Sorry, wrong wording. It doesn't have a negative effect on my game, I just meant that I don't focus very much because there are just so many other things going on around me. The lack of concentration made me feel as if playing online isn't improving my game, but that's untrue. It's just not improving my game as much as if I were playing f2f. But I'm not complaining :)

Bidding over a Preempt

I don't think passing is remotely an option -
I would if I had the heart ace instead of the club ace. I think I might anyway... Edit: Lol, is that an edit? I don't remember reading that comment in your first post, maybe I just didn't look very far.

In Soviet Russia, the game loses you!
-
Obviously worth a GF... I don't know too many fancy systems, with some partners I splinter, and with others I just bid 4H. If there is a slam here, partner will move again.

Leading lowest without an honor
goobers replied to Wackojack's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
At suit contracts, I think it's standard to lead low from 3 small. At NT I lead a high card from a suit that I don't want returned. If you lead high, partner won't know if you have 2 or 3 (or maybe 4?)... and I think it's easier to figure out when a small lead is 4th or just small from xxx. -
Bidding over a Preempt

Have to act. I wouldn't consider anything but doubling. -
Specifically the Linux penguin. You get to be a bird AND dress fancy; sweet deal!

The 5 card suit isn't enough for me to risk bidding 6N, I only have 15 so I pass.
-
In the original post, he states they play Lebensohl here, so 3N should deny the stop. I'd take the bump to 5C... it sounds like I may lose both hearts, but so be it.

Playing online, I don't care about table talk of this type unless I'm in some sort of tourney. Having your opps play in the dark with regard to bidding isn't all that fun or sportsmanly in my opinion. But really, the fact is that it's online bridge, and it really doesn't matter.
-
I've never played Lebensohl here (pardon the newbie speaking), but as I understand it, doesn't partner deny a good hand? We have a 19 count, but if partner has an awful hand (this is what this convention is for, right?), then we're surely not making anything, and we just accept the relay.

do you ask for aces?
goobers replied to jocdelevat's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
Why blast 7? Is GSF non standard? If we can ask partner about the top 2 trumps, why don't we? If partner has the HA and not the DA, you won't get it right after keycard either. -
Well if you're not sure if it's a transfer...

Why did we miss game ?

Would people consider a takeout double with the N hand? It would make a little easier to find, I guess. -
Not only that, it also doesn't look like much of a Lightner x either.

Well, for starters, the more values your partner has shown, the more useful that stiff K is going to be. If partner opens 2NT, then you should be fairly optimistic about your card. If your opps have bid a suit where you have a short holding to an honor (Qxx is really good example), then you should devalue it, especially if they raise. It is not going to be very good on offense, but may score a trick on defense, for example. Stiff honors in partner's primary suit is a good thing (well, not as good as real support, but yeh), singleton Q will often fit well in partner's 5+ card suit, even a stiff J can be a great card if partner puts down something like AKQxx. If what you're looking for is a mathematical calculation (I should subtract 2 points for this holding but add 1 for that etc etc), I doubt that it exists, and if it does, I imagine it's such a big headache that nobody will be using it all the time anyway. Just think to yourself how your hand started out (I have an invitational hand and pard opened and showed 2 suits where I have fitting honors, so I should upgrade and move to game, or I have invitational hand, but opps bid and raised my suit where I hold QJx, so I should be cautious), and that'll probably be okay.

I imagine you're asking with regard to a hand like J KQTxxx Ax xxx I've wondered the same myself too... for example, what would you open this first seat?

In response to Ben's post, no gadgets here, just standard bidding. At the table, the auction went 1♦ - 1♥ 3♦ - 3♠ 3N - tank, pass At the table, both players were unsure whether a direct raise from 3♦ to 4♦ would be forcing, but after some thought, it's clear that it should be. Would it be reasonable to bid 4♦ after 3N to also indicate slam interest? Although would this would give the impression of being 4531?

[hv=n=saxxxhkqjxxdaxcxx&s=sqhaxdkqjtxxxckxx]133|200|[/hv] South deals. (By the way, I've added extra spacing to line up the suits, but the forum autocorrects this. How do you stop it from doing that?) Edit: Put in hand diagram

How do we know 2♠ was psychic?

How to describe vulnerabilities

binary ftw -
When you pass and opps reach their cold heart game, next time you'll know not to pass (that's how I learned!)
-
Yeah, the bidding is a bit suspect... partner actually had 5-5 majors, and your LHO failed to raise diamonds holding a 7 count with KJxx in support.
-
Favorable, IMPs 2nd seat. You hold: Kxxx ATxx xx Qxx p - p - 1♦ - 1♠ p - 2♦ - 3♦ - 3♥ 4♦ - 4♠ - p - p 5♦ 2♦ is a frisky (in my opinion B) ) spade raise. Was kibbing this hand... so say you know partner is 55 majors on this bidding. The double fit is revealed; what would you do? I'll reveal all the hands later. I think there would've been a much different auction with stronger players, but it's still interesting, at least to me.
