  1. If I knew pard had a maximum weak two with heart support then I would be way more excited about grand than in this auction.
  2. There may be a danger of dummy getting overruffed, so I will bid only 3♥. I am balancing with 4♥ if LHO raises clubs.
  3. Lower end = something less than game forcing but more than total crap. The point of the post was to see what people would think lacking any more specific agreement.
  4. Expect nuts in terms of how good his hand is for playing in hearts, and would bid 4♣. If partner has x Kxx KQJxxx xxx then we want to be in slam.
  5. pass, i dont see a lot of tricks even though there may not be many fast losers
  6. 3♠ wtp they have a huge heart fit and we have some stuff
  7. I am OK with either 3♥ or 4♣. I would bid 3♥ if I knew I could bid a forcing 4♣ next.
  8. In an auction like 1♣-(2x)-Dbl*-(p) *negative which of opener's rebids are forcing?
  9. How about this auction (1♦)-X-(p)-2♦ (X)-2♥-(p)-4NT-etc
  10. If this is a takeout double, why didn't we double 1♣?
  11. I would win ♠Q, lead a diamond to the ♦10, and then upon their club return lead the ♦K. This tends to put LHO on lead a little more often than low diamond, which is what I want.
  12. I'd pass. This hand will be great when we have a spade fit, but not so good otherwise. I don't want to get partner too excited.
  13. Perhaps an explanation for South's bidding is that he meant to bid 3♠ splinter (or generic strong raise) rather than 3NT, but he pulled the wrong card =) Given that explanation, the rest of South's bidding actually makes sense! 3/4 blame to 3NT and 1/4 blame to 6NT, for the reasons Adam said.
  14. But surely we will bid diamonds at our next call, whatever the auction is.
  15. I bet it's exclusion and he thought it wouldnt be on after Texas bc it wouldnt be a jump bid. Anyway I'd bid 6♠.
  16. The one time I had a 10-bagger my hand was AKxxxxxxxx --- Kxx ---. I passed in 1st chair, white/red, and it went (1♣)-2♦-(2♥) back to me. I bid 6♠, LHO tanked and took a phantom (!?!) sacrifice in 7♣x -2.
  17. 1♠ has great preemptive effect. For instance you're LHO and you have Ax KJxx xx KQxxx, your call. Unless P also has a 4-card major with 10+ hcp ...-(1♦)-2♣-(p), your call ...-(1[CL)-1♦-(1♥)-2♣-(3♣)....pard is 4252 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drury_convention ...-(1NT)-P-(3NT), happy? 1♠ opening directs a good lead (leading is hard), preempts them out of the 1-level (bidding after opps open is usually harder), and won't get us too high since pard is a PH, and we're even NV at MPs so -1 or -2 may be a good score. Remove some of these horses and it's no longer a clear opener.
  18. I wouldn't do it red/red either, fearing down 2 undoubled.
  19. I would rebid 3♣ whether it showed extras or not, though this is pushing it if it does.
