I don't really understand, if your agreement is that 2♥ shows like 10 HCP, then don't you have an automatic pass here? I hate this agreement, but if I had it with my partner, I would adhere to it (well, on paper anyway.)

Diamond seems natural to me. Surely the odds are better that partner will ruff a diamond instead of a spade.

...checks BBF compulsively at work?

17 points, 6 hearts

omg can this thread die? Responder's rebid after 1N in standard is absolutely NF. One reference that wasn't cited was Richard Pavlicek (www.rpbridge.com) who clearly also teaches that a new suit by responder after opener's 1N rebid is NF... And how can there even be a discussion whether 1C - 1S 1N - 2H is forcing or not? -
This is a splinter if you've agreed splinters... I get the feeling 3H is natural. I'm done here.

For the hands posted with 4-4 majors, wouldn't hearts be bid first?
-
Hi everyone, I was fiddling around with precision, and some questions came up... 1C - 1D 1S - 2H 3S What is that jump? Also, 1C - 2D 2S - 2N Does 2N limit? What does it show in terms of shape/values? Thanks, I know these are not the most thought provoking of problems ;)

Stayman with a advance player

General word of caution Pedro: Listen when other players offer advice, but do not accept it for truth until you have verified it. Everyone's an expert on BBO. -
Stayman with a advance player

Yeah, everyone's doing it. You want to be cool, DON'T YOU!?!? -
Immediate 3S tends to show 4 trumps. If you play a 1NT forcing, you can jump at next round to show a 3 card limit raise. Otherwise, bidding a new suit, and then raising the major also tends to show a 3 card limit raise. 1♠ - 2♣ 2♥ - 2♠ would be a 3 card limit raise for us standard folks. (3S would not be a limit raise, 3S is forcing.)

Stayman with a advance player

2NT does not exist playing regular Stayman. (Playing pickup, I would just assume that partner meant to bid 2D, but rest assured, opener is NOT allowed to bid 2NT here.) Your best practical bid after 2N would probably just be 3N. -
Actually I just had another thought, is 3N an option? All my values are outside the spade suit, I have no ruffing value... partner can always pull to 4S if he wishes.

Do it!

interesting situation for a natural system

4♣ is Gerber! -
I still have no idea what 2H means, and I would not try this without explicit agreement with partner.
-
Do experts bid 2 card suits to set up a GF when you have a 5 card suit headed by the AK and 4 card trump support for partner?
-
Hand 1: 3H is absolutely forcing. You are in a game force. Anything you do is forcing. Bid 3H to set trump, and you're off to 7H or something. Hand 2: I'd just bid 3S. 3C should establish a GF. I would not open 2C, but I'm a very traditional 2C opener.

Okay, I don't understand. What DOES 2♥ show here by a passed hand?

Laods of Spades, not many points
goobers replied to DWM's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
As an aside, if you bid spades later, hopefully partner won't consider it a FNJ :) -
Playing structured reverses, 2h over 2d is weakish 5+. If this hand had 5Hearts but only 2clubs, then you would bid 2s...4sf game forcing. If you prefer that here then: 1c=1h 2d=2s 3c=4c 4d(rkc) etc I believe another option playing structured reverses (I don't really remember anymore) is to jump to 3H, showing 10+, 5♥.

What is the point of this? To conserve space in the keycard responses so you don't get shoved into a slam if partner answers too high? Also, where does the name kickback come from?
-
I give up! I post questions in the A/E forum and I'm told the questions are more suitable for the B/I forum, I post questions in the B/I forum and I either get told the question is too difficult to answer in the B/I thread or we get dumbed down answers! B)
-
Okay, I've heard kickback all over the place, and I have no idea what it is. It looks like some form of keycard... how exactly does it operate? Also, lacking any agreements, I would probably just bid 6♣ (don't ask me what I'd do if LHO comes over with 6M...)
-
Holy crap. Double for me would be penalty-ish, showing something like a balanced 10 count, and willing to double at least one of their suits. You would probably need some agreements (unusual vs unusual) to show a forcing club raise such as this...
