  1. I'd not convert this on the first board of the match not knowing LHO's style. And 19 up and slightly above average in 2nd half I'd definitely not risk giving away a BIG score. So I'll bid 4♣ in both scenarios. Call me chicken if you like.
  2. The ♠JT aren't falling I'm afraid. You can still make though.
  3. Purpose? Life doesn't need any purpose for me to live a good and happy life.
  4. I'd guess they are. Surely this weakens the team - no insult to Hemant Lall intended, he's obviously a strong player, but not in the same league as Soloway.
  5. Skipping the first two bids, this is exactly how I'd bid it with my regular partner. (2NT=22-24). With pick-up partners I'd expect to copy your auction.
  6. A little question, here. If the auction continues: 1H-3S-4H-4S-X, do you pull the double or sit? If you pull, partner will hold KQ, AJxxx, xx, Axxx If you sit, partner will hold Kx, AKxxx, Axxx, xx Of course, this presupposes that a 4H bid expresses some values - if the 4H bid does not express values, you can do whatever you wish. I pull the double. Pard has extras and we are making 5♥. Sanity check - are there others that think we are in a forcing pass over 4♠? I don't. Forcing pass after I jumped to 4♥?? - NEVER.
  7. Forcing a TD call you mean? - it's insufficient...
  8. Where you come from....not worldwide. Where I come from D stands for queen and V doesn't exist.... :P
  9. QJ2 QJ2 KJ2 QJ32 it's 13 cards and 13 points... but... EW Others would open this Mat :( I think its a terrible hand. I agree it's a terrible hand. Still a clear opening for me though. :P Fluffy's too.
  10. [hv=d=w&v=b&n=sk5hj7532dj4ca653&s=saq92hk96dak3ct92]133|200|Scoring: IMP W N E S P P P 1NT P 2♦ P 2♥ P 3NT P 4♥[/hv] West leads the ♦5 (3rd/5th). Dummy's jack win, east following with the duce (std count). How do you plan the play. The next two tricks when I declared the hand is hidden below.
  11. I've got a fairly normal hand for my overcall. We won't make 5♣. I don't know if opps can make 4♠, but there's a reasoanble chance for us to set them. Easy pass for me.
  12. I assume you held 7 hearts, not diamonds for a 3♥ opening. It's fairly normal that 4♣ is a cuebid agreeing ♥'s. Some even play 4♣ as ace asking. I'd not expect anyone doing the latter without agreements. 4♣ as a cuebid without agreements wouldn't surprise me though. I know a lot who'd never expect that bid to be natural.
  13. I'd have claimed after trick 3, since no layout can beat me from there. (I'll draw the last trump.)
  14. I don't think it makes sense, I voted for 5♣ for the same reason, given how tired I am it can't be right. ROFL. I agree with 5♣ too, and it's early morning.....
  15. Me too. My hand is nice, but lacking aces. Heart values in partner's hand wasn't exactly what I'd like to hear. 3NT implies (slow) diamond values. If partner goes on I'll cooperate.
  16. Agree on playing a club at trick two. This will work most of the time. Anything else will probably set ut five tricks for the defence, and it won't be too hard for them to cash those.
  17. looks a lot like a backwash squeeze? only in the sense that trumps are involved. a backwash squeeze include an endplay of the squeezed hand after the squeeze. here's an example with hearts trump: dealer: ????? vul: ???? scoring: unknown ♠ at8542 ♥ ♦ ♣ &w=s3h9dj6cq7&e=skqj9hd8c8&s=s6hkdqtcat]399|300|South need five of the six remaining tricks.[/hv]South leads the ♠6 to the ace and ruffs a low spade in hand and west is backwash-squeezed. If west throws from one minor suit south leads two round of this suit. West might ruff, but is then endplayed. If west elect to underruff the spade, south plays two rounds of one minor, againd endplaying west.
  18. Without studying the odds in depth I'd ruff with the 9. Btw, where I play I'd ruff with the king knowing the suit to be 6-2, since 'all' lead lowest from 5 and 4th from 6 vs a suit contract.
  19. Clear pass IMO. Of course you might make slam, but more often you'll go down in five. The opening was OK with me.
  20. Playing a light opening style this is far from a minimum opener for me. Take away the ♥J or the ♦Q and I still open. Take away both and I'll most probably pass even if I actually open some balanced hand with less playing strength.
  21. If I misunderstood the problem and partner overcalled 3♥, I don't see what the problem is. I'd have raised 3♥ to game and will again bid 4♥ now, having been given a second chance.
