  1. 2♥ either way, seems like a no brainer
  2. I blame the RKC call. 4♣ was enough of a slam try.
  3. IMPs, R/R Axxx AKx Kx xxxx (1♦)-X-(1♠)-2♣ (pass)-pass-(2♦)-2♥ (pass)-3♣-(pass)-pass (3♦)-???
  4. I bid 5♥. LHO bid 5♠, which came back to me. I bid 6♦, which was doubled but then they pulled to 6♠. Down 1 since no one has a red void. Pard had ♥Qx.
  5. If you played a low spade, this board is pard's fault. He should cash the ♣A and then play a minor suit card...not a third spade.
  6. Passing was the winning action. x KJx AJ9xx xxxx Axxx A QTxxxxx x I doubled...and they took their 13 top tricks on the non club lead ;) Looks like 5♠ was best if it gets doubled....not if they bid 6♦
  7. Wrong possibly, but how could my example partner hand: Ax,xx,AQJxx,Kxxx be 'ridiculous'. Would you be ridiculed for holding this hand? Would you bid on over 2D? Out there at IMPs, it's a not a bidding comp, you have to win on the night. hm, heart lead...spade shift 8 tricks even with diam 4-3
  8. Yes. It's a decent suit and the value of 2♣ is huge over their 1♦. If they opened 1♥ I'd double and if they opened 1♠ I'd pass.
  9. Forcing in std. Similar to 1x-1y-3x-3y, which is also forcing. These break the normal pattern of what is forcing, that's why they're confusing.
  10. 2♦....other calls seem ridiculous.
  11. I suspect most people would signoff in 6♠ after opener fails to show any diamond controls. Why does responder think there isnt a loser there? Doesnt mean signoff is right of course...just that people would do it.
  12. I think there should be different splinters for voids and singletons. Hands with voids become way easier to bid.
  13. eh, I dont like cuebidding. It feels natural to find out if pard has red shortness. I think bidding 4♣ then (assume pard signs off) 5♣ then let pard out if he signs off is OK too.
  14. On the way home from work I was actually thinking 1♠-6♠-7♠ was the simplest auction. If my pard raised me to 6♠ I guarantee I'd bid 7 with opener's hand.
  15. 5♠, expecting a make, possibly with an overtrick
  16. 1♠-2NT (Jacoby) 3♥-3♠ 4♣-4NT 5♥-6♦ (K/Q ask) 7♠-pass I think this is as simple as you're going to get. Responder should bid 6♦ rather than 5NT because he doesn't want to be in grand opposite Axxxx x Kxx AKxx. Opener should bid 7♠ because he has extras and can reasonably assume no losers. Responder can also bid Exclusion over 3♥ if you're playing that. I don't think with starting with any bid other than 2NT is going to be more helpful.
  17. Sorry, you actually have 9 hearts. My original post only contained 12 cards.
  18. I had this last night ♠--- ♥AJ98xxxxx ♦AK ♣xx IMPs, vul all white i thk 3♦-(4♣)-???
  19. 3NTE [hv=d=w&v=n&n=sa10876hq7d9765c82&w=sj4ha96da1084ca753&e=skq95hk854dj3cq64&s=s32hj1032dkq2ckj109]399|300|Scoring: IMP[/hv] On a club lead, declarer can easily come to 9 tricks. On a spade lead, the play is pretty interesting.
  20. See http://www.districtsix.org/WBL/Sol/2006/Sol0611.aspx problem 5 for a discussion of this issue.
  21. echo: "would you double with this?" field: "negative."
  22. QJ9xx J98xx xx x that seems like a bid to me
  23. I vote for 3♠ because it's all white MPs and my opps are not good. Even if it is wrong, they may fail to double me or misdefend or both.
  24. Keep in mind that it's a newcomer game. You should call the director as rarely as possible. That means if they do something technically wrong like an insufficient bid, bid out of turn, or revoke just let them take it back. If they are obviously doing something unethical that's a different story. Anyway back to the topic...I saw a document that I can no longer find that says the official policy is that hands like KQninth or QJtenth cannot be opened 2c but hands like AKQ9th can. Officially they need to have "or tricks" on their card under 2c. However, this is an unenforced rule. People can open 2c on anything they want unless they are obviously trying to steal. If it looks at all like the person is just making a bad bid, then directors are not going to adjust anything. I guarantee anyone playing in a newcomer game isn't in the "steal" mindset
