  1. I would have bid 6H. But reading the post 5H makes much more sense with this suit.
  2. Just failed to catch the reaction to this thread before it moved to page two.
  3. Ace of diamonds, draw trumps if I can - Ace,King, Jack - and ruff out spades if I can. Think again if trumps are four one.
  4. Just voted 4H. I don't believe accuracy is the issue. If four is over the top and I lose a part score swing, I'd do it again.
  5. 4S I don't consider doubling on this as an option.
  6. 1.Pass 2.4D 3.4H Maybe need to rethink 1., but right now no choice but to pass. On 2. I just like to be a simpleton. If I keep losing out to 3NT, I'll have to rethink. Partner says I can't splinter on singleton Ace. Not sure, but that's the current position.
  7. Definitely pass. Personally I alway open the longer suit.
  8. Partner has a redouble card in the box. There is no conceivable case for fielding.
  9. Odd problem since we apparently hold neither hand. I would expect the FrancesHinden interpretation of the two hands.
  10. I would have bid spade. Impossible to resist, with sort of contract winning possibilities, and discouraging the oppos.
  11. Ah better. The problem of showing long suits on marginal or less hands is a perennial feature of bidding systems. Hence JLalls comment is obtuse or offensive. Not sure what you are about.
  12. I think this post is total bullshit. Someone sounds like he needs to take a nap. Why would you think that, and why would you state it that way?? Is it hard to believe someone would be shocked that with good values and a 7!!! card suit on the side people are finding all sorts of random stuff to bid? Whoah Jdonn has weighed in with one of his asshole comments.
  13. I think this post is total bullshit.
  14. I'd play to the nine against any opponent. Even technically I am OK against Q or QT or no honour in LHO.
  15. Interesting argument. Have to say that my impression of competition requirements among most of the forum's denizens has been pretty close to tram tickets. I will quietly monitor comparable situations in the posts and see if I have deluded myself.
  16. Pass. Oh.. I think two trumps is useful support for partner's overcall. Speculation on a Q10 suit is not attractive. I don't make a lot of aasumptions about partner's maximum space consuming simple overcall NV at MPs.
  17. Suppose I need to get more verbose on my posts.
  18. I think the whole point of this thread was that now we can't bid 3♦ like we would have done over a 1N response since that understates the spades and the playing strength of this hand. But does it still understate spades when your next bid is 4S?
  19. Why can't I just bid 2C and give myself some space.
  20. Well I don't agree with 3S, or 4S. If we judge not to double, then bidding 3D looks very sensible to me. We have a very good hand and if we go for offence, let's give ourselves some chances.
  21. As we see 7C is -800 opposite a completely useless hand (in high card trick terms). Doesn't make it right of course. I'd agree the answer is the minimum you can get away with. But these are strange opponents who can't get past 5 when you bid 5C. Pity its too late to try the hand as an EW poll.
  22. Wondering about the logic. They will bid over 6C and they will get the ruff and discard. They may not bid over 7C and if they do, they will only get the ruff and discard against total idiots (not us of course). In terms of penalties, given partner's probably feeble hand, is 1147 so improbable, and -500?
  23. I prefer seven clubs. I expect partner to have six or seven clubs with a trick/half trick outside. I think it will be very easy for the oppos to bid a making slam, but not easy to bid a grand if it is making. Anyway this is a game, and we have an opportunity to test the opponents.
  24. I'd win the Jack and finesse spades. I need some luck in diamonds - more so if the defence can switch to clubs after winning a heart.
  25. I'd bid 5D and double 5S. Don't see a problem and not too bothered if partner thinks we are in a forcing auction.
