We use these bids as GF with exactly 4, a splinter in the other major, and tolerance (3+) each minor. Seems to work well.
-
I have another poll: let's say instead RHO had opened a major. Your call.
-
Did you mean: _,._ __.' _) <_,)'.-"a\ /' ( \ "Those suits are baa-aa-aa-d" _.-----..,-' (`"--^ // | (| `; , | \ ;.----/ ,/ ) // / | |\ \ \ \\`\ | |/ / \ \\ \ | |\ / `" `" `"`

Lets say North had bid 4♥ rather than 1. Is South now supposed to lead a heart? What if North had ♥KQJxxxx ♣Kxx ? How can North say "lead a heart"
-
agree with 5♦
-
3NT is certainly suggested by the UI
-
Adam didn't see that West was dealer I guess. 1♣-p-1♥-4♦ is a normal start. After that I could see it going a number of ways. -4♥-7♦-7♥ is possible. I sorta like the 7♦ bid in tempo because you might make or the opps might sacrifice since they're at fav. If it starts 1♣-p-4♥-5♦, West will bid 5♥, North might bid 7♦ as above or might bid 6 and then double 6♥. I'd say 6♥x is certainly the lowest possible contract, I bet this will happen about half the time.
-
Then S doubles 3NT, 500 should be an okay score. I think South will bid 4♠ catering to pard having KJxx KQxxx --- AKxx, he wont double 3NT. Could even be a double game swing.
-
I'm not sure how much my opinion counts since I have never played this style after a 2/1, but I would bid 3♠. My second choice is 4♣ since partner should have at least 4-6 minors with most of the values there.
-
5♣, a longshot but probably as good a shot to make as any other reachable contract.
-
Why? Isn't it normal? If partner leads a low one back you have no idea who has the queen. BTW it might be relevant that your 1D showed 2+ so partner doesn't know which minor you have (in terms of his lead etc). BTW 2: Dummy had Txx of hearts, and partner had Kxxx of hearts, and you had AJxx of hearts in the real hand. and I guess dummy had 5 clubs?
-
I did read justin's note about the mistake in the OP before posting this, so I'm assuming that dummy had xx Txx Kxx AJxxx, although ♥x lead from ♥KQxx is sort of wow As far as what to play, AKQJxxx xx Qxx x and AKQJxxx xx Q Qxx are both possible here if partner will lead T from Tx(x)(x). I'd assume since pard will lead Q from anything with the Q that he would (or at least might) lead count from a 3 or 4-card suit. Thus I would play low. I bet though that since this was posted as a problem that high is right and that pard had Txxx.
-
Shouldnt partner play the ♦Q if he has it from any holding looking at that dummy and this auction? So at least we know for sure who has the ♦Q.
-
North should double 3♦ but it's not auto IMO. Would not have considered a neg X with South's cards. Did South lead a spade at least?
-
(5) 3♣ wtp (i cant think of any alternative call) (6) spade
-
(3) I'm sure a lot of people will call this crazy but I would overcall, safer now than later, very close. (4) pass before this gets out of hand/doubled, hopefully pard will have a lot of extras edit: agree with not opening, but I would have opened with AKQxxx xxxxx majors
-
(1) seems like a system issue - if you're playing 3♣ as pass/correct then you correct, else you raise. (2) pass, I have more defense than I promised and no obvious great fit

[hv=d=w&v=e&n=sxxhakqjxxxdxcxxx&w=skjxxhtdakxxcajtx&e=saqtxxhxdxxxxxckx&s=sxxhxxxxdqjtcqxxx]399|300|Scoring: IMP[/hv] Auction: (1♦)-1♥-(1♠)-3♥ (4♥)-5♥-(6♦)-pass (6♠)-all pass Lead: small club. North says bad lead, duh. South says bad luck, what if East had AQxxx Ax xxx xxx instead? what if West had 5-3 minors and East had AQxxx Ax xxxx xx? NS are playing intermediate jump overcalls so (1♦)-2♥ would not have been an option for North in these cases.

Results: 1. I passed. They played in 3♠ when we're cold for 4♦. Presumably no one would bid over 3♥ retransfer p 3♠. 2. Usually my approach to such a hand is to bid the first time, but today I was in a weird mood and passed throughout, partially because my RHO at the time is a very sound bidder and I thought the risk of 200 was quite high. In fact RHO had a 17 count and they are cold for 3NT, but we would have made 3♠. They can only make 9 tricks in hearts. 3. This auction didn't occur at the table. Had this auction occurred, I would have bid 2♠, which partner would correct to 2NT (1255 10 count) and I would pass. 2♥ is -2, so passing the double is the winner.

Not by a passed hand. Does everyone agree that it does promise a rebid by an UPH?

Agree that this is a great situation for transfers.

2♠, I think this is enough to force game.
