  1. I've always thought that a minimum re-bid at the 2-level on a lower-ranking suit (than your opening suit) doesn't show extras, just shape. I've always preferred to show 9 cards than 6 (or 5 as someone said) and I respect tha fact that the suit quality may sway you in a 6-card suit rebid but in a 2/1 situation (whether SAYC or 2/1 system being played) I don't think that's even neccessary.
  2. You're almost sure to have a 9-card fit in clubs. You have excellent cards in partner's second suit. I agree that partner being a passed hand doesn't really seem like a good idea, but I thought the vulnerability was fine. Partner's hand: ♠ATxx ♥Qxx ♦x ♣KT98x Opps probably got you then, for they both strained their values: [hv=pc=n&w=sjxxxhtxxxxxdacxx&e=sxxhakdkqjt9xxcqj]266|100[/hv] So I bet you'd go down one if you start with the ♣A or just make if you believe them to be point-counters.
  3. Did North just really bid 5♥? An underbid is not a good name for that. I think North should bid 5♠ and if South then bids 6♦ they may get to the grand. But I bet it'd go down on a spade lead... So hopefully 5♠-6♦-6♥ would finish the bidding.
  4. Red vs White, imp pairs: ♠A9xxx ♥KQT ♦Jxx ♣Qx 3♦-???
  5. [hv=pc=n&s=saj7652hqt76d2ca2&n=skt3hakdj98543ck9&d=s&v=b&b=7&a=1sp2dp2sp4sppp]266|200[/hv] Should North overvalue his hand and bid KC over 2♠? Imp pairs.
  6. [hv=pc=n&s=skq4hj5d7532ca762&d=n&v=0&b=1&a=p1dp1hd3d]133|200[/hv] Is 4♣ ok, or too much? Imp pairs.
  7. [hv=d=n&v=0&b=1&a=pp1cp1sp1nppdp2hd]133|100[/hv] Is the last double for take-out? Is it for penalty? [hv=d=n&v=0&b=1&a=1npp2cppd]133|100[/hv] Is the double for penalty? (What would 2♥ mean instead of double?) What if you play that after a NT bid all doubles are for penalties (ugly isn't it?) And what are DSI doubles? Where can I find info about them? What about 'look at your hand and decide' doubles?
  8. Pa-1♦-2♣-Pa 2NT-Pa-Pa-X Does it show a hand where you were willing to pass 2♣X? Does it show something else?
  9. Is that 10-16? I'd prefer 1♥ and then diamonds, but if that's a possible hand and so is Qx Axxx AKxxx xx, then a jump shouldn't be used for such a wide range.
  10. Bidding goes: 1♠-2NT (Jacoby) 3NT (non-minimum without singleton)-6NT 1. After putting 6NT on the table the player says 'No!', s/he takes the 6NT card from the bidding cards leaving the 6♠ showing and calls the Director. S/he says 'I meant to bid 6♠'. 2. After putting 6NT on the table, but before LHO makes a call, the player calls the Director and s/he says 'I meant to bid 6♠'. 3. After putting 6NT on the table, and after all have passed, the player calls the Director and s/he says 'I meant to bid 6♠'. It's a imp pairs tourney. The 6NT player has a 5-card fit with a doubleton queen. How do you rule?
  11. North should give it another try in my opinion.
  12. [hv=pc=n&w=shqj75dakj8762ck4&e=sajha9dq53caqt762&d=s&v=b&b=7&a=p1d1s2cp2h2s3cp3dp3nppp]266|200[/hv][hv=pc=n&w=shqj75dakj8762ck4&e=sajha9dq53caqt762&d=s&v=b&b=7&a=1d4sdppp]266|200[/hv]
  13. MP, Both red: ♠AKTxx ♥K ♦Ax ♣AKQJx
  14. Red vs White, Mp's ♠KQJ9xxx ♥Kxx ♦Q ♣KQ 1♦-Pa-Pa-??? 1NT-Pa-Pa-??? Both scenarios were offered to the Easts in today's tourney, what would you do?
  15. Your side can score if the hand it's played but it's easy to go overboard.
  16. Both red: ♠AK ♥AQT8xxx ♦Qx ♣AT 1♥-Pa-1NT*-2♦ ??? Is 4♥ advisable here? In general, on what should 1M-1NT-4M or 1♥-1♠-4♥be bid?
  17. [hv=pc=n&w=sqt87642hadq5ct83&e=s9hkqj753da94caj6&d=n&v=0&b=1&a=p1hp1sp2hp2sp2np3sp4sppp]266|200[/hv] You could say West got what he deserved. The contract couldn't be made but, was this the right level or strain? Was it the right sequence? Should East jump to 3♥ to show a better than minimum hand? Would West be then advised to raise? Is 2♠ passable? I've always thought 2♠ should show a better than minimum hand for responder can pass 2♥ with most bad hands. Is 3♠ over 2NT correct? Is 4♠ good?
  18. All white, imp pairs: ♠x ♥AQJ98xx ♦J ♣AQ32 Pa-1♠-???
  19. A splinter? Our clubs don't seem to match the meaning, but what else? 4♦.
  20. I have such a bad hand. My strength is in my singleton in partner's prime suit and three honours and another card in the opponents suit. I pass and expect them to go down.
  21. [hv=pc=n&w=sak2h32dakj2caqt2&e=s43h654dqt9543c43&d=e&v=e&b=6&a=p1hd1sp2hdp3dp3hp4dppp]266|200[/hv] No, we don't play lebensohl here. Would that have helped?
  22. I don't think it's an easy decision. West could double in order to go more slowly, but then he might get partner excited with clubs (granted, he would then resort to NT). East could also bid 4♦ over 3NT, and I think I like this action a little more. Hard to say who could have done better.
  23. Really? Declarer won the club lead in hand, drew another round and ruffed two spades in his hand before entering the table and drawing the last trump to claim 13 tricks. This seems better than setting up hearts.
  24. Partner held ♠x ♥KJ9xx ♦AQx ♣AJxx. Only one pair got to the club slam, all the others went to hearts where only 11 tricks were available. 1♥-1♠ was the beginning of their bidding. 2♣ by opener followed by KC. 16 imp's for them. After 2♣-3♣ responder has to give up hearts which isn't easy.
  25. All white, imp pairs: ♠KJxx ♥KT987xxx ♦ ♣J You're the dealer. Automatic 4♥ opening?
