  1. If I double and then bid diamonds (over ♣'s) my partner might think I have a 17+ hand. 3♥ it's an option, although partner might bid spades with only 3 (or even Qx. I'm leaning towards 3♦.
  2. Why did partner bid 3♥ instead of 2? I play this as saying, 'Partner, heart is the suit we're gonna play in, no matter what you have' and in that case 3NT would be 'I have a K or singleton somewhere (in support to hearts)'. If you play this way 4♥ is a mistake I see no way of fixing now. I'd just bid 6♥.
  3. Double & 4♦, although in an unlucky day it might not be good. Pass over 1♠ is a crime.
  4. I'd redouble, planning to double them in a minor suit contract.
  5. If you don't like it offer your idea for a change here: http://forums.bridgebase.com/index.php?showtopic=31074
  6. Most people play it as 10 or 11+ so it's not neccessarily forcing to game. Opener has to rebid though so it's forcing for at least a round.
  7. If I'm not mistaken the deluge story appears in several cultures, so it might have some truth to it, the truth being, IMO, that there were floods which wiped out lots of people except for some who had 'ships' and they were the ones able to save others. I think I even watched a program where they showed evidence of an inmense flood ocurring somewhere around present-day Turkey. I think taking things from any book and stating that they are facts without proving them with other data is just wrong. It's like reading a fable and believing animals used to talk in the past, is like reading and listening to anyone and believing everything they write or say. There are many sides to every story. Some people even deny facts from History, some historians add make-up to facts in order to embelish them and not to use any 'Universal' history fact: In Venezuela's independence war there was this country man who led other country men into battle. In one famous battle they were being chased by the Royalists who happened to fall into a ditch or something like that. The country man leader shouted something to the troops so that they were back into the fray and they did, winning an important battle. Venezuelan history books claim the country man shouted 'Turn your faces back!' (Vuelvan caras!), while some people argue that the guy wouldn't use such a refined vocabulary and that the troopers wouldn't understand it either. He probably said 'Go f****** back!' (Devuelvanse, carajo!) or something like that. Anyway, people should just try to get the deep meaning from anything they read not just the surface stuff.
  8. Food chain rank Bridge plays rank (where sure trick is the first and some kind of squeeze is the last) Contract rank (from 1♣ to 7NTxx) Distribution rank (from 4333 to 13000) I'm back to work...

    1000!!

I hope to achive that before July. I don't know whether it's good or bad. Kuddos to you.
  10. Hm, 3NT. I don't want to get scientific or anything, I just bid what I think we have, partner can take us out of it if he prefers a contract in a minor I suppose. 3♥ is my other choice and I pass partner's response.
  11. Yeah, I guess, but I lost 76 imps (cavendish).
  12. [hv=d=e&v=n&n=skqxhkqxdaxckjtxx&s=s87xxha8xxdkqxcax]133|200|Scoring: XIMP[/hv] I stopped at 4NT.
  13. Let's say you open 2♣ and they overcall, what are your partner's options? Let's say they overcall before you can describe your strong hand, what are your options? Is there a way to ask for a stopper? Does NT mean something different? What's a good agreement in this situation(s)?
  14. [hv=d=s&v=n&n=s9xhkj9xxdxcjt9xx&s=sakqj87haxdkjxckx]133|200|Scoring: XIMP[/hv] We're currently playing a Cavendish tournament and this hand caused a lot of trouble. 1. The bidding: Should South open 2♣? How should it go? After: 2♣ 2♥ 2♠ 3♣ ??? After: 2♣ 2♦ X* 2♠ ??? * Double shows a possitive hand 2. The Play: At most tables where 4♠ was the final contract West led a diamond to the ace and: - A spade came back, showing East with 5 trumps to the 10. - A small club came back. - A diamond came back (West holds the King) What's the best line to get 10 tricks?
  15. I might be influenced by the moon or a bad night sleep. How 'serious' are my partner's pre-empts? If he's on the light side I might agree to double, but if partner should have at least 6HCP then I'm leaning towards 3NT. In fact, it might be easier to make 3NT than to defeat 3♠x, sometimes... My diamond stopper could be: * Txxx, Qxx, Kx(x...), A(x...) in partner's hand. * Blocked diamonds * Diamonds are not led or switched to. So count me in for 3NT.
  16. As usual. I'm not sure if someone said it but: - 2NT=120 3♦=110 - The lead is probably a heart, is it better to have it through or towards partner's hand?
  17. How about winning the first trick and playing a small heart? If they return anything but a trump I get to ruff my two losers and if they return a trump I ruff a heart and reach: ♠AQ9 ♥ ♦ ♣9 ♠2 ♥ ♦T ♣Tx As I'm playing RHO to have the ♠K I'll watch his discards and if it isn't safe to lead a club and promote my 10 (no ♣Q or ♣K has shown up), I'll just lead my last diamond tossing the spade 9 from the table to either endplay RHO or drop his singleton ♠K.
  18. I'm gonna play opener for the ♠Q, so I'll play ♠A and small to the agony.
  19. I also lead a heart, the 7 to comply with my agreements.
  20. Erm, didn't you realize that partner had opened 1♣? I think this should be regularly taken as RKCB for spades and rarely as a minors showing bid, but I'm not an expert...
  21. If 5♦ shows an Ace (key-card) then I bid that. If partner wanted to play NT because he had: a. Stoppers in hearts b. Stopper in heart and a running suit He should x with a and bid his suit or x with b. I guess I wouldn't have opened with a weak 2 bid. If you change the ♦Q for the ♠J then it looks better to make a preemptive opening, but I agree with the bidding so far. ...And welcome to the forums...
  22. 6♣. I smell the ♦K to my left... I'm afraid 5NT might be taken wrongly (Josephine?) but if I don't have that sort of agreement, it might be a gooid way to reach the slam in a minor. 5NT could also lead to 6♠, there are 19HCP missing, opener should have at least 6 so partner's spades could be as good (or better) than my clubs. The real problem is who holds the ♦K, if partner, 7 is on; If they have it, we have to play in clubs (or diamonds)
