the question...
PedroG replied to PedroG's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
Thank you for all the nice and very nice answers... Sure with this hand on 1/2 seat it's a clear 1♥ open. And understand the need to bid 4♥ if decide to prempt. Like you all said I taken my partner out of this biding with the 3♥. It was a interresting hand Pedro -
Hi, Assuming that ♣ break nice for us :(, we have 3 possible loser in ♠ and still de K♥... play low planing to take with the Q♥, if that doesn't fall for me, I will have to rely on K♠ for the extra trick... Pedro
-
I'm curios on that comment... And be learning would like some comments on it, Is it really a bad system SAYC? Let's assume that is played well, like all systems if not played well it's bad :P I read the book "Standard bidding with SAYC", and I'm following it's advices on the simple gadgets to add to my CC. Splinters + Capp + NMF + 1430 Last still on the reading stage is Lebensohl What I would like to known is what make it bad or good for a beginner :D ty PEdro

Responding to a opening 2C
PedroG replied to PedroG's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
;) I understand what you mean, I'm new to bridge, just been playing for less than 2 month's, so I decide that I should put Novice on my skill level. I think it's a warning to anyone that wish to play with me. The problem with skill level at BBO, is that there are ppl that don't ever want to play with Begginers or Novices because they think they are much better... A few days back someone told me to change my skill level if I wanted someone to play with me, and he is right, if you put Novice on your profile you tend to be the one who always make the mistake, even if your casual pd is the one that provokes it. And get a lot of ppl that say incredible things to you like they were experts, like a Adv that open 1NT with 20HCP, and when I asked why, because we landed in 3NT when we had probably more, he said to me that I didn't known a thing, that I should go and learn first (In that he is right). Note : just found the game (Unusual NT :) :) My decision is that the skill level is a tool for me, and even if it brings me some problems it should reflect what I think is my skill level, and I will not change to be able to play with better players :( :( Even if that makes me a bit sad. I think we could make like a two level, one choosed by the player and another based on the users that the player has played with... Ty Pedro -

Yes Yes, I understand go slow, my first click was on the 7 soo I think 3 was quite slow ;) :P But yes I see now that 2♥, facing a real 2♣ would be the best bid... TY Pedro -
