  1. 2♣. You have 3 chances to win here (any of the 3 suits might be better than NT) and only one chance to lose (NT is better than all the suits).
  2. I'd pass 4♥ after 2Ning and 4♣ing. I might have passed instead of 4♣ing.
  3. Partner is going to lead his stronger minor if we don't double, which is exactly what we want.
  4. 2NT, even if we have 6 running clubs we still need one more trick for 3NT.
  5. I would open 1♥ and rebid 2NT.
  6. Partner had ♠AKQT ♥A ♦xxx ♣QT9xx, so game is making unless ♠Jxxx is offside, the weak jumpshift has the ♣K, or LHO has 4-6-1-2 shape. I only bid 3♠, and 4♠ was cold at the table.
  7. East can (to get a club lead) and did at the other table.
  8. I don't think it proves anything.
  9. Unsurprisingly, overcalling works out poorly: [hv=d=w&v=n&n=sxxhktdtxxxcakqxx&w=sakhxxxdajxctxxxx&e=sqtxxxxxhxxxdqxxc&s=sjxhaqjxxdk9xcjxx]399|300|Scoring: IMP[/hv] EW can take 4♥ down four on good defense. They have to double to win more than 1 IMP, however, as South will likely lead diamonds against a spade contract. It's interesting to note that if West opens a Precision 1♦, 4♥x will be a very likely contract for N-S.
  10. If you passed, the auction continues: (1♣)-1♦-(pass)-pass (Dbl)-Rdbl-(1♥)-?
  11. [hv=d=n&v=n&n=skxxhkqxxxdkcjxxx&w=saqtxxhatxxdjxxcq&e=sxxxhjxxdaqxcxxxx&s=sjxhxdt9876xcaktx]399|300|Scoring: IMP[/hv] I balanced with 3♦ which went -2. I think this was a push.
  12. To clear things up, I was 100% sure it was their hand and that we would either be sacrificing or defending. Would you still bid 4♠? Even if you did that I think they would double, you'd bid 5♦ and the auction would continue as stated.
  13. In theory any strength. This was never a forcing auction for our side. He didn't have to bid 3♥; it's not like 3♦ would have denied a 6-5 hand or anything.
  14. Who said I lost? Also my opinion on Flannery is that it isn't poor when it comes up, it just wastes a valuable bid.
  15. bumping this thread since it was lost to the second page just hours after it was posted perhaps if i post many threads at once i should spread them across two different forums?
  16. I decided that this hand had insufficient values even for a Precision 1♦ opener (playing 14-16 NT). My decision was irrelevant on the actual deal. LHO opened Flannery and they played 2♥ making.
  17. You wouldn't bid NV over a 2♠ opening on your right either? (assume partner isn't a passed hand, which is is sort of not here).
  18. If by "shows this hand" you mean "pick a minor", then no. However double "shows this hand" If you meant anything more specific (for instance, showing a preference for one minor over the other), then there is no call that shows this hand.
  19. Obviously there are significant risks to taking a non-pass call, but if we pass, won't partner frequently have a weak notrump hand and pass this auction out? Is defending 2♠ really our best spot in such a case?
  20. Well, there is some danger that partner can't balance either and we will defend 2♠ making when we could make 3♥. It's not like partner is going to learn anything substantial from opener's pass. Perhaps this would have been a better matchpoint problem.
