I've been thinking on using a Master Solvers' Club (from the Bridge World) set of problem from the 60's and how useful could it be. I think bidding has evolved a lot in bridge and many ideas would be wasted or erroneous. Another section, like Challenge the Champs, could be very good at any time, for the 'right' contract for two hands would usually be the same no matter what. So, how long would you say the MSC lasts? 5 years? 10 years? 2 years?
Mp's, you're red, they're white: ♠A ♥xx ♦Jxxxx ♣AQTxx 2♥-X-4♥-5♣ 5♥-??? I know double is not correct, but let's say it just came out of the bidding box before you could notice it. Do you double, pass or bid 6♣?

After 12 tricks this came: [hv=pc=n&w=sqt632hqt82dajtc3&e=skj85hak63dcaq986&d=e&v=0&b=14&a=1cp1sp4sppp]266|200[/hv] The diamond splinter was not 'available', can it still be reached? After the diamond splinter, would you continue (how?)?
So, your partner opens 1NT and the next player pre-empts naturally at the 3 level. What are you to do? There's another topic covering the question of whether to use a bid a transfer or texas, but what is the best use for the double? Would 3NT show or deny the stopper? can we 'just' compete at the three (or four?) level? I use the same structure of the 4-level for this situations, so in theory I won't have a problem if they 'psych' but is this reason enough for that treatment?
Wasn't it possible for Rodwell to have JTxx in hearts? Would he have taken a long time to give the signal then? Would Meck have shifted if the play/signal from Rodwell had been made in tempo?
I just heard about what happened in the hand. I now think there's some reason for the Diamond team to feel offended. I would have pretty much preferred that the Director ruled against Meckwell and that the committee changed the result afterward (if that is the correct ruling) but I sincerely wouldn't let a player go free after thinking without any reason. Of course, this is just my opinion, and I'm not in said team or director's group or committee, so it doesn't really matter.
[hv=pc=n&s=sakqj32h86d5cqj83&n=s4haqj943dkj3c762&d=e&v=e&b=6&a=p1sp2h3d3sp3nppp]266|200[/hv] 3NT goes down (on good defense). So does 4♥. 4♠ is easier. You're playing MP's. Is the actual bidding sequence acceptable? Would you bid it differently using SAYC? How would this be bid using 2/1?
Yesterday, playing MP's, at unfavorable vulnerability, my partner faced this hand: [hv=pc=n&w=sakqj7hkq6dkj2cj3&d=s&v=e&b=3&a=p]133|200[/hv] Playing 12-20 1-level openings, 20-21 2NT opening (with puppet stayman), what would you open and why?
