  1. 2♦, as long as partner promised 4+. With my regular 1♦show 4 if 4441 with singleton ♣, else 5+, so the even more obvious.
  2. 3♦ NV, 2♦ vul (I play weak 2♦ only when vulnerable).
  3. With no methods I just raise to 4♥.
  4. Jxx isn't much of a stopper vs our xx, if you're referring to the OP hand.
  5. ROFL. I suspected as much. B) Btw, in the Norwegian Swiss Pairs (I think) it went 2NT p p x, all pass. Declarer misguessed, since he thought the doubler had the missing cards and went -1 when a normal line would have been successful. After the hand he called for the director! No help, of course - we had a good laugh in the directing staff.
  6. Glad we got that cleared up. I'll go with the wisdom of the elder here.... which one's that? If you don't know why don't you just look up their profiles? (Actually, haven't looked up Mike's age, but I know he's older than me, probably about ten years older. Justin is half my age.)
  7. There already exist an online bridgeclub where you play like this.
  8. Huh, he already passed as dealer. Are you really sure of this?
  9. Glad we got that cleared up. I'll go with the wisdom of the elder here....
  10. All TD's know at least the rudimentary of playing bridge. Very few play on a high level. If they did, they'd much prefer playing over TDing. I can tell you this for sure, being both a skilled TD and a reasonably strong player. The TD's most important job is to keep the tournament going. That means making sure the boards are in place, keeping time, announcing new rounds and so forth. Secondary (s)he makes rulings. Most of these are purely technical (leads out of turn, revokes, insufficient bids etc.). These are very easy. Then there's the more difficult part, ruling in cases where yoy have to apply bridge judgement. There you should, if needed, ask players of the actual strenght for advice. And after that you've got the appeals committee. I'd advice you to stop smoking if that's a major problem. :P Yeah, that might be a problem. At least if you're playing at a low level or in a wide range field. Some/many of the more inexperienced players don't know zilch in this area.
  11. seems ZT penalties are only enforced against players that TDs don't like, or, ones that "should know better" Well, in this case anyone should know better..... by far.
  12. I agree with others that LHO most probably would come to the conclusion that 1♦ had to be natural. Thus I'd let the result stand. However, RHO's utterance is absoulutely not called for, improper and a breach of laws. I'd come quite heavily down on him/her with a PP like 20% of the top of a board (that's heavy in my environment, normally a first time PP would be a warning or 10% of a top).
  13. Well of course anyone would reraise knowing that partner expected a wjo. That is, unless this knowledge is UI to you. So if the TD really ruled that he was allowed to raise on the ground that anyone would raise after advancer raised the weak jump overcall, the TD was totally incompetent. The TD should have judged whether a strong jump overcaller would raise to game in this position. Your RHO needed a red king with his partner to be able to make on a trump finesse through opener, possibly the ♠T to be able to finesse out king third. He would also make if advancer held the ♠K and a heart doubleton. Thus, raising to game is absolutely possible with his hand, and a bid I expect the majority to make. But IMO a pass is a logical alternative, so I would not allow 4♠ here. I hope you appealed this ruling.
  14. From Shanghai I'll naturally be watching Norway when they're broadcast on BBO. I was planning to get out of bed just before 5 this morning to comment the Norway-Sweden match. But due to change in broadcast schedule I could sleep instead. I'd have preferred to watch our guys slaughter our swedish neighbours though. :D Most of the matches will be during our night or in my work time, so I'll not be watching very much during the round robin I'm afraid. Hopefully there will be reasons for watching more the 2nd week and let work be work....
  15. Add my voice to the (not unanimous) chorus of passers here.
  16. I agree with your analysis Frances.
  17. 1♠ for now, not a problem yet. If partner rebids 2♦ I play 2♥ as forcing, and will have to decide between 2♥ and 2♠. I'll give him 2♥.
  18. I went for the club line, without touching trumps. ♣AK pitching a diamond and low ♣ from dummy, east discarding ♠2. What now?
  19. Do you play that over 1NT too, Justin? I know Brogeland-Sælensminde on the Norwegian open team for Shanghai do.
  20. [hv=d=n&v=b&n=s5hk62djt76cakt95&s=saqthaj974dak32c2]133|200|Scoring: IMP I don't remeber the auction. It's a puzzle that I was declarer since we play T-Walsh. Anyway, I ended i 6♥ as south. The only non-pass from opponents was RHO's double of a ♠ cuebid by partner.[/hv] The lead was ♠4 (3rd/5th) to king and ace. What's the best plan? I had two in mind from the start.
  21. The ♠JT aren't falling I'm afraid. You can still make though. (I assume we all play a heart to the king after your start.) If hearts are 1-4, I see nothing better than playing RHO for 4432 and ♣KQ (cash diamonds, three spades, ruff a space, club exit). That's right Arend. RHO: J863 QT84 T92 KQ A lucky lead, since it's impossible to make 4♥ without it. The hand came up in a teams game 2.5 years ago. Opponents went -1 in 3NT at the other table. 3NT was made at 2 tables, but nobody else managed 10 tricks in hearts. Not so strange after the lucky lead and my view handling trumps.
  22. What I and mine do with my life is what give meaning and 'purpose'. I've never understood the need for any bigger meaning or purpose.
