  1. Theres something to be said for a 3♠ overcall. I'd probably just bid 3NT at the table.
  2. Club lead sets 3 right, +500? I'd say based loosely on that, 75% to the opening lead against 7♣ and 25% to the hand who failed to preempt. If you preempt you might get out in 5♣x or 6♣x.
  3. Partner should not be overcalling 1NT after a major opening with 14 pts. Im making the normal bid which is to game force and if this is too high then it's pard's fault. Given the options, either 3NT or 2NT....3NT seems fine. It does feel like NT but the second sequence might be better. Passing 1NT? inviting in clubs? LOL
  4. I would always open 2h with either card unless i had agreed to play very destructive preempts at favorable. I dont understand a lot of people who find reasons not to preempt....maybe he would look at xx AQxxxx Kxx Jx and say "too much defense" or "too many flaws" or something I was asking, since you cant read the guys mind, what are the chances he would fail to preempt if he had the king? I was rejecting the explanation that he would never preempt with the king because of hand strength. Not a great question anyway. Feel free to ignore me.
  5. Well, its a conservative opp who is a teammate of mine sometimes. I think he would open 2h with the king . edit: obviously nothing is 100% here.....how much more likely is he to hold the J than K I thought about 3:2 at the table
  6. RHO opened 2♥ first seat favorable at MPs. He has: ♠98 ♥AQ8752 ♦?83 ♣J2 The missing card may be the king or jack. The only relevant thing I can think of from the bidding or play is that this expert player gave a (correct) count signal in diamonds looking at Q1072 on dummy when the 2 was led. What are the odds that the missing card is the ♦K vs the ♦J?
  7. MPs. (1♠)-pass-(2♠)-pass-(3NT)-all pass 85 K1082 J1094 Q74 (1) whats your lead (2) assume you lead the ♦J, dummy appears: 1093 9764 A85 A85 Declarer plays low from dummy, partner plays the ♦2 (encouraging), and declarer wins the ♦K. Now declarer rattles off ♠AKQxx. Partner had ♠J74, he plays 7,4,J (Smith). What are your pitches on the last three spades? Also no one is hesitating this hand except for (possibly) you, so think fast.
  8. I was wondering when someone would point this out. The hand was pretty funny. If you do anything other than pass, you will go for at least 500. (not that this means anything)
  9. 4♣, insurance against partner having 0445 shape. If that's true then 3♠ and 4♣ both might make. Could be turning a plus into a minus; willing to accept that.
  10. Win the lead in dummy lead a club to their ♣A. Assume they return a heart (no return better). Win in hand, trump to dummy (discovering the break) and ruff a club. Now cash two spades. If neither is ruffed, you're home. If they are 3-1, cash the third high spade, trump to dummy, draw trumps and claim. If they're 2-2, play a trump to dummy, draw the last trump pitching the third high spade from hand. Now dummy's spades are good.
  11. I'd reverse, but I wouldn't without the ♠10.
  12. What do you consider a max for the inv J/S? What do you consider a min? edit: obviously the queens hand is a min edit: you can bid 4♦ RKC and you have ways to get out in 4NT
  13. I'd go with 4♥. Partner isn't going to balance as aggressively at all red / IMPs as he would in other situations. I've also been brought up in the invite aggressively / accept conservatively school of thought at red IMPs. Invite should say "we can make game if you have nuts" I think this hand is a little better than that. edit: I wouldn't have balanced with partner's actual hand
  14. opps silent, NV IMPs 1♦-3♣-? ♠AK10x ♥Ax ♦Kxxx ♣Axx 3♣ was invitational
  15. 2♠ isn't really an option since that is invitational. You have to bid 3♠ or 1♠ then compete.
  16. 3♠. This is weak. I think it is almost impossible for this to be too high on this hand.
  17. 1. pass 2. 6♠ 3. 6♦ if partner could have bid a natural 4♦ over the preempt; pass if partner could have been doubling to show a 3♦ overcall of 3♣. 6♦ if not sure.
  18. If I was playing with a random expert, I would take both 3♥ and 3♠ as stopper showing. Even though they've only "bid" hearts, both of these suits are in play.
  19. I'd double if this is a pair that can be trusted to remember their agreements. Otherwise I'd pass.
  20. 4♥ was obviously the silly bid here. I'd insist on slam with that hand, starting with a 5♦ cue. The hand probably can't pass pard's 6♣ bid though....
  21. X..3N, 5c, and X all seem pretty auto to me.
  22. MPs, all red QJ5 AQJ973 A6 A8 (2NT*)-pass-(3♣)-??? * 10-13 HCP x4x6+ How would you react to this bizzare situation? No prealert was required for this convention, so you haven't discussed a defense.
